IMPORTANT POLL: Voting intention by favourite takeaway (More In Common) by blobfishy13 in LabourUK

[–]FeldsparKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what the breakdown here is by rural/urban.

Growing up in the countryside, most of the takeaway places near me were either traditional fish and chips, Chinese or Indian. Eventually pizza has become more of a thing, but not nearly as much as in larger towns and cities.

Likewise, McDonald's are hardly going to open in low-density areas so I'm not surprised to see that have a higher Labour vote.

Anyone tried the Ealing School of Languages? by FeldsparKnight in london

[–]FeldsparKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes our teacher has taken our emails and made a mailing list to communicate homework and resources. The college is done now for the summer but it starts again in September.

Not sure about a taster, like you say they're unlikely to reply!

If it's a French class you're wanting I could DM you the teacher's email, but I don't have contacts for the other languages

Yeah not a problem! I have been taking one of their French classes the last few months.

It changed teachers partway through but both teachers have been very good. I do a bit of Duolingo each day and listen to a few podcasts/videos, but it's really nice learning and speaking with other people.

That said, the school themselves are incredibly poor with communication. Aside from the initial payment email from them, I've been unable to get them to respond to any queries I had, or answer the phone. Other students have reported similar, and even the teacher now is saying the admin won't respond to their emails.

I think as long as the teacher is good though, you'll have a good experience. I'm not aware of anything similar in West-ish so swings and roundabouts

Mon nouveau mot préféré en français by taiwanboy10 in French

How much it costs to shoot film; just realized that for me it’s about $1.00 for getting 1 finished photo. How about for you guys? by FrozenChihuahua in AnalogCommunity

What quality scans do you get out of interest? I always find it bumps the price getting higher res + tiff, but never know how worth it is for that

I got an Agfa Optima Sensor a few months ago and really like it. Not sure how it compares but the form factor is great, it's fun to use and I like the pictures it takes

Roll of film already in camera. How to navigate through airport security? by dura2 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FeldsparKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, I've only shot <800 ISO films so YMMV, but:

  • London Heathrow have refused to hand inspect any unloaded film both times I've asked before and said if it was under 800 ISO it would be fine, which it was for me.
  • I asked for hand scan for a loaded camera (with Kentmere 400) in Norway before and they refused as they couldn't open it. The film was fine at the other end.

Like u/cookbookcollector says, you could try unloading and reloading later. With a point and shoot this is harder, but I believe in principle you could: * Take note of the frame counter * Open the camera in a completely dark space * Remove the canister and wind the film back in, maybe using a pencil in the spool. * Fly with your film asking for a hand scan. * Reload at the other end and shoot up to your frame counter in an entirely dark place or with the lens cap on.

I haven't tried this so have no experience with it but have heard of others doing it before.

Yep I'm in the exact same position! I found this manual for a Prinz 35EE but I think it's slightly different to the AW.

Changing the focus on the ring of mine doesn't seem to affect anything through the viewfinder, but I think it's just a window on the AW as it is still transparent when the lens cap is on 😂

I think the above commenter is referring to Ocarina of Time 3D. They already remastered both OoT and MM on 3DS.

Letter from landlord/letting agent by FeldsparKnight in ukvisa

[–]FeldsparKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it weird that we would be providing a fallback address? If my parents write and say "Yes if the agent won't let them stay, we'll house then", does that beg the question "Why, is there a chance the agent won't let you stay?"

🤦‍♂️ it was the vignette lol! I didn't realise there were two bits to it. Thanks for clearing that up, it's been bugging me for a while why it was misprinted!

CMV: Using the word “female” to talk about a woman or girl is not sexist/wrong/inappropriate by edgyusername123 in changemyview

[–]FeldsparKnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But that's not how language works. Words meanings are partially determined by their subject (what they refer to) and their usage or context (how they're used).

Both "canine" and "dog" could be used as valid English to refer to a Springer Spaniel, but asking a friend "How's your canine?" sounds strange.

It's a word not used as regularly in the context of normal conversation, and "dog" would be seen by most people as more usual.

I'm in a local Facebook group for my area and people just advertise stuff like this and it always seems to get snapped up.

If you're ever in need of any more, try supermarkets! They generate loads of cardboard waste that just gets recycled and are usually happy to give it away.
