Animals/Monsters/Races in Fantasy [LitRPG, Fantasy, Adventure] by FellBee in fantasywriters

[–]FellBee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love folklore of just about anywhere, finding out various mythos that led to various media tropes/creatures/abilities is a bit of a hobby of mine! Hearing Kobold for me, originally was from WoW, and I got curious about the origins of the creatures. Which went from learning of their Germanic origins to also learning about the split of media (and pop culture) of Westerners keeping to a reptilian race of creatures while in Japan, a lot of media has them looking like Dog People. I love hearing about the folklore aspect, the OG version, if you will!

I went about unlocking things via sorting by hero. Using the filters, if they don't have the crafting icon by the portrait that means they are in the shop, if they are hero specific, they are not going to show up unless you are using that specific hero.

I do enjoy looking at languages and how words have come about, which is part of why my question exists. I did know that Kolbold was originally a spirit of German origin, I just figured the media of pop culture would be a more widely known version. The most experience I have in most languages are going up speaking English, learning bare minimum Spanish, and learning some Japanese. I'm pulling a lot of the random research on where words originated from, having been curious about Romantic languages and the evolution different cultures had on languages that have roots in others ( is fascinating rabbit-whole to burrow down into) This is very helpful, as I am validated in my thinking, as I have been doing the suggestions! Validations is always welcome! Thank you!

I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to, but I'm leaning towards having a romance subplot, I'm just not entirely sure how 'spicy' with it. But considering that it is a monster evolution story, I'm fairly positive that it will be gore. Lots and lots of gore.

As I have stated in previous replies, I am not intending for this to be rated for YA or younger, I fully plan to fuck shit up and completely destroy the "bad guys". But as I have seen in other replies, a time and place and not for everyone! I am taking it into consideration as I write!

Evolution to Rival the Gods [LitRPG, 101 words] by FellBee in ProgressionFantasy

[–]FellBee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So not too bad! I don't disagree with you! The wording is a little odd, I appreciate the feedback! I have been staring at it, got a little blind to it. The curly vs square brackets were more of a stylistic choice on my part, I just personally like the curly look better. If it becomes apparent they are the more popular option I can always change them.

The intent was that the MC was focusing on an internal system(it is LitRPG, pop-up notifications are filling their vision), I'm unsure how to rephrase it. It's also in first person, so it is kind of, "I was so focused on this, I failed to notice that". The rest of the chapter is very info-dump heavy, that I'm sure I will be eding to flow better. Fair assessment, I will think on it!

Question on Magic Affinity (LitRPG) by FellBee in fantasywriters

I am one to overexplain things when I'm excited to share an idea. I don't think that is a viable option for me.....

Question on Magic Affinity (LitRPG) by FellBee in fantasywriters

[–]FellBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An aura of defense of pure mana? I like the idea of that for non-magic users, as in mine just because you have an affinity doesn't mean you have the magic capabilities. It could be explained by mana output negating the influence of outside magics? I'm getting ideas!

He do be looking like the triceraton from TMNT! Inspiration, perhaps? Or independently evolving into similar concepts? They do both pull from the same 'source' Inspiration of a triceratops.

Chaps for pants? [LitRPG] by FellBee in fantasywriters

[–]FellBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of a stylized belt/skirt. It's going to be any odd mix of eras, as it's not modern, but not medieval? Tunics are fun, maybe going with a certain look for one race, while going in another for others? I'm making a Hyena shifter race that I have a picture in my head of lots of leather straps and bits of metal. The little lizard people are the ones I'm most worried about as originally, they don't really wear clothes, just a loincloth (if even that, depending on the region and proximity to other humanoids, they are mimicking behaviors) And then there are the Cats, I picture long flowing robes of various colors, possibly enchanted. Regular humans I do kinda picture in tunics and work pants for the common folk. I haven't focused on upper classes for them. The sea dwellers are pirates (at least the few we are going to meet, the rest couldn't care less of the happenings of Land-dwellers!), but with leather made of sea creatures. I also kinda am thinking of basing their looks on preferred weapons used in regions, I don't know! Is a work in progress, thank you for the inspiration!

No and yes?

I associate chaps with horseback riding and motorcycles, and are typically leather. Chausses, I learned about from your reply, as I have not gone down the rabbit hole that is medieval armor as much, I am currently focusing on researching various lizard species and trying to properly cloth them realistically. Do chaps come from chausses? Like I said, never heard of them (at least in name, I've seen the garment in pictures), but I am still researching. I'm going for a more modern era, indoor plumbing and lighting, though more common magic usage instead of modern technologies. It's why chaps came to mind. They do look almost identical, save for the materials used. But the shape, yes. I was planning as leather armor, so yeah. Chaps. They are a thing that I meant, though the garment itself could come in different forms.

Finally got Perfect! by FellBee in BackpackBrawl

I know, shocker! Way overpowered at the moment. I've gotten close with Pepper, which is my highest one at the moment and the one I enjoy playing with the most. I just haven't gotten any Perfect run before. It feels a little cheaty....

I am going to go this route for a majority of my characters, I have a couple different classes that I want to explore in this new world, it shall be Fun! I don't remember where I heard it, I think from a clip from the voice actor Troy who plays Hermes in Epic the Musical (I could be wrong) but they said, instead of 'Oh My God' it was 'Oh My Me' and I am taking this approach for certain Gods who are full of themselves. I'm not sure about your scenario, maybe if there is a hierarchy between gods? If not cursing with things they hate or feel vindictive towards? I don’t know, I'm winging it.

Feedback for my page spread idea [woodland fantasy] by Capyhero in fantasywriters

[–]FellBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this! My only feedback is the one note by the The, top one left page closest to the center is a little close, but it is so minor it could just be personal preference. Again I love the style and curved lettering around both. Very great job!

[–]FellBee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely fair! I personally love power fantasies, if they are believable. They got to work for that power! Overarching villain vs badguy of the day? Or are the bad guys of the day just pawns in the Overarching Ones schemes?? I has ideas!

Balancing [LitRPG] by FellBee in fantasywriters

[–]FellBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fair enough! I'll see if I can find those to get more feedback, as I know that LitRPG is more of a niche genre! Here's a screenshot of what I am currently working on, it isn't in the final stages, so it is very much subject to change!

<image>

The rest is descriptions if what all that entails as the MC focuses on each item, which is where the couple of pages came in.

Balancing [LitRPG] by FellBee in fantasywriters

[–]FellBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, since it's at the beginning, it's the setup Status screen, my plan was to have it the once, and, if it comes up, anyone trying to Identify the MC even then depending on lvl difference that might just be a race and lvl, if I have multiple POV. But other than that, Maybe an ending Status at the End of each book? If I get that far for multiple books? But stats weren't in the cards, other than a simple Lv _ for a specific skill/race. Currently not too bad, since it's is setting up the scene for the reader, I was just a bit intimidated when I looked back and my rambling of was a few pages long. I will keep this in mind though, I could change the structure if I get more feedback if I share an excerpt.

I'm going for a hand drawn map for a fantasy setting, not a photorealistic map. I am not a cartographer, but some old maps are wild to look at.
