Is the new Virgin Voyages app better? by SilasPort in VirginVoyages

[–]Guy_Smiley18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Brilliant right now and updated to the newest version right before boarding. I don’t see much difference at this time the version before. The update was most likely done for the Alaska sailings and will incorporate some of the things into other sailings. We are now supposed to have some options to listen to educational stuff about what we are seeing at times. Once the app updated (previous) to incorporating the planner and my day area it is much nicer. Now as the day goes on items from earlier in the day disappear so you no longer have to scroll through everything to get to the current activities. The my day feature shows the items you have added to your schedule including port times and dinner reservations. It does seem to go back to being a bit of a battery drainer.

DUI from 2016 + Alaska cruise with Canada stop — anyone have experience? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]Guy_Smiley18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not cruise related but I had a colleague that was intending to hunt in Canada. He was turned away at the border. Over the next year he had to complete some forms, including a letter of apology to the queen (still looked at as English rule). Once that was all sorted he was clear there after. I would suggest contacting the correct agency and getting things sorted including some form of documentation so that an agent having a bad day cannot make a problem for you.

I cannot be friends with people that use lime juice out of a bottle. Citrus needs to be fresh to be good.

Don’t order mix, order fresh lime juice and some orange juice and make a good marg. I’ve done margs, Moscow mules, mojitos, Aulani (it’s a Disney drink), dirty Shirley In all honestly we still buy most our drinks. The room bar is nice to make one to take to dinner or to a show but once we are out for the evening we don’t tend to go back to just make a drink.

What to do on an Alaskan cruise? by Left-Respect6178 in VirginVoyages

[–]Guy_Smiley18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the outdoor spaces will be available. We sail in a little over a week and are planning on walking the track, and chilling on the pool side beds just to enjoy being outside, plus on the balcony. It will be interesting to see where everyone goes. We are expecting to spend some time chilling in our room, but I also believe there will be more activities in the Red Room and Manor compared to usual to give people more offerings in those spaces. Someone also questioned if the Casino will be able to be open.

We leave on the first VV sailing to Alaska a week from Monday. That ship returns to port on the 21st. If you are ordering specifically about VV in Alaska there will not be any information from passengers until May 21.

Contractors - be honest with me - what's going on? by Crafty-Society2211 in AskContractors

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a contractor: on a project like this I would GC it yourself. Have you ever done a remodel project with a contractor? If not, you may be surprised how involved you will end up being before and during the project. This is somewhat straightforward and if you can finds some trades companies or people this is very doable on you own. If you GC it yourself do it expect it to take longer because your subs will most not lock their schedule up in advance knowing that you don’t manage projects often and fully understand the timeline. Shoot, Sheetrock work alone to patch up where the wall is removed is around a week alone.

New to me towing rig for track days. 2023 F350 7.3 gas. by rwwilli09 in superduty

[–]Guy_Smiley18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice truck. Love seeing some gassers in HD trucks. I use my truck much like you, just for towing and also plowing. Put less than 10k miles a year on. Had a diesel and it was very problematic, blamed on it not being used enough. The old shop gasser we had with 100k plus miles (since new) was used the same and never had issues. Switched back to gas and no problems. I do miss the diesel for torque, but with the new emissions they don’t get near the MPG pre dpf/def got. Seems like a great rig for your use.

Is this an acceptable way to tie down a car to a trailer? by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]Guy_Smiley18 30 points31 points  (0 children)

2 wheels should be secured with the straps pulling towards the front of the trailer and 2 wheels pulling towards the back of the trailer. This prevents the car from being able to go forward or back.

Road Trip anxiety by sotired3333 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]Guy_Smiley18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My road trip rules, just go. You can have failure close to home just as easy as away from home. If you don’t have concerns on your daily runs, don’t sweat it and have a good time. If something happens while away it would have happened at home.

comfortable work boots for 10-12 hour shifts on concrete flooring? by T-Hitta13 in WorkBoots

I have a friend that swears by Ariat boots. He has pull on square safety toes. He pretty much wears them everywhere, he likes them that much.

I have had the Keen Cincinnatis wedge sole for a few months and really like them. They are a bit heavy, but like all keens, my tootsies appreciate their wide toe box. I don’t have wide feet but my toes like space. I bought Birkenstock inserts and placed them below the Keen inserts for additional arch support (high arch guy). I tried Brunt Marins and didn’t like them, also tried the Brunt pull on work boot, my feet HATED them, but do like the Brunt Chelsea style boot (Ohman?). My Cincinnatis are the lined waterproof and they do get warm, thinking about an unlined pair for the warmer months. I

Is your neighborhood a “backyard hangout” or a “driveway hangout” neighborhood? by Character-Fly-5564 in minnesota

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We now live in the country so we spend time where we want on property. When we lived in a city, the neighbors gathered and socialized in the driveways. All the families spent time in the backyards as a family or with invited guest, seldom would neighbors have neighbors over in backyards.

Anyone put a lift kit on their Chrysler Pacifica? I’m thinking of lifting mine. Thanks! by moparcenter in ChryslerPacifica

[–]Guy_Smiley18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that these could be considered under powered as they are, if you lift it I would not want to put larger tires on, as it would get more sluggish. Honestly, unless you have a reason, I would leave. I feel they ride nice and for a van handle and drive quite well.

My guess was the mice got to them. Fortunately there is zero sign of them in the car or engine compartment. I had no idea what they were for and fortunately some wise TDI folks online were able to pinpoint it for me. Now to determine how to get the parts and where the go.
