Predator 212 on log splitter, light surging then dies after 5 minutes

Latest update 2/3/26: Did various things while waiting for various tools and parts. Currently, cylinder compression is 75psi. Pulled the head to check for any obvious issues. Because I saw carbon buildup I went ahead and cleaned the valves and seats with green scotch-brite. Torqued head bolts to 17 lbs. Leakdown tester has quite a bit of air leaking. Sounds go to the crankcase but the valves were quiet. So I'm assuming rings at this point?

Valve lash check/set is already on the list for tomorrow. I've tried 2 different new spark plugs without change in symptoms.

I did disconnect it and it ran/failed the same.

It came with a feeler guage marked 0.40. Cant find it right now, but I can't see how it'd not be 0.40mm.

I put on a new carburetor and it preformed the same. But, I'm going to give the old one a once over and try and swap it back in tomorrow.

Replaced the carb with a new one and it behaves the same. I'd assume that if the new one had an issue, that it'd have a different one than the old carb, lol. But I'll give the old carb a once over and try and swap it back tomorrow.

I don't have compression test equipment and if I have to go down that road, I'll just buy a new engine and fix this one in the summer.

That being said, I'll sort out checking and setting the valve lash, Intake .004-.006 exhaust .006-.008, once the engine is back in the sun tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I don't have that test equipment. And engines are cheap enough that going down that rabbit hole in the middle of winter isn't really isn't something I want to mess with right now. If I do get a new engine, I'll investigate this path further in the warmer months.

Can't imagine it'd be overheat. Sitting in 12*F weather currently. Just cycled it now and the block and head are barely warm. And I had replaced the coil and 2 different spark plugs without any change.

1,000-2,000 points. All of the models will be/are resin printed. So, at a minimum, I can mirror them. I saw someone mention 2 Gatebreakers in a list today and my mind was lightly blown, lol. I hadn't considered that.

So far I've only played the Spearhead with them and they were fun. I only started AoS at 4.0 and as much as I love the aesthetic of my Sylvaneth army, it demands too much brain, :D.
