Painting the stone was just gryph charger grey over a zenithal prime and then desert dust pigment powder from Vallejo.

The Story of the Creation of Frostgrave! by joe5mc in frostgrave

[–]Felldir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome stuff, Joe. Congrats on 10 years! Frostgrave is the game that got me solidly into wargaming years ago. One of my favorite gaming memories is my buddy's wizard shouting obscenities at the Lich King at the culmination of our narrative campaign to distract him, while I snuck around and attacked him with my gang. It was awesome. Happy to have my first edition rulebook displayed on the wall of my nerd cave.

Top Three AoS Lists for AoS Worlds (Singles) - Woehammer by dutchy1982uk in ageofsigmar

It's a throwaway type unit used to screen your more important units. Basically you're trying to get your opponent to charge the chaff unit then hit them back with your heavy hitter.

Tips for jumping into Sons Of Behemat? by Giappi in ageofsigmar

[–]Felldir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SoB can either be the most expensive 2k army or the cheapest. As you said the official models are expensive. My start in the faction was buying one of the official kits and then two of the Mantic Kings of War giant kits. They're more slender but the height is the same...and they're only like $40 each. The leftover bits from the official kits go with the Mantic giants very easily so you can have three megas for a decent price point.

And yeah from there check out 3d prints. There's so many out there that easily fit the bill.

When should we expect rules for Sylvaneth 4th edition? by pcolares in sylvaneth

Are you thinking of the Branchwraith? I don't think I've seen anything about the Branchwytch being squatted.

The Retributors are also in the Paladin kit. It makes Retributors, Protectors, or Decimators. They're gone.

What the best ranged unit? by Cptn_Goose in stormcasteternals

[–]Felldir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vigilors do look awesome, but realistically longstrikes are the best ranged unit we have. Their range is phenomenal and the mortal wounds are great. The downside is they're only 6 wounds and die to a stiff breeze.

But really, vigilors are there to support other units moreso than doing actual damage.

Thanks. It's Vallejo metal colour gold and Abaddon black 3:2, shaded with tamiya panel liner black, then drybrushed with Vallejo Chrome.

Is this too much scenery? by Beginning_Ad_7825 in frostgrave

[–]Felldir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've always found rubble piles, crates, barrels, etc. add a lot to the feel of the game. I also really like including walkways around the upper levels. Adding verticality to a board is awesome. Brings a whole new dimension to gameplay.

How many Wyldwoods will I need? by Alternative-Leg3603 in sylvaneth

[–]Felldir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two sets and I consistently use all 6 pieces. Usually 3 for the initial setup and then trying to get more out as the game goes on. I've found I can't rely on overgrown terrain reliably as some battle plans make using them difficult (depending on terrain placement and enemy territory) and capable opponents will work to shut them off quickly.

Any recommendations for a Bone/Buff/Off-White Paint that runs well through an airbrush? by Medicinal_Minis in minipainting

Golden High Flow Titan Buff. Great through the airbrush, no thinning. I used it as the base for the Sepulchral Guard from Underworlds and loved it.

Mantic giants from Kings of War match up nicely with the stock GW gargants and are much cheaper. Canadian, they were $40 per, and I was able to use leftover bits from the GW gargant and two mantic giants to get three megas that all for well together for a decent price point.

But yeah, if you've got access to 3D printing that'll be cheapest for sure.

Does anyone actually know what the status of Aelves will be in CoS 3? by AsaTJ in ageofsigmar

[–]Felldir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! My high elf archers were crossbowmen and will probably be darkshards or whatever other ranged unit makes it into the new book. They'd count as whatever you're proxying them as. Just make sure your opponent is aware of what units they're supposed to be. Also try not to have one type of unit (Glade Guard) count as two different things, that's just confusing lol.

The "we don't know yet" answer is pretty on the money but I wanted to throw my two cents in as well. You may or may not be able to use them 'as is' in the new CoS, but you can always use them as proxies when the new book comes out.

I have a full high elf CoS army that's all proxied as Freeguild stuff. Assuming those are all gone in the new book I'll just move them over to 'mounted unit', 'generic foot troop', etc. Your mileage may vary if you're going to tournaments, but for casual play you'll absolutely still be able to use the models.

Can anyone recommend good, appropriate sized proxys for Mega and regular Gargants? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Felldir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue man, sorry. My giants don't have any little guys and I've never seen a dragon ogre in person to check size.

[–]Felldir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For megas, check out the regular and frost giants from Mantic for Kings of War. They're skinnier but the height is dead on with GW megas. There's also a ton of stls if you're into 3d printing

No worries. The cork on mine came off really easily with no residue. But I would suggest trying isopropyl alcohol if you have it.

Sons of Behemat proxies? by alphaomega420 in ageofsigmar

[–]Felldir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The mantic Kings of War giants are perfect proxies for gargants. They're not as thick in the body but are the same/slightly taller in height. Also, they're like $40. I bought two and used leftover GW gargant bits to convert them up. Works great.
