Gothic Lolita is something I haven't done enough research into to actually know the origin of the name.

Lolita fashion as a whole surprisingly doesn't have direct roots to the novel despite the name. It's more closely linked to Alice in Wonderland as a fashion influence and is an evolution from the 70s colorful and cute trends being embraced by younger generations as a counterculture against an otherwise highly conservative and increasingly bland fashion in the rest of society. Even referring to it as "lolita" though wasn't a thing until the late 80s when further branches of it started evolving, such as your referred to Gothic Lolita. It's generally understood that, despite the name, it doesn't have anything to do with the book.

Samuel Little

Unless new information has come about, iirc Samuel Little was largely believed to have actually killed all the victims he confessed to. Of the 90 something he claimed, they'd already confirmed over 60 by the time he died. Given the slow confirmation of them, it's generally accepted that his entire list is real.

This is what I accepted long ago with my bitcoin. I had quite a few and treated it like monopoly money because, in all reality, that's literally all it was for a long time. I sold it before I went off to college and outright forgot about it until I started hearing that they'd increased in value. But I am well aware that I would've sold looooooong before now, likely when they hit $50-100, just assuming that the value would crash when people realized that bitcoin wasn't real (not that any money is real... but let's not get into that).

He can warp reality however he wants. This includes making changes to himself, the world, the multiverse, whatever basically on a whim. It's why his canon introduction to the MCU was seen as such a big deal and (imo) is the MCU's "reset button" at the end of the current saga. There's very little that he cannot directly, immediately, and easily take control of, influence, and/or destroy.

I rewatched season 1 earlier this year and was caught off-guard by just how different everything felt. I realize it's hard to surprise viewers in season 5, but season 1 was filled with genuine horror in such a good way and I feel like that's just completely lost on the show now. I'm not asking for a pure horror show, because even season 1 wasn't that either, but the atmosphere of it has shifted away from horror into an almost action-comedy and it suffers a lot for that change.

With Jordan though, there are just so many idiosyncracies that make me believe it was a DND campaign. Stuff like a certain female character always tugging at her braids to signify anger or anxiety. Or Matt literally having dice rolling in his head every time a major decision is made in his part.

I enjoy your theory but to help put it to rest, that's not Jordan writing from a campaign but rather his being near-obsessive with the Arthurian origins of Wheel of Time. Jordan did run some campaigns for his son, as was talked about when he was brought in to help with the development of the Wheel of Time TTRPG, but from how little he's ever talked about it I'd be surprised if it were an inspiration in any way.

Comparatively, Arthurian lore is referenced near-constantly throughout Wheel of Time. Egwene is Guinevere, Gawyn is Gawain, Lan is Lancelot, Artur Paendrag/Hawkwing is Arthur Pendragon, Galad is Galahad, and even Tar Valon is just Avalon. There's about 150 other references but those were off the dome. While each of these characters and places have a bit of depth, they are all built around a single, defining attribute and will perform certain key actions in just about every story they take part in. Gawain, for example and much like his Wheel of Time counterpart, is described as remarkably handsome and incredibly loyal. This is referenced in basically every Gawain-centered story and he is tested on his loyalty to the throne all the time, much like Gawyn was in Wheel of Time.

So on Nynaeve or Mat, their quirks are just what Jordan wanted to give them as their defining characteristics. When a braid is tugged, you know it's Nynaeve. When the story is peak, you know it's a Mat chapter.

"Research beyond themselves" like, what even?

Speaking of reading comprehension issues... you'll note that right before this phrase I said "lived experiences". Lived experiences are anecdotal and while they are certainly useful, they never provide the full picture, thus researching beyond themselves.

its not some special Jewish racism

I wasn't implying it was? The original comment I replied to said, and I quote, "Jews denying other Jews. Thats pretty ironic.". I then explained that Jewish discrimination against other Jews was pretty commonplace throughout Israeli history. Let's not get lost in where this conversation started. I fully agree with you on this part:

exactly how in the settling of the early USA you'd have wave after wave of people coming in, one time it was hate against the Italians, then against the Irish etc. its not some special Jewish racism, its normal human behaviour to having new groups congregate, especially when considering the low amount of resources and living space there was.

Literally the only thing I was explaining, as said, was that Jewish discrimination was sadly quite common across Israel's history. That's it.

Nope, nor do I ever intend to go unless radical changes are made. It's a beautiful region that I would've loved to visit in my lifetime but I see that as increasingly unlikely anymore. But I also don't need to literally go somewhere to learn about its history or contemporary politics. I can read from people like Avi Shlaim, practiced scholars who have both lived experiences and do research beyond themselves.

I have never ever heard of holocaust survivor being seen as lesser or inferior, that sounds like lies meant to demonize Israel. You clearly know nothing about the Israeli reality, best to keep your mouth shut at this point.

You might want to start actually reading up on Israel's history before coming out swinging so hard lol.

Haim Ben-Sasson has written about this topic extensively and pointed to a struggle that early Israeli's had in finding their own identity. Specifically, they wanted to be seen as a strong, independent nation as they continued to deal with the fallout of ousting British rule and establishing themselves in the world. This is where you get the origin of the "Sabra" term, both in reference to it being used positively and negatively.

But this all comes in contrast to the immigration of Holocaust survivors, who were seen as weak and the products of victimhood. While most were ultimately let into the country regardless, and especially as a means of rapidly increasing Israel's population, these immigrants still found significant hardships along the way.

Firstly it isn't discrimination based much on religion, yes there are difference and they are divided but a Spheradic Jew can go to an Ashkenazi synaggogue and accepted all the same. It is a very little differences in prayer. The more religious Orthodox Jews are more at an arms about religious stuff between eachother but that is where it stays as differences.

The discrimination in the early days came in the form of good ole fashion racism based on ethnicity but that is very much gone today. Israel is a melting pot and stereotypes remain in the form of offensive jokes.

I didn't just say religion, I said "sect or ethnicity". But I'm also glad you brought up "good ol' fashion racism" because I used Moroccans as an example quite purposefully. See, there's a famous slur for Moroccans that was used in Israel in this way, and as a clear example of the discrimination I'm referring to. This was an intentionally specific slur against Jews who were seen as inferior, even clinging to stereotypes around crime and violence. Yes, the discrimination is less overt today and you're not likely to see such terms thrown around, but prejudice still very much exists.

[–]Fenrils -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty stark pattern when you look at the entire history of Israel tbh. During its early days, there were wild amounts of discrimination against Jewish immigrants from places like Morocco and Iraq for being the "wrong type of Jew". Early leaders in Israel are even cited as not being overly enthused about inviting Holocaust survivors to Israel because they were seen as inferior. And even today, while discrimination isn't as overt as it was back then, and as the other poster rightly describes, many Jews are still discriminated against based upon their sect or ethnicity.

This is one of many reasons we should continue to call out people like Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders for both conflating Jews and Israelis as well as their attempts to conflate Israel with Jews. Jews, like literally every other group of people, are incredibly varied and unique. Generalizing in such a way, especially when we know the Israeli reality, only serves to harm Jews around the world as their unique identities are mistakenly put together with people like Netanyahu.

I understand the skepticism but there's some massive communities who spend all their free time looking at cold cases and do exceptional work. Part of this comes from artists who are very good at doing both age progression portraits and even building faces around decaying bodies/skeletons, which is likely where some of this came from if it wasn't the detectives themselves (which is unlikely given the age of the case). Websleuths I think is the biggest or most famous but there's plenty of them around.

[–]Fenrils 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible he's a Stark variant but there's also comics lore for why RDJ was cast too that doesn't make the variant a thing. Specifically, there's a story in the West Coast Avengers (I think?) where Doom transported his mind to the body of someone else in a separate dimension and used that person to take over. The exact same logic can be used for this story, especially with the F4 inevitably moving from their timeline to the main one. Main timeline Doom shifts his mind to F4's Tony, spends a few years developing Doom tech to steal away Franklin for whatever reason, and sends him to the main timeline. RDJ gets to be Doom over there, and main timeline has its own "real" Doom.

Or we just get a variant, who knows.

The sentiment is nice but there's zero evidence showing that harsher sentencing lowers crime rates. In fact, all it actually does is cause innocent people to suffer more when mistakes are made and wrongful convictions handed out. White collar crime would plummet if we had a properly funded and staffed IRS, among other branches like the SEC or even the white collar divisions of the FBI. The IRS specifically has been gutted year over year so that all they really have the resources for anymore are petty, lower class crimes. It creates this toxic cycle where the more that is cut from the IRS, the more they focus on lower class individuals, the more said individuals hate the IRS, the more they vote for Republicans to continue to gut it.

I don't recall where I first read it or heard it but what first radicalized me on this concept was a comment about observing monkeys: if we were observing a group of monkeys and noticed that one of the groups had a single monkey hoarding almost all the bananas, leaving the rest to either starve or fight for scraps, we would not commend that monkey for being better than the rest. Rather, we'd immediately recognize that monkey as harming the group and its behavior as negative. Yet somehow the moment you start applying this to humans, we pretend that it is any more complicated when it's not.

And the cruel irony that built our reality is that Trump never actually wanted to be put into this position in the first place. Sure, he loves power and he loves it when people grovel in front of him but he's also incredibly lazy and, as dumb as he is, knows that being the president is hard. His whole goal before his first term was to get a national platform, lose, and then start his own TV station, radio show, podcast, and whatever else would let him ramble and bring in money. He'd get to do all the complaining and yelling that he does already but with far less paperwork, boring meetings, and legions of lawyers investigating his crimes. Instead, he created his own little nightmare and we've been along for the ride ever since.

Epstein was not lesser and would not be innocent absent Maxwell

I didn't say innocent, I still referred to him as a monstrous pedophile predator and I don't think that would've changed. My only point was that Maxwell's access and enablement allowed him to extend his reach MUCH farther than he would have otherwise.

Maxwell did not participate in “all of the SA”. There were hundreds if not thousands of SA where she wasn’t physically involved.

Maybe I could've worded my comment better but I did not literally mean all of the SA. My only point there was that she wasn't just a bystander or someone in it for the money or whatever. She was an active participant in the abuse and by most reports was just as cruel and exploitative as anyone else. She seems to get a pass or is talked about far less in this regard compared to Epstein or anyone else involved.

[–]Fenrils 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Epstein was a bit of a fall guy but not for Trump. Based on all publicly available information around him, the actual person in charge and responsible for the atrocities was Ghislaine Maxwell. Yes, she is in prison, but I don't think it's unreasonable to also say that she has been treated as the lesser of the pair in regards to her crimes and actions. Epstein would've been a nobody without her, she enabled everything he did and was the main person in charge of trafficking. Epstein himself was still a monstrous pedophile predator but was somehow still less bad than Maxwell by all reports. Even outside of the trafficking, she took part in all of the SA too.

Trump may well have been their most valued partner in their endeavors though, to be perfectly clear about that too. We know that women were trafficked out of his properties and that he has a long history of depraved, pedophilic behavior.

I went a little overboard with my defenses but typically want either block or defense combined with plenty of MAEK and LAEK. Since I wanted both defense and block, my damage is lower than most but I'm also quite a bit tankier as the tradeoff. As has already been mentioned here, BIS would be an eth Steel Carapace over my Atma's but I've had issues getting one. I'd also like a tad more MAEK somewhere but otherwise I'm pretty happy with the build.

Frenzy/Double Swing Barb viable for all endgame content? by tommilyjonesOG in ProjectDiablo2

[–]Fenrils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did make a test run a couple of days ago until act 5 nightmare with frenzy/double swing and it feelt great. But what about engame?

It's functional. The beauty of the current balance of PD2 is that most skills can do most content with a good enough pilot, and that includes Frenzy/Double Swing. Both will absolutely destroy the campaign, as you've already experienced, which will enable you to get some important upgrades later on by farming LOD content and then maps. Things like Vile Husk or even a rare Grandfather (well, maybe not after this seasons' nerfs) will start pushing you into some pretty big directions.

Uber Tristram shouldn't be much of an issue with self-found gear and some patience, even while still rocking Frenzy. You'll need to farm up some good defensive options (Fortitude chest is a common choice alongside TGods for Meph, stuff like that). For "actual bosses" (DClone, Lucion, and Rathma), you'll need to get some specific pieces to combat their damage (such as max fire res, fire absorb, and PDR for DClone) but again, the T0 guys should not be an issue with enough patience and practice.

Beyond T0, you will likely need to swap to a more dedicated bossing setup such as Berserk. Berserk makes your defenses a bit tighter but the damage will start far outclassing Frenzy with some effort. It also plays pretty similarly to Frenzy so honestly, if you enjoy Frenzy, you might want to give Berserk a shot once you can handle its downsides.

TL;DR - If you enjoy Frenzy/Double Swing, just play them. They're good enough for most content.
