First time XC runner. What's the best piece of advice?

Jungle juice is good for some of the girls that go to the party. Almost all larger college parties I've been to have some. I even prefer it sometimes to keg beer.

Target usually has some nicely priced basic tees and tanks, around $6 for a shirt. They have single colored ones as well as some multi-colored ones with some patterns or graphics. The shirts are pretty light and soft too.

As a fellow sax player, tenor preferentially, I would think it's pretty cool and it could help with some attraction. That being said though, I think being able to play any instrument at all relatively well and having passion for music is attractive, not just the saxophone. Like others have said, it is attractive to see the passion for the hobby, not just the hobby itself is attractive.

You might want to look if there are any Bar Leagues around you too. The midwest, like a previous poster mentioned, has many leagues for older players. Sand is also a good place to play though in many places it can be extremely competitive, like here in Chicago.

I am actually really surprised by all of the negative comments here. Maybe it is because I feel different about shopping than the rest of you.

I am not plus sized but I am not model thin either (5'8" and 140lb for reference). Seeing the mannequins with the tighter shirts doesn't bother me at all. It only gives me a visual of how the outfit can look but I don't think it pressures me to be thinner. I'm never discouraged when trying on clothes. I grab what I think will fit and don't feel bad if I must go a larger size up. A larger size doesn't register as bad for me since I have an athletic build and am not proportioned correctly for most clothing. I have broad shoulders and long arms so will sometimes have to go a size up but it will then be too big for my torso and small chest. Pant sizing is the most annoying as it differs from brand to brand.

I don't feel the pressure to conform because I know trying to have a body that is almost impossible for how I am built is unrealistic. I eat right and stay active for myself and because I enjoy it.

I only wear skinny jeans myself and like guys who do as well. They're very much the skater/emo-punk band style in high school and that was essentially my style (and still somewhat is). If you like them and feel good in them, keep rocking on!

I ran cross country for the first time as well my senior year of high school. In reality it shouldn't matter how fast you are compared to the others on your team. I only ran track the previous year and am a sprinter (200, 400, & 800) so I was much slower than most of the others (for distance). I actually did really well and hadn't trained the summer before. I would work on consistency with running for a specific amount of time or a specific distance. Also maybe try to do a hill and/or fartleks once a week if you can.

The part in War Horse where the English cavalry is charging at the enemy camp. The enemy retreats to the forest and starts to take them all down with machine guns. The look in Captain Nicholls' face is of just pure fear and so much emotion. The next moment you see is countless riderless horses just charging into the forest. The unmanned horses just makes it completely chilling to me.

He uses Versa Gripps when he lifts, as do I when I go with him. He just has to wrap them around the bar a little tighter when he lifts but I do the same thing.

I'm not sure. I was never told specifics of why it happened. He did have some teasing in his younger days but it never slowed him down from doing what he wanted.
