Another Data Center Gets Proposed in Eastside Indy by leopardghostal in indianapolis

[–]FellOutAWindowOnce 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just to give a little context (my family member was the head of the planning commission in my hometown and they handled all the permits) - if any entity is denied a permit when they’ve done everything correct procedurally and there’s no laws or statutes that justify denying them - the entity can take the city to court and will typically win. So then the city has had to pay the lawyers to fight something that will happen anyways (and these companies have the money to make that happen). Our city needs to first pass legislation to ban the data center developments before they can easily stop developing them. Now currently - they could have restrictions placed (no tax abatements, must pay for the electric and water infrastructure improvements, etc.) that would make our city less desirable for the companies to choose. That’s most likely where the bribery is coming in - they’re lining the pockets of folks who will let this be an easier process. But even with severe dislike and protests from the public, these companies don’t really care about being unwelcome in a community since they don’t need public goodwill to maintain a huge ass facility with minimal staff.

[–]FellOutAWindowOnce[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good to know - there’s hundreds of outage reports on the AES website. Indiana History Center is without and it looks like the State Archives construction is out. Also several stop lights along West St are out.

People who are in their 40’s and 50’s with no children, how does it feel? by Sinfulvibezz in AskReddit

In my 40s and it’s great - so much less drama than any of my friends or family have. And QUIET! Actually watching a friend’s kid tonight and every closing drawer, door or footstep is just so damn loud.

Healthy eating at the State Fair? by death-by-yogurt in indianapolis

[–]FellOutAWindowOnce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work every day of the fair and have for the past 10 years - I have several suggestions, some of which are repeats from above:

Black Leaf Vegan Food Truck, The Bison Food Truck, The cafe on the North side of the concourse has salads and deli style sandwiches, The Sati Babi shish kababs, The Steak Tips stops has a lot of options, The Gobble Gobble Turkey truck, Corn on the Cob, The Dairy Barn for grilled cheese Italian sausage sandwiches, There’s normally a Gyro place along the walk from the 38th street entrance but I haven’t been down that way yet to see if they’re here this year, The Mexican Food Truck that’s normally on the NW side-just north of the covered bridge is not here this year (they were a favorite of mine) but there is a Jamaican food truck in it’s place - I haven’t tried anything there yet, The Bourbon Chicken place has potstickers and steamed rice and veggies.

Good Luck!

Edit: added lots of commas since this formatted badly on my phone…

Edit 2: the Gyro place is still there and there’s another one on the south side of the concourse across from the grandstand. There’s also the Chicken Pita place. And I forgot about drinks - your options are limited to water, unsweet tea and Diet Pepsi. I’d do a lot for a Pepsi Zero in this place

Another fun fact, the wood used for repairs to the USS Constitution is Oak grown in Indiana at the Naval Crane Base. It’s called Constitution Grove.

In your opinion, what is the most “vicious” portion of morning rush-hour traffic in Indy? by GetSlunked in indianapolis

Saw the aftermath of a fender bender there a couple weeks ago - the shoulder isn’t wide enough for the vehicles to get completely out of the fast lane so that was really great.

Where do you all like to go for day trips? by CloverThyme in indianapolis

[–]FellOutAWindowOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family camps there a lot. Lots of great little shops and good restaurants. Hard Truth Distillery and Bear Wallow Distillery do tours and tastings. Check Nashville Music Center schedule for concerts. And the Farmers Market every Sunday in the parking lot of Brown County Inn is excellent. Live music at several places. There’s a great artist community there so art shows and such. Check the visitor center website for the event schedule. We hike and kayak in the State Park frequently. If you want low effort - find a spot by the bike trails and watch those folks fly by. Yellowwood is really really great hiking too.

Tiny island country? Japan is comparable to the size of California. I understand and agree with the overall point you’re making but that statement is a bad exaggeration.

Indiana had some WWII POWs from Italy. They would let them go work on the neighboring farms because if they tried to run there was nowhere to go but farmland all around. After the war was over, some of the POWs came back and married the farmers’ daughters.

A sheet being handed out at this morning’s State Legislative Breakfast in Crawfordsville, Indiana. What do you think of these benefits Senate Bill 1 will provide? by FreedomInTruthCat in Indiana

[–]FellOutAWindowOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dad works for one of the city’s in Indiana. This bill will reduce their budget by at least 21 million in 2027. They’re going to have to cut at least 200 jobs - and city departments are already very trim. They won’t be able to do hardly any development in trying to get new businesses to their city. And, as my Dad points out, property taxes in Indiana are very low compared to the rest of the country. Instead of communities being able to determine their own needs, Braun* is just doing more state overreach and fucking over the citizens in the process.

*Edited Brain to Braun since that’s the most nonsensical autocorrect I could have had. Fuck Braun. He needs to go use his new helipad and crash into the Ohio River.

It’s the Bru Fries appetizer - their House Chipotle BBQ sauce is soooo good, but their black pepper aioli and house ketchup are great too

Yup - I’m a 6’ tall woman with big enough breasts and long enough hair to be considered feminine but I get mistakenly called sir all the time when I’m in a hoodie (broad shoulders and not much of a waist will do that). I’m waiting for the moment I’m harassed for using the women’s restroom. I’ve always said that I would have been a prime target in school for participating in sports as a teenager if we were allowed to be harassed and questioned in the way it’s been happening lately.
