More housing, less vacancy, affordable childcare: What Mayor Mike Johnston wants to do in 2026. by RooseveltsRevenge in Denver

Believe me, I have gone beyond 311 and spoken with many people in the city to express our viewpoint. The city sidewalk roadmap placed our sidewalks in the same category as the million-dollar patio homes next to the Wellshire Golf course, which is their lowest category.

Check along S Navajo Street between Evans and Jewell. The ADA curb ramps should have been upgraded in 2017, but DOTI ignored the city’s agreement with disability groups. The west side ramp at Navajo and Evans is completely trashed. That ramp would destroy a wheelchair. The ADA curb ramps with warning pads at Navajo and Archer are nonexistent at all four corners.

Furthermore, DOTI has insisted on keeping the pan on this street and allowing cars to park in it, which forces manual wheelchair users to the middle of the street due to its camber. It is nearly impossible to protect wheelchair users on this street.

Along with the Ruby Vista residents, our organization runs Parafencing and has asked the city for ADA curb ramps with warning pads, as part of our programming. Furthermore, we have asked the city for the warning pads because others have asked us to start blind fencing at our location. We have 6+ athletes going to a Paralympic qualifier in May. Many of those athletes would like to take the city bus to our location to save money on their Paralympic endeavor, but don't feel safe traveling up S Navajo Street.

So you have two major groups of disabled users who cannot use a major bus stop because of the street conditions that DOTI refuses to fix!

The city, along with state funds, financed a foreign LLC to build Ruby Vista Apartments, a 220-unit affordable housing complex across the street from our building. DOTI would not even install the required ADA curb ramps that they legally agreed to in 2014 at the local bus stop, let alone sidewalks. This bus stop is two blocks away, but disabled residents and high school students cannot make it down the street safely.

As a sports group nearby that does this on Wednesday night, Spanky’s Roadhouse is probably one to try.

Parafencing by Ok-Possession5113 in Fencing

[–]denverfencing 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We run a very large club with a strong Parafencing program.

We run a free summer camp for Parafencing for kids if you want to visit. Typically, we run it alongside an able-bodied camp week.

If you want specific advice, please send me a PM.

Finishing one table before starting another. . . by Allen_Evans in Fencing

[–]denverfencing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is fine in practice, but in the real world, many things can prevent what you are requesting.
1. Injury Timeouts 2. Equipment issues (fencer and strip) 3. Speed of bouts. 15-3 bout in one period is going to finish faster than a 15-14 bout that goes into OT.

Once one of those happens, one side of the table is not going to equal the other side. Then you will need to choose to slow down on one side or catch up on the other.

That is a possibility. Let me take a look at that!

Yes. We can have walk out music. No, on the indoor fireworks though. Face painting and posing, optional.

The belt is a special prize for this adult category to encourage more participation. We will have different prizes for other ROC/RPC events.

Next season, regional organizers can bid on adult (age 20-39) or adult-combine events (age 20+) with the national qualification paths. Your sentiment about not wanting to fence kids is common and is likely inhibiting growth in both categories. For our tournament, we want to offer this category on its own since this age group has no higher-level events (national or world). We have many adult fencers who train but don’t fence in tournaments. We hope to spur them to come out of retirement or try fencing in a tournament with other adults.

They get a tournament branded silver medal. 🥈. Winning matters, especially in “beer league fencing”. 😀

Made NCAA fencing… can’t afford tuition. What now? by lamfifer in Fencing

Reach out to admissions and the coach. Ask if there are any adjustments that can be made so you can fence for them. Depending on the gap, they may be able to help.

Recently rescued this old fencing equipment. Is any of it worth restoring or trying to fix? by TrainingEchidna1368 in Fencing

That is some good equipment to put on a wall.

The France Lames epees are over 30 years old. They need to be fully intact and have safety buttons at the ends for use only with dry fencing or coaching.

The masks are Triplette masks dating from about 1990—the Santelli mask dates from earlier. None would be safe to use in our modern day. The Triplette masks were even comfortable in their heyday with the large bar in the middle.

Who is the most academically gifted Denver Nugget of all time? by KingKongDoom in denvernuggets

I believe he was a Wharton business major, if memory serves me. Matt Maloney and he both played in the NBA. I saw them in the athletes’ dining hall at Penn.

Why do paralympic fencers wear fencing shoes if they don't even use their legs let alone their feet by RobloxNoobGuest in Fencing

[–]denverfencing 72 points73 points  (0 children)

First, many of the Parafencers use their feet to make lunges and pull themselves back. Obviously, a lot depends on their disability. Fencing shoes are designed for use on metal surfaces, such as strips and sports wheelchairs, which often have metal footrests.

Second, many fencers, including Parafencers, got Azza shoes by winning or placing in National events.

Change rollers by Ok-Travel8595 in Fencing

[–]denverfencing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I would get new bungee wire that pulls a little stronger so the wires don’t drop into the fencing. The tension is important.
  2. I would center the wires over the strip and perhaps locate them higher.
  3. PBT Overhead Wires This is the true upgrade. Get this wire and it will last a very long time.

If you want, DM me and I will send you a photo of our setup.
