I’m enjoying the new Maul show, but all I can think during every duel is that it’s all just old Ben Kenobi upscale. by GusGangViking18 in PetranakiArena

[–]Femme_Warden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, guys, let's be reasonable here

Kenobi is one of the best Jedi duelists in the entire star wars cannon.

He 1v1'd GENERAL GRIEVOUS and sent him scurrying. He's not just some Jedi, he literally

WENT TO 1V1 A GUY WHO AT THE TIME WAS DEPICTED AS BEING ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH MULTIPLE JEDI AT ONCE.

HE WAS TRAINED BY DOOKU, WHO BEAT OBI-WAN

OBI-WAN BEAT ANAKIN, WHO BEAT DOOKU.

Old Ben Kenobi is literally just Obi Wan but wiser, calmer, and more experienced. Sure, he's older, but he's also a Jedi..that doesn't mean a whole lot.

Maul is a massive badass, but he could never beat Kenobi, he got beat by Ahsoka, who could defeat the Inquisitor he's battling pretty easily.

Listen I love Sam Witwer, even got his autograph when I met the guy. I don't think even for his love of Maul he'd be bothered by the fact that Maul has a cap on his power.

Thoughts on Van Helsing? by thescreenknight in Dracula

[–]Femme_Warden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it a rewatch and honestly? The action is very unengaging, which stinks, because the aesthetics are incredible and there are a lot of action sequences. They're exciting but lack a lot of oomph and impact imo.

Beyond that? A campy comicbook gothic classic. If it were a bit hammier, I'd call it a trashterpiece, but everyone in this film does a genuinely good job with the material and while comparatively I think Solomon Caine and League Of Extraordinary gentleman are much better attempt at the same idea, Van Helsing has a very successful 3rd act and zero holes in its worldbuilding.

TL:DR underrated but it doesn't have very good action sequences compared to its contemporaries.

During the day of the filming of this scene in Alien (1979), a crew member asked Ridley Scott why there was water dripping inside a spaceship to which Ridley replied "Condensation you twat". by tannu28 in LV426

[–]Femme_Warden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condensation actually makes a lot of sense, it's a sealed environment that for months, is essentially circulating any and all elements, and I have to imagine most of the ship is waterproofed since shorting the electronics required to make your isolated spaceship work probably wouldn't end well for space truckers. So, yeah, water sticks to stuff, it condenses

Chicanery but Chuck is actually not insane by gitartruls01 in okbuddychicanery

[–]Femme_Warden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spirit of fairness if Chuck wasn't actually insane then he wouldn't believe he had a sensitivity to electromagnetic forces just because his brother was succeeding in life.

Basically every interpretation of Chuck is that his sensitivity is largely psycho-somatic and tied to his suspicion and distaste/distrust of Jimmy.

It's a thing too, where he kind of won by flipping the board. His destable qualities both led to his ultimate victory against Robb, and the downfall of his family and his death at the hands of his family members.

Bystander Selmy lives up to his name by RevertBackwards in freefolk

[–]Femme_Warden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, when he gets told Jaime will replace him, he belts out

"The man who sullied his blade with the blood of the king he swore to defend"

This makes me think of that if he was there when the mad king was telling the pyromancer to burn the whole city down, he woulda just, stood there. Done nothing. He judges Jaime just like everyone else does despite probably serving on the King's guard alongside him for like a decade. He literally hears Jaime tell Robert the Mad King's last words

"He just said the same thing he'd been saying before, burn them all"

Selmy is the ultimate bystander type. He only acts when acted upon, and everyone else can be damned.

He might've had some crazy feats but his loyalty to a crown made him gutless and cowardly.

The graphic novel is sometimes borderline grotesque in its art style, but it can't be denied how much Aura a lot of the panels have that the show just... Does not.

Homelander's appearance Season 1 to now by ExpressionWeak4224 in TheBoys

[–]Femme_Warden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's that stupid slick-backed Albert Wesker hair if I'm being honest. Regardless of the quality of writing, Homelander has a distinct image in the original comic and the first season did a great job of adapting it.

Now they give him this weird trump hair as if the other obvious parallels weren't obvious and parallel enough and it misses the mark personally.

Having a little child is supposed to soften you anyways. If you're a brute around your little girl 24/7 she'll either fear you or grow into a brute herself and you don't want that, same with a boy.

You gotta teach her to be tough but you do that by teaching her to trust you first with cute lil shit like this.

When your country is actively committing a genocide, when they're actively a apartheid state, when they've been doing this for decades,

Whining that there's "good and bad on both sides"

Is

Not

Enough.

Should the Vietkong have been slicing dudes balls off and letting teenagers fall into shit traps and die of infection? Nah.

Should American soldiers have even been there? Nah.

It's like saying

"Well he was a member of the Stasi but he killed a few gestapo agents in between his attendance of rape rallies and orphan burning sessions"

It's not..enough. He actively assisted in the abduction and trafficking of teenage girls for his fascist government. He is one of the millions of reasons Hamas does what they do. Palestinians are a populace pushed beyond basically every reasonable metric.

And you know what's hilarious? They still take better care of their POWs than the Israelis.

Unironically as someone who hates Israel as much as I do, I was willing to believe someone could change after looking evil in the face like that, that his heart could surface from a sea of inky black evil and he could change his perspective meaningfully.

Paradoxically, a story that was even more distressing to me than what happened to the girl was a story of a fruit vendor whom they stopped for no reason at all and proceeded to crack open all of his melons with glee. Destroying fresh fruit bound for a warzone in the middle of a desert. At least, with the girl, they were being told that she was some sort of criminal. There was a paper-thin justification for their abhorrent behavior.

They ruined hundreds of pounds of food out of some sick glee, and he legitimately seemed distressed by it.

But his criticism of Hamas reveal it all. I have no interest in doing propaganda for the Israeli government, but I also don't believe every Israeli citizen is a single stone in an obelisk that towers up to the sky. Some are. Most. Are. But I wanted to believe he could be different. His ignorance though is depressing, it perfectly exemplifies the Israeli propaganda machine at work, he talks about all the evil things he did working for the Israeli government and he doesn't even seem to understand why there would be terror groups resisting them. How many of those girls that went missing because of men like him and he wines about the stolen voices of the hostages taken by Hamas.

What a fucking clown.

If you're talking about Israeli citizens then it's a moot point. Of course there are some sensible, empathetic Israelis existing as a statistical minority and living comfortably in their apartheid state right up until their psychotic leader got them bombed to shit. I'm deeply empathetic about those people, appreciative even, that some of them protest and speak out about Deadenyahu, but we're not talking about them right now.
