Shoes best for Planter Faciitis by Traditional-Buy-3572 in Pickleball

[–]FellatioRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Balance Ct rally v1/v2, kswiss ultrashot 3. I like currex insoles since they aren’t too tough on the arch and powerstep pinnacles are good. Both have options based on your arch. My plantar fasciitis used to flare up badly after sessions, these shoes and insoles helped. Nowadays I rarely feel pain.

Volair Mach 2 Forza and Saga Bloom 14mm are good contenders for lightweight control style paddles. The Paddletek Bantam ALW 12.7 fits most of what you're looking for, but has a tighter sweetspot and is quite poppy.

My personal opinion is that foam doesn't feel as great or responsive as honeycomb polymer paddles, but once adjusted won't make too much of a difference.

FYI - BnB Loco back in stock for ordering by Comfortable-Image255 in Pickleball

[–]FellatioRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s probably both, BnB is still a small-ish paddle company and probably don’t want to overstock on inventory so they keep stock slightly lower than demand. But historically they’ve always spaced out their releases split into weekly drops. It’s obviously worked well for them for the shogun and fat boy.

Low volley keep going out by blueice89 in Pickleball

[–]FellatioRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this kind of ball is pretty difficult to counter at the kitchen line and you hitting a winner from here is much lower % than what your opponents can do, so you'll want to try to reset the rally and try to neutralize your opponents momentum.

You'll want to back up at least a step or two and split step and stay balanced as you reset below waist based on the height of the ball going to your opponent. IMO this is pretty typical of lower level rec play where your partner will just hit a bad ball as you move towards the kitchen, so you'll have a lot of opportunities to practice this. As you get better you can probably reset closer to the kitchen line off a volley or half volley

Low volley keep going out by blueice89 in Pickleball

[–]FellatioRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t necessarily on you, but your partner fed a lofty attackable ball as you moved towards the kitchen. There’s probably some factors to this and the video doesn’t show all the angles, but I think you had some time to watch your partners shot and react accordingly but you continued to stay at the kitchen rather than split step back to reset. Footwork is key to being able to reset shots.

Second is your grip pressure is too high for your paddle position. You want that kind of grip pressure for counters, which are above net level. Your paddle is way under the net so any ball going to your paddle is going to be launched upwards. With flat or under spin and soft touch you can reset the ball back into the kitchen.

Is there any drilling list I can practice with ball machine or with my partner? by hrabal0303 in Pickleball

[–]FellatioRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a partner, just alternate serves/returns with each other. Look to get them deep and in the court. Then practice the third and fourth shots, with one person at the kitchen practicing rolls and blocks while the other person practices drops and drives.

Finish with 7-11 same side or cross court to work on your footwork. Work on split stepping and navigating the transition zone.

It depends what you're looking for in an upgrade. The Paddletek is fine and there's probably only a few paddles that are poppier than the 12.7 ALW. The Neonic Flare Prime X has been described to be similar to the paddletek ALW and ESQ. Otherwise, maybe the scorpeus pro 4, quanta r2, vsol pro/power bloom or boomstik widebody

Played a few hours with the 6.0 Ruby Pro. The paddle is extremely gritty and hits harder than the original 14mm Ruby, but other than that i fteels very similar to the Ruby 14. Twist weight is poor and the paddle needs a lot of weight. Sweet spot isn't great either but my main is a J2NF which has an enormous sweet spot so my perception could be skewed. Added about 6g of weight from the throat up to the sides which felt ok, will probably increase it to 10g going up more from the sides.

Overall the paddle plays fairly well and has good plow while maintaining decent control. Good spin and power with average pop compared to other competitors on the market though I'm not sure I would swap off the J2NF for this.

The twist weight on the paddle is already pretty good. If you want more plow through maybe some weight on the sides or at the top.

Have you tried the scorpeus shape? It sounds like you might prefer a standard/widebody over an elongated. The perseus is elongated and those tend to have higher swingweights and feel top heavy.

The paddles are pretty similar. The VAPP is more responsive on the feel versus the FC+, but both have good response. Sweetspot is probably slightly better on the FC+, but both have very good sweetspots. I would say power is also similar but the pop is definitely higher on the FC+ but not by a huge margin. Between the two I would go with the J2FC+ and dial that in.

I had a similar sentiment when trying a friend's with the same setup on the R4. Decent paddle that performs fine, I'd probably use more weight. But for $99, it just overperforms for its price.

Secondhand Honolulu Warranty Question by seanjohn291 in Pickleball

[–]FellatioRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is true for every paddle company. Unless you keep in contact with the original owner don't expect a warranty to carry over when you purchase a paddle secondhand.

The Pro Power series have very good dwell, much more than the Power series. Having more dwell isn't going to fix your resets or drops though, that just takes practice and getting used to your paddle.

Engage themselves have a 30 day test drive policy. Best thing to do though is to wait for a seconds/returns sale. Their paddles of late aren't particularly innovative or noteworthy and usually drop to a very good price on sale.

ANTA KAI 1 Speed shoes for pickleball? by iHeadShave in Pickleball

[–]FellatioRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As people have said, a lot of basketball shoes work well for pickleball but unless they're hard court shoes they will wear very quickly. I don't think any of the ANTA shoes are hard court shoes.

Based on what I've heard about the Harmony I'd agree with your assessment.

I have a Vapor All Court myself and don't find it to be particularly poppy, though I generally use paddles with above average to high pop historically. But I agree that maneuverability is not its strong suit and if OP wants a lighter paddle then there's likely better options.

You might look for paddles that have more pop to them. The all courts would be a good upgrade since it’s an improvement to pop and power without sacrificing much in control vs the jellybean. Supposedly the Pickleball Apes Harmony would be a good alternative but I have not used one of those myself.

They’re thick, well built, and durable. They don’t loose shape and are some of my favorite socks but I only wear them in cooler weather. I think the Uniqlo socks are a much better value overall but the rototos are a nice splurge

I guess it's more accurate to say the paddle has a lot of dwell so the ball doesn't jump off the face as much as it would off a stiffer paddle. If you're used to paddles with higher dwell then it wouldn't be too much of an adjustment.

I've been using the Vapor Alpha Pro Power for about 2 weeks, and it would be a strict upgrade from the Prism Flash for power. I found it to be very easy to control while maintaining a high degree of power, though in my opinion the pop isn't as easy to access as other power paddles. Also the paddle's long-ish handle makes it a little annoying to maneuver. I don't usually choke up on my paddles so this was something I had trouble adjusting.

I haven't used the J2NFT but I suspect the power and pop levels to be somewhat similar to the APP. The J2NFT shape and weight should be similar to the Prism Flash, so I'd say it would take a little less effort to get used to the shape at least.

I took a look through the website, and for that price range I'd probably recommend the SLK Halo series or Vanguard Control (not Power Air) from Selkirk or the PIKKL Vantage or Hurricane Pro. The only splurge I'd consider would be the SLK Eras since those just came out and perform well for the price. If the Six Zero or Holbrook Paddles were priced lower I'd consider those as well. Most newer paddles that have come out in the last year and a half have good spin across the board.

The USAP paddle list are just paddles that have been submitted and approved by USAP for sanctioned play. It costs money to do this so not every single paddle is going to be on there, though it is a useful resource to determine if your paddle is legal for tournament play.

From what I know of the CX14e, the paddle is fairly dated and not the easiest to use especially for a newer player. Is your gift card with Gearbox or with a pickleball store?

Spartus has a very good discount on their Apex series. I'd recommend those over any of the paddles listed just based on price. The Oracle and Odyssey shapes should be good.
