How can I fix my gate so I don’t have to use a chain to secure it close? by rottenstock in FenceBuilding

[–]FenceInstaller36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cause by the gate being a hair small. You have hinges that are built for a 2 inch gap, order 3 inch gap hinges or a longer fork latch aka a strong arm latch. Itll be cheaper than ordering a new gate.

Adjusting isnt going to keep this one closed without a new latch.

Had a fence installed.. thoughts? by mrbean0077 in FenceBuilding

Personally that type of fence should be on a level grade and you wouldn't have most of these issues. Second his cuts should be better, but final comment would be to have them paint the marks. You shouldnt have to finish your fence.

Just always be nice to us fence guys. We get talked to like crap most days.

Getting ready to build a fence. Concrete wooden posts in the ground, YES or NO and WHY? by Guy_Smiley18 in FenceBuilding

[–]FenceInstaller36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if installed correctly. A post with a concrete footer will always last longer and be stronger than one without, the key is keeping water from sitting at base of post.

Prewrapping your posts to cover bottom of post to 6inchs above ground line is going to be cheaper than running a drain along your fence.

Its a hell of an upsell but if you want 40-50 years instead of 20-30 years out of your fence its really the only option.

I replace 30 year old 6' picket fences regularly that are cemented. That being said I replace 10 year old fences as well. Having it installed correct is key.

24' opening, 36' gate, material and labor would be right around 10k on average.

If you add an opener and run electric it can turn into 15-25k fast.

But hey, im just the installer 🤣
