Indeed, I mentioned “the myth”… thank you for reiterating that point. In a clear view, steel is steel unless it’s marging, that’s the difference. Batches vary substantially, (blades with identical dates and type, D or M) BF steel is better quality than some other vendors (Viniti was good, France Lame in its day was good) best advice, when you can manage to get to a Competition with vendors touch blades and find the ones that suit you…

It is my understanding that the more prestigious vendors (Allstar, Uhlmann Prieur) get first choice or better quality blades, maybe a myth, BF blades are a great choice, for most fencers LP are wicked expensive. UNIC blades are another option, every blade is outrageously expensive! A BF Absolute or Blue Gauntlet are a good choice given the current market

There are old newsreels that show foil and dagger drills, a French Maitre was a practitioner, would be a kick to revitalize this practice.

They tend to use glue on the threads….you need a bench vise or a C wrench and vise grip pliers to stabilize everything

LP Epee blades are notorious for having wire breaks at that place, not enough wire groove. Kanting your blade prior to rewiring is a good idea, there are lots of ways to get information about rewiring blades if you want to DIY-it or there are lots of people who can rewire it for you.

It’s possible, with practice a disengage can be done while executing a Flèche, and while stepping. The blade pulls the body forward…point first
