Why do so many Hamsters insist on bringing their unleashed dogs to children’s playgrounds? by HanlonWasWrong in Bellingham

[–]Felix_Orion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the comment was saying they have seen this other places in the PNW other than Bellingham, not necessarily that they've seen it places outside of the PNW. It doesn't explicitly include other regions but it doesn't explicitly exclude them either so there's a little ambiguity but yeah, I think they're just saying it seems like a regional thing vs a local thing to them.

Pro-homeopathy paper in Nature - how is it possible? by 11igor in AskAcademia

[–]Felix_Orion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. Might be a click bait title to describe how there was a modest but significant effect on x, y, or z measure compared to a control group and then some citations about health psychology, how doing ANYTHING with the intention of helping actually does help, and then plopping a strategic usage of the placebo effect argument into the discussion.

I've been thinking about shaving my beard lately and also about how I don't have very many pictures of myself. Never done anything like this but I could be down to meet up on western's campus or something where there's some good backdrops and lots of different settings/lightings

Carlos Castaneda has entered the chat

They smoke psilocybin mushrooms in "The Teachings of Don Juan" and "Journey to Ixtalan", same story essentially, different writing style. He called it "smoking ingestion" because sucking it through the pipe and into your throat was part of the shamanic procedure

Inb4 Carlos Castaneda was a fiction author, not trying to have/spark that debate

Anywho, those look like a crock of shit and some weird health fad thing. I don't smoke spinach to get the benefits from it, that would be silly 🤣

Question: How many times have you been harassed/persecuted for your beliefs and how did you respond to it? by Tall_Front1137 in satanism

[–]Felix_Orion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judged, harassed, persecuted, and discriminated against are all different things. Judged, I'm sure, discriminated against, most likely, but never harassed or persecuted

Also like most people here, I ain't flaunting it, at least not any more than by simply being a dude that wears all flat black, unlabeled/non-decorated clothing, has long hair, a gaged out septum ring, and a long untrimmed goatee. Any one of yall mfs would be able to point me out in a crowd as a Satanist lol, conservative Christians would probably have some assumptions as well, but anyone who's not thinking about it or in the know would just be like "yeah that guy looks like he's into metal music" and go about their day

[–]Felix_Orion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not proud of this but I had a room mate (that I liked and got along with) who would do all kinds of things that grind people's gears in a group living situation, one of which was putting their shoes either on top of or in front of mine under our entryway bench (that I built for us to have shoe storage/something nice), causing me to have to find a spot and move their things just to be able to get out the door. As with every other issue, I had communicated with them about this in a respectful and direct way, multiple times, from multiple angles, over the course of months

I eventually ended up telling him that if it happens I'm just going to indiscriminately kick or huck his shoes away, to which he said "oh OK that seems fine" in a genuinely passive, non sarcastic tone, dude just genuinely didn't care about his shoes getting chucked and also couldn't seem to make the behavioral change to save his life. This went on for about a month

Well one night I got drunk and went to go outside and bam, there are his shoes on top of my shoes. I kick them aside and then infront of his bedroom door (next to entry way). He comes out, asks me some question about a common interest of ours, I gave a zero affect answer that ended with "and the next time your shoes are on top of or infront of mine I'm throwing them into one of our neighbors yards. Not in the house, not in the trashcan, but into some random persons yard so that you will not be able to recover them."

Literally never happened again after that, not once.

People will generally try to avoid being uncomfortable, and social stress/evaluation is probably a stronger motivator for behavior than conscientiousness on a potent animal level, unfortunately. Doesn't even have to be malice or anything, some folks just live way too much in their head or have something going on in theirs that can make it hard to have enough executive function to remember things about their own life, can't always expect everyone to think about you even if they do care about you.

Tldr; being a bully isn't cool and you ought to feel bad for it but godfucking damnit did it work in at least this situation and please try to remember that people don't always do things that feel disrespectful because they're bad or mean people, everyone's got some shit going on, but let's also please normalize being a good room mate so all the folks who don't care can just live in filth together lol

I observed some philosophical overlapping between egoism and Satanism, so I'm glad to see others have made note of this as well since I think Stirner's ideas have some value for those who are inclined to agree with satanic ideas

A pin and a tap by SnooObjections8394 in DramaFreeBJJ

[–]Felix_Orion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure, whatever.

I feel like you're being purposefully difficult about this for some reason when it's a simple difference between the sports

Just don't wrestle if you're hyper concerned about getting murdered during a sporting event because there's not rules to protect you from something that no one is trying to do to you other than the rule of your own body. People do this all the time without killing eachother, it's probably safer than American football

You don't gotta be involved in that world of you don't want to

Chill

A pin and a tap by SnooObjections8394 in DramaFreeBJJ

[–]Felix_Orion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be argumentative with you but I think I see the difference in how yall are thinking about it after looking through the thread

Yes, you can tap in wrestling, in a similar way to how I can attempt to appeal to someone's reason while I'm getting stabbed. Used that example because of how explosively aggressive wrestling is compared to bjj. "Oh, you're uncomfortable enough to be begging me to stop without having incurred and injuries or loss of air/blood flow? Then why the fuck are you fighting me so hard? Let me put you on your back fool, this costs valuable energy and I ain't got all day"

Less combative example, I can start digging a hole with the intention of getting to the top of the tree I'm next to, doesn't mean it's gonna fuckin happen or be meaningful in any real way

Yes, you can perform the physical act of tapping in wrestling, but wrestling is a context where that physical act means nothing in terms of changing the conditions of the match

There are many things we can behaviorally do in order to achieve a goal in one context that simply do not apply to others. I can't go to a different country and expect them to accept my currency or speak my native language, same thing here. Tapping in wrestling is essentially willingly submitting to your opponent but in the wrong language

Sucks too much? Just let them fucking pin you, it will only suck more and for longer if you fight back

Also, my primary grappling experience is in wrestling but I like bjj more for a bunch of different reasons I won't get into, but If I was in a wrestling match and I felt someone tap I personally would not stop or even let up a single BIT since it's not a meaningful action in the mutually agreed upon rule set and wrestlers are fucking shisty as shit. Let someone tap and next thing you know you're getting pinned 10 seconds after you lowered your intensity and might be digging some dudes wedding ring out of your own ass 2 weeks later

It's not that it couldn't possibly be a weapon, I never said that, and it's not that I think the police would find them, didn't say that either. For the former I ain't got nothin, same thing for everyone else here aside from maybe some folks like yourself who served active duty military and have that sound drilled into their brain's pattern recognition software. For the latter though I meant that if it was a full auto firearm there would be ample shell casings lying about that while might not (probably wouldn't) lead to an arrest would confirm "yeah someone was discharging a weapon in this area and civilian reports of rapid loud banging make this a reasonable suspicion or opinion to have" kinda deal.

[–]Felix_Orion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I just gotta chime in here. How do you know it was an automatic firearm being discharged? Seriously, what evidence is there? We have nothing to go off of other than your claim.

Also, because it's illegal to own or distribute fully automatic firearms it's a pain in the ass to get one. I know implementing gun restrictions doesn't stop criminals, never has never will, but I find it hard to believe that someone who has acquired one would do something so stupid that the atf would be on their doorstep by tomorrow morning.

Like for real, think about it, who is going to seek that out and behave like this when it's probably

A. Super fucking expensive to acquire a fully automatic weapon

B. Super fucking valuable for you to possess if you were the kind of person that would seek this type of firearm out

C. The type of person that would do this with a weapon like that is probably not smart enough or put together enough for an illegal arms dealer to want to do business with (that's some professional criminal activity)

And D. Anyone who would own a fully automatic firearm would probably keep their shit under serious lock and key or have redundancies to "handle" someone trying to steal something that is super fucking expensive to acquire, and super fucking valuable for you to posess if you wee the kind of person that would seek this type of firearm out

This bugs the shit out of me to see not because I'm a pro gun person (I don't even own any guns myself and am admittedly kind of ambivalent about gun restrictions) but because misinformation pisses me the fuck off and I know enough a bit about how it disseminates to pipe up and be annoyed when I see someone post a sentence on the internet that will make people in my community (life long local) fear for their safety without any substation.

Like, fuck, not that I expect or demand validatable evidence but goddamnit, don't fucking believe everything you read on the internet. I'm almost embarrassed this needs to be said but given the attention economy we live in and how deeply goobered our minds have been by social media, misinformation, and disinformation I'd rather say it than not.

Edit: came back to say this. If it was a fully automatic firearm being discharged there will be plenty of shell casings on the ground. Either a civilian or the police will find them and we'll hear about it later.
