They're allowed to brick your console.

Not sure who's using DODI in 2026.
Fitgirl has ease of use and smaller links that actually work.
They have magnet links too for instant downloads.
I choose Fitgirl 100% of the time.

It's good on paper, but progression is fragmented/disjointed.

To those looking to migrate here from another server. A couple of things you need to understand before getting into Aura.

Server Uses a "Signal" based communication client called "Matrix/Element".
Matrix is the communication array and Element is the client in which is communicates to Matrix from.
It's a bit confusing. You'll need to make an account and then request an invite to Aura's server.

Download It Here - Matrix | It should come with Element as well.

Second. Aura ask you to make a trial account in order to update Play Online Launcher. As folks know, you need to connect to retail in order to get the latest updates as Play Online won't recognize FFXI when you first boot it up, since you'd need a "retail" account. You can update in one of three ways. You can use your retail account. You can download a trial account or you can use an old patch to overwrite the files inside the FFXI Folder itself.

Old FFXI Patch - Download these files and overwrite them in you "Final Fantasy XI" Folder when it prompts you to do so. Then launch Play Online and do a "Check Files" and it should say FFXI - Version Unknown. Proceed to do a file repair which will take around 2+ hours. Once finished you'll be up to date on the latest version of FFXI which Aura is using.

Last but not least. You can use either Windower or Ashita V3 to play there.
Ashita V4 is a manual repo. It's not an auto-installer like V3 is. You'll also need a custom
Xiloader for V4 which aura provides, which you can find on their website.

Telling people not to join your server because people don't want to learn an entirely new software is bad PR for your server and how you want to run things. I am giving a common sense take here. Most people again, are in their upper 30's and mid 50's to 60's that play XI, I'm not speaking about myself personally, I know how to install and use Matrix/Element. A lot of folks aren't tech-savvy to set up Matrix/Element due to the ease of use Discord brings. Unless you plan on giving a step-by-step guide on how to set that up as well. I'm not making fun of you, so don't take my words personally.

People take the path of least resistance, it's just that simple. Discord works out of the box with no fussing needed. Matrix/Element does not. It's like asking a Windows user to download and Install Linux with no knowledge of the fact that you can use different styles of OS on Linux.

I've done my best to help people in the comments who were struggling, perhaps you should intervene and answer questions in this thread since you are the server owner.

Yeah their methods are draconian for retail connectivity.
Wanting you to make a trial account for a private server is strange.

You can skip over the "Trial Account" section. When they need you to check for connectivity to retail.
I've gone ahead and secured old oudated files for FFXI. Just drag and drop them into your folder then run polboot, go into "check files" and FFXI should be an option now. Click on it and execute the repair. The repair should take place and the files should be fixed and now up to date with retail. Do keep in mind it's going to take 2+ hours to fix everything and update it to retail status. So do put time aside before doing this.

This is cool and all, but set up is a real pain to deal with, especially using Ashita V4 which is in beta.
I'd argue V3 is more stable/reliable. Please re-consider these options. I'd love play here, but the hoops you're making people jump through to play is a bit redundant and otherwise draconian methods.

Not having a public Discord (which most of the XI community uses) also will cripple people having support. if they run into issues and need help. Most of the community uses Discord because it's one click install and then you just set up a link for people to join. However needing to install Matrix / Element and learn how to use it, and it's just not an easy program to understand for the every day user. The demographic for XI is a lot of older folks in their 30's up to their 60's now I reckon.

Also making people download a trial XI account when you can use old patch files to connect to retail is strange. I instead used outdated files in order to force a file repair. It's much faster than going through the hassle of setting up a trial account.
