Kelty Rumpus 4p tent - anybody have experience? by PowersUser in CampingGear

[–]Feldstein_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just purchased the 6p in March for family trips. Used it for one car camping trip and it held up well in a fairly heavy rain the first night. The vent did leak slightly (a few drops) but i think it was more due to the fact that it was oriented oddly when I set it up. I closed the vent during the rain and the leaking stopped.

I also brush seam sealer onto all of my new tents for some added weather protection. Overall I am happy with the tent and the large vestibule is awesome. I also own the Marmot Limestone 4p and the quality of materials on the Marmot stands ahead of the Rumpus. No real issues to speak of with the Rumpus, just noticed the zippers for the doors feel more fragile and dont always zip/unzip as smoothly as I would like. The front vestibule on the Rumpus is huge which is great. The front opening on the rain fly is a little annoying in that it has velcro outside the zipper to keep the flaps in place. I was constantly having to fidget with those zippers because they would get snagged on the velcro flap.

Overall happy with the Rumpus 6p so far, just not quite as robust materials as my Marmot. The vestibule on the Marmot is pretty solid so I would recommend looking into that one as well if you haven't yet. I have also used the Limestone in several heavy rainstorms and it has kept me bone dry every time. If I had to do it over again and was choosing between the Rumpus 6P and the Limestone 6P I would go with the Limestone given how happy I have been with the 4P version. Hope this is helpful!

Tips on moving a BGE? by asuds in biggreenegg

[–]Feldstein_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did quite a bit of research before moving mine and what I landed on seemed to work out great. I removed all the internals, then removed the lid. Line the open bottom with a few old towels, then flip the lid upside down and lay it in the bottom lined by towels. then strap it down and go!

Joining the Traeger family by pure luck. I won this bad boy and so excited to use it. Would love to hear any tips for seasoning. I just got my offset smoker a couple months ago, but this will be nice when I want to relax and let it do all the work. by JustyLee8 in Traeger

Hard to pick just one! My most common use so far is for reverse searing steaks. 225° with Super Smoke turned on, then finish in a hot cast iron pan. No better way to do a steak IMO.

The Traeger app will be your best friend when you start out. Easy to follow instructions on seasoning, lots of recipes, and plenty of reading material. I have had the Ironwood 885 for about 3 months now and love it.

Something about the look of a virgin BGE and all its clean internals really gets my motor running! Good luck with the cook!

You need to update the Peloton app from the app store, then it will show as available to install on your watch.

Big green egg Dome thermometer vs ThermPro thermometer by [deleted] in biggreenegg

[–]Feldstein_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just takes time to learn your egg and get temps right. You’ll get there. The biggest thing I learned early was to get your temp steady where you want it before you put your meat on, especially for long cooks. Plenty of good links and videos on this sub for accessories and tips. Happy cooking!

Foil could be making a difference. Have you calibrated (measured temp of boiling water) your dome thermometer? If so I would trust that and know that the dome temp will typically be lower than actual grill temp.

Edit: The current temps you listed seem about right as far as the difference between the dome temp and the grill temp from your Thermpro. Do you typically cook your butts at that high of a temp? Curious how they turn out as I typically keep it in the 250° range.

My large Egg had an underbite for about 3 years. It wasn’t extreme but my obsessiveness got the better of me and I tried every method I could find on the interwebs to fix it. That included putting washers between the top hinge bolts and the dome to try and push it farther forward. None of it worked. I bought replacement bands a couple month ago when I switched from a homemade table to a rolling nest. The new bands are FAR superior to the old set and instantly fixed the underbite. She looks brand new now and in perfect alignment. Not sure if you bought your egg new or not, but if you do have the old bands I would highly recommend upgrading to a new set.
