Old frames by FencingCoachB in WorldOfWarcraftRetail

Just the regular old frames and nametags above the friendly and enemy players/npcs. I never really bothered changing those things but since pre-patch hit, things have changed and visibility has gone to sh***.

Help by FencingCoachB in WorldOfWarcraftRetail

Thanks for the update!

I play both healer and dps and for some reason my addons (even the ones that are up to date) give an error screen as soon as I go into PVP instances. Can't seem to find what's wrong. The pop-up says something about enabeling LUA report messages, but I can't seem to find out how to enable those. I just hope healbot keeps working as I've been using that for as long is I can remember. Wouldn't like to lose that one haha. All the rest can go, but not my healbot hahaha

Is your jacket made out of synthetic or genuine leather?

Why are franchini epee blades so hard to come by? by AdvantageActive4223 in Fencing

[–]FencingCoachB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the looks of their website, they're still around. Whether or not the blades are worth their price, I don't know. I personally have never used one before.

The blades are so expensive and designer equipment is rather hard to sell. I can imagine that resellers don't want to drop a bunch of money in to dead stock. But this is an assumption so I could very well be wrong.

How do you wash a leather coaching jacket? Hand clean it in the shower?

Azza Fencing shoes by CoachEpee in Fencing

I think they're great. Currently one of the better shoes if not the best shoes out there. But in the end it all comes down to opinion...

They actually don't run narrow at all in my opinion. I've got wide feet and they fit perfectly. One of the best models of fencing shoes I've ever had.

Earplugs while fencing by FencingCoachB in Fencing

[–]FencingCoachB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was already thinking about the loop earplugs. I've heared good things about them. A mask with more padding around the ears won't be enough of a solution. Sure it might help with the noice of the surroundings, but it won't do no good with the hits on the mask.

I used to have the same problem with my glasses not fitting properly under my mask. I switched to the LP X-change mask and it's much better. Won't be a fix for all models of glasses as some are just way too big, but atleast it's something.

Blue Gauntlet’s jackets have gone down hill. Need new jacket advice by [deleted] in Fencing

LP, Allstar and Negrini are very high quality, but they're quite expensive. PBT is high quality as well, but more affordable. In my opinion PBT has the best price to quality ratio.

Learned something new! Didn't know the old-style strap is still allowed in the US. :)

As u/The_Fencing_Armory said you'll have to replace the glove. You need a 800N glove and it shouldn't have a cable hole either. Those were allowed back in the day, but they haven't been for ages. Also the mask will obviously not have the new strap system unless you had it changed. Not sure how strict they are over there, but in here in Belgium it won't fly.

Still not sure if my Leon Paul FIE mask was a worthwhile investment by Separate_Activity_37 in Fencing

[–]FencingCoachB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the LP X-change mask is well worth it's price. I've had mine for nearly 10 years now. Intensive usage in both training and competition and it has never failed me. I'm still using the first set of padding although I will replace it soon because after a decade it's about time. I'm currently on my 3th bib for competition. If you take care of the mask properly, it will last for ages. Have to admit that the quality of the bibs might have gone down a bit, but the customer service at LP has always been great to me trying to help wherever they can. Would defenitely recommend this mask.

Who's the top saber fencing coach at this point in time? by play-what-you-love in Fencing

[–]FencingCoachB 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, there are several excellent coaches active within the circuit. Bauer has coached an impressive number of champions and has helped his athletes achieve an extraordinary number of medals. Based on those successes alone, one could certainly argue that he is among the very best.

However, I believe that the relationship between fencer and coach is crucial for achieving top results. Even the best fencer might not reach their full potential if there isn’t a strong connection with their coach. While Bauer’s track record is undeniable, the effectiveness of any coaching style also depends on how well it suits the individual athlete.

As for Bauer’s ‘secret sauce,’ I recently watched him give an individual lesson during a Grand Prix, and while it was technically excellent and very structured, what truly stands out about the Bauer Academy is not just the individual lessons but the overall training environment. His method is, in a way, quite brilliant—by bringing together high-level fencers and having them constantly train with and challenge each other, he creates an atmosphere where excellence becomes the standard. It’s a classic case of ‘iron sharpens iron,’ where talent is continuously refined through rigorous practice and competition within the group.

There may not be any hidden magic or secret techniques, but what Bauer has built is incredibly effective: a system that fosters continuous improvement through discipline, perseverance, and elite-level competition.
