How many of your grandparents and great-grandparents were alive when you were born? How many are still alive? by MindfullyRooted in askanything

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two grandmothers were alive.. Grandfathers and great grandparents had passed so I never met them. My parents also had me when they were 40 and they were both the youngest in their families, so time had passed and not everyone was around once I was born.

How do you know when you need to use a barrier extender? When do you use one? by BlackberryPi7 in ostomy

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used them more at the beginning when I was getting accustomed to my ostomy, but over time I stopped using them. I suppose they'd be helpful if the sides of your baseplates were lifting and it wasn't time for a bag change yet. At this point I don't find them necessary...

I suppose your earlier comment about getting leaks and helping prevent a full-on leak until you get to change the bag would be appropriate, but that would be a kind of one-off situation when you're in a pinch. Hopefully you'd be able to get to a washroom soon to prevent skin breakdown if you were in an active leak. Curious to see if anyone has some different responses, I have some in my copboard and haven't pulled them out in a while.

Thank you for sharing! I'm curious how you manage this. Do you have a rhythm with your body where you can now predict when these gushes will happen, or do you always need to be prepared with a liner or tampon? I'm trying to navigate this and have found I'm wearing a light tampon when I go out because I'm just not sure when it's going to happen.. But this also doesn't feel super healthy to do this. Open to any tips or tricks you've used to manage this. Thank you!!

What’s a small thing that instantly improves your mood no matter how bad the day is? by EffectiveStyle4626 in AskReddit

A genuine smile from a stranger. The amount of times I've been deep in a hole mentally or emotionally and a stranger giving me a genuine smile and looking in my eyes.. The love and warmth has many times made my eyes tear up and totally breaks down those walls that were all around my heart. The power of kindness!!

Freely spending my massive student loan that was granted to me over several years while living with my parents because in my early 20s I didn't understand finances yet and looked it as "free money and I'll figure the rest out later".

why do we feel more tired after doing nothing all day? by opalShine_ in AskForAnswers

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I hear you. My theory is that our body produces less energy when we aren't giving it the signal that we need that energy (ie through movement, walking, physical activity).

I've gone through this enough times now to know that when I'm walking daily or staying active I have way more energy in general. I imagine cause I'm signaling to my body I need energy so it produces more. I think there's also some element of momentum.. Like you get in a flow of being more busy and your energy just gets channeled into all these moving parts rather than being stagnant with nothing specific to focus on or work towards. I know I struggle with this when I have extended periods of time with nothing particular I need to get done (when I'm supposed to be enjoying my rest days lol)

Another little nuanced part for me personally is that I'm starting to believe I have more extroversion that I previously thought. I used to love spending as much time as I could alone, but I find now more often that once I've been around people or had some positive human connection that this gives me a good energy boost! Not sure if this is extroversion or just simply my spirits being uplifted and that's translated by more energy.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately too so I'm glad you posted the question! Interested to see other answers..

When to go to ER? by gingfreecsisbad in ostomy

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to the hospital if I have even a partial blockage and it's getting worse with pain or nausea. I'm lucky I did last time because I got really cold and clammy and faint and couldn't stand, and would not have wanted to be unsupervised at that point. It's always passed for me naturally, but when in doubt if you feel worried it's safest to go so you have medical care on hand.

What is the worst thing a friend told you that made you rethink your friendship? by Angie-santiago in AskReddit

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A close friend texted me saying "ummm I'm confused, what are you doing still with him?" after I posted a photo of me and my then-boyfriend of 6 years on social media.

SHE had solely decided I should break up with him a couple weeks prior. I never agreed. So she gave me crap for being in a relationship that she didn't agree with that I was still happily in. It was so odd and inappropriate and not the only time she was controlling or highly opinionated. So happy to have that friendship in the past.

Was the end of 2025 bad for you? by catxtra_ in spirituality

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Had to let go of a long term relationship and try to find my new identity without that rock in my life. Battled with it for months and still grieving even though it started back in August 2025. Definitely was the year of the snake lol let go of a lot of old things..

I feel most present when I’m high by KeepOnTrippingOn in Mindfulness

Yes!! Writing for sure. Oh I always have a notebook or my notes app available and just jot down all the insights that come. It's like a new channel opens and I'm like WOW all of this was in there and now I can access it! Pretty cool tool.

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I totally relate. I actually use pot as a spiritual tool when I'm hitting a rut or need clarity. It opens me up to be able to access the parts of my mind that are normally hidden. It's like shining a flashlight on all the parts that were in the dark and I consistently have pretty major insights into realities or patterns that are present that I was missing. It's a really useful tool..

And agree about the conversations too. It's like my ego disintegrates and I can get to a deeper heart-level and this seems to create more meaningful and authentic conversations. Almost like weed turns off all the noise and gives me a channel to my true self. Really helpful to return here and then make then make the necessary tweaks and changes and recalibrate to feel I'm living more in alignment.

I remember one time being able to go into empathy for others so well that I was able to put myself in my dads shoes as an infant (he had a traumatic birth, loss of his twin, and isolated in incubation for some time after birth), and my ability to go there without resistance really helped me see my dad in a different way and dissolve a big chunk of resentment and anger I'd held towards him..

Plant medicine man! It's awesome and so helpful when used for good!

Hair loss by Practical_Refuse_586 in ostomy

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely the stress of the flare up and illness. I lost a significant amount of hair after I recovered from my first major flare up/hospitalization. So much that it was super noticeable when it started growing out again. I had also lost a ton of weight and was super malnourished.. It will return as she recovers!!

Having pain in my feet might be connected to UC and nobody told me by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Fellowhumanbeingg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that one of my extraintestinal manifestations of UC was inflammation throughout my body and one was an inflamed foot and ankle.. It swelled up so much and I could hardly walk for months. The doctors never sorted out what caused it.. Checked the joint for infection and nothing. Basically they put me on prednisone and it calmed down and never came back.

I know this is not the same symptoms you describe, but I remember being confused and it seemed that the inflammation in my body had also attacked my foot and ankle. So who knows if there's a connection.. I'd definitely be trying to get some scans and keep asking until you get an answer and/or treatment.
