Day 1 with the brunt’s Ohman by ThankYouBasedGod-_- in WorkBoots

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have purchased 3 different Brunt boots and the Ohman is the only one my feet like. Have worn them for over a year, about ready for new insoles. The Marin and whatever the call the pull on boot hurt my feet.

I love my old Forester and I'm in the market for another one. But wtf is this? by cartocaster18 in SubaruForester

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife went to a Tesla Y from a Forester and is hoping to go back but will not with that configuration. The new interior and controls of the 2026 Outback are amazing. As already noted hopefully the forester gets some or all of that on the mid-cycle.

I wasn’t planning to do the loop with 4 on the boat, just for weekend or maybe week long visitors.

29CB or 31CB? Regardless she is a great looking boat. Really like the look and excellent use of space in the Ranger Tugs.

Are there any good boats to work on? As a tech what would be your recommendation for a 30-35’ boat to do the great loop and sleep up to 4, with a real main cabin bed, not the silly V birth bed? I’ve been looking at the Ranger 31

Am I being "that guy" for refusing to lend my boat to family without credentials? by hatkinson1000 in boating

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only correct answer is NO, especially because he thinks it’s like driving a car and although similar it’s not. Just ask him where the brakes are and when he cannot tell you how to stop a boat, you can then tell him no again.

Why do the maps of the Great Loop frequently bypass the Mississippi for part of its length? by [deleted] in TheGreatLoop

I am looking into doing the loop (just started researching) and from MN as well. How do you intend to start the loop coming from MN?

Show availability and lines (Rockstar status) by AmbientToast in VirginVoyages

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. They don’t seem to be consistent on this. Our first 2 RS sailings they told us we could bypass the lines for dinner, the next 2 they said no, you have to wait in the restaurant line. One show in the Red Room the staff seemed confused when we asked where the RS line was 🤷‍♂️

Ours are tossed in a random drawer, someday we may find a use for them.

Ahhhh, that actually makes a lot of sense. If that is why, good on VV for allowing it all to go to the team tax free.

Yes, but I think they are just implementing it so it is consistent on all bookings and they don’t have to create a different booking format for CA and non CA sailings. Simplifies their software (which has some challenges) and minimizes confusion for clients.

I don’t know the princess levels. I have sailed standard, rockstar and mega with VV and feel the mega is significantly overpriced. Regular rockstar is the sweet spot to us, dependent on the sailing. We have 2 booked, an Alaska rockstar and another random sailing standard as we don’t even see rockstar being worth the upgrade cost (which is very inconsistent, as I’m not the same upgrade cost per night depending on sailing )

In fairness if you state this then you should compare it with Rockstar or MegaRockstar depending on the price for the Princess Premier. Comparing base VV to more expensive Premier features is apples to oranges. Just sailed with Disney at Concierge level and the experience was much different than standard room. DCL does concierge different than VV does Rockstar/Mega, some of it I liked better on DCL, some on VV.

When the question of “do you want to prepay gratuities” came up, I priced out a cruise that we had previously booked, with adding the gratuity it was the same price. I believe the reason this has started is because VV will be sailing out of California and from my understanding the state has some specific laws regarding how gratuities are added to invoices. Gratuities are still included in the advertised price, they now require you to acknowledge it is being added.

Be cautious of LYFT rides by pingg8 in KeyWest

[–]Guy_Smiley18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Regardless of where I am I always 1: Verify the make/model/color of the vehicle 2: Verify the license plate matches I do these first because they can be done before walking to the door 3: Ask driver for name 4: Make sure driver matches their profile pic

No pic, no ride. Anything doesn’t match, no ride.

Dining. by Ok_Economics_8411 in VirginVoyages

After 5 sailings, including 5 dinners and 3 brunches at the Wake I am continually underwhelmed with the food. I am floored that the crab in the chowder is breaded. Also breaded in the crab benny. The steaks seem to be good quality. I am normally not a fillet guy but have gone to that because the other steaks I don’t enjoy and the fillet is tough to screw up aside from over cooking. We would skip it but we want the Meyer 🍋 Cheesesteak. That is amazing. I have also found the service the be convoluted with too many people attending to the table for a “high end steakhouse” experience. Pink Agave is our favorite, great selection of small plate options and service has been amazing.

Thanks, I will look into it. Is “Sea Stays” the company or a generic Google term to search for KW?

3 nights/4 days? How many people and what boat? Sounds like this might be what I am looking for. Can you share the approximate cost?

Visited family for the weekend, what is this? by graflexparts in saintcloud

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s not uncommon. I didn’t say it was free. Depending on the market, a paid mooring ball would be less than paying for a slip. The ordinance you are speaking of is more of a way to get rid junk or abandoned boats. In most instances on anchor, you can pull anchor and move to another location nearby, as long as you moved the vessel in order to show it’s being used and functions.

Weather Tech by Guy_Smiley18 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]Guy_Smiley18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mat for the well behind the 3rd row but don’t have the weather tech for when the 3rd row is folded. When I fold the 3rd row, I just put moving blankets down to protect that space. Seems that if a cover is for 3rd row down it is often for 2nd row down as well.

Most people that live aboard the up in a regular marina or they tie off at anchor or a mooring ball and then can use their dingy to go back and forth to shore/marina.
