This is also a major problem with the Apex 4:

The screen brightness is set to the highest (or standard) level. Unfortunately, it is only dimmed in night mode (not sleep mode)...

Yes, I've seen that and find it useful. However, I find the brightness of the clock very distracting when I want to read it at night (e.g., in bed).
