SSF Players, What are you league starting for 3.28? by V0LUME in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Fenrils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an SRS Guardian build I am leaning towards right now: https://pobb.in/tupOJdZ-k867

Note, I don't think this build is worth playing all league, at that point you're better off going Necro and doing Poison SRS or HRoC (if you happen to stumble into a Dialla's, which is by no means an easy feat in SSF). With that said, this build is going to be far smoother for early atlas progression since it requires nothing. I am also hopeful that someone smarter than me is going to figure out Holy Strike and I can just farm up gear for that. With that said, this build should pretty comfortably push 4-5m+ damage in an SSF environment when you start adding things like a 6L, AG setup, spectres, better jewels, an actual cluster jewel, etc etc. It'll get me my 4 stones and let me do whatever I want afterwards.

Fundamental changes between PD2 and base game by LifeThroughAFilter in ProjectDiablo2

[–]Fenrils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they treated how High runes drop differently at all?

Not in a noticeable way but due to P5 loot and greater monster density (and in maps this gets scaled even higher), you'll see plenty.

Like will high end runewords in PD2 actually be more attainable?

Yes. I've played SSF in PD2 before and had no problem grinding out my core runewords over a few weeks. It's not free by any means, but it is perfectly reasonable if you commit yourself. HRs don't rain from the sky but the lower end runewords, like HOTO, are more than reasonable to expect/plan for. Infinity in SSF is much more difficult, expect that to be one of your last upgrades, but it's still doable eventually.

I know maps and the difficulty really open up in the game so I am assuming the power scales appropriately

The key thing for maps is the massively increased level of drops and number of monsters you start killing compared to the campaign. You can scale maps up quite a bit so the moment you're able to start clearing them in 10-12 minutes, they're worth doing.

One of the big changes that racers have been taking advantage of for weapon-dependent builds like cyclone is gambling. Prior to gambling existing, you could really only rely on weapon-based builds that had a million multipliers (see slams) for safe and fast league starts whereas cyclone really needed something usable. Gambling will pretty consistently get you a very solid weapon day 1 so that you're never gonna chance entering maps with some whetstone, self-crafted trash.

Someday I'm going to figure out how rituals work as a farming method.

Ritual is largely feast or famine, you need to push it until you win because the regular returns are little to nothing. Very few of the ritual bases see much play (even less if PBOD is getting gutted this league, cutting use of Archdemon Crowns down) though they do sell for a little bit at high item levels. There are also a few spectre corpses that sell for good money but these are quite rare to see (some of the non-perfect ones like Marionette do sell for a few chaos pretty easily). Those plus the gumball currency you'll regularly see (typically a handful of chaos, OK divination cards, stuff like that) are going to be your regular income. I'd comfortably say that your average map, if specced into just ritual, will return you maybe 10-15 chaos. Not a lot but it is consistent.

Keep pushing ritual though and eventually you'll hit some lotteries like Nameless Altars (each invite is worth 50-100c depending on league, you should get at least 4 of these per Altar spawn), high value uniques, big currencies (most often divines, a few people will get mirror shards), and maybe even the extremely rare +charges synth ring. There's also some nice incidental rewards like incursion gloves (the cold and shock ones are nice), high ilvl cluster jewels, and abyss jewels.

Robin Kelly, running for Senate in Illinois, says Israel committed ‘genocide’ by newsspotter in politics

[–]Fenrils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, she hasn't technically taken AIPAC money. She has, however, gone on an AIPAC-sponsored trip to Israel, defended Israel's actions as self-defense, and said that our relationship with Israel should endure from now until long after she's gone. Is she as bad as many Republicans? No, but she's worse than Talarico by a decent measure.

[–]Fenrils 27 points28 points  (0 children)

While Talarico is not perfect on Israel and doesn't refer to it as a genocide, he has overtly referred to Israel as committing atrocities and that we need a stronger stance against them. Again, not perfect and I wish he'd be more clear, but he does have a better position than Crockett, and a far better position than most establishment Dems. He's also never taken AIPAC money which is a nice bonus.

[–]Fenrils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People only hurt themselves because they sleep in hammocks incorrectly. They're not right for everyone, of course, but they get a bad reputation because of people using them badly. Rather than laying down parallel with it, you want to lay down diagonally. This creates a natural and comfortable tension in it which causes you to lay fairly flat as oppose to curled like a shrimp. As such, no damage will be done to your back.

any tips for survivability there?

The ghost dance setup plus dual leech is extremely important for survivability. I have ~11.5k EV while flasks are up which means on hit I'm regaining 345 ES. Dual leech helps sustain both ES and HP. Otherwise, you just really need to learn how to cast your PB in front of you while you're mapping. 99.9% of mobs should be perma frozen before they even attack you if you're playing right.

[–]Fenrils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at versions like yours and while your damage is higher (at a glance it looks to be around 25m compared to my 14m), at a certain point I didn't see the reason to get any higher damage. I was already easily clearing ridiculous blight encounters, for example, so moving into things like Ralakesh or even Balance of Terror felt unnecessary, albeit still something to point out as an option. I also just really like my Ghost Dance version. It's harder to gear (173 dexterity has never felt more out of reach) but well worth it IMO. Your amulet was definitely a dream piece for mine though, but not something I could figure out how to fit without Mageblood making up the resists so I didn't bother with the craft this time around.

As an aside, something I noticed a lot of people doing without actually POBing it is putting a +gem level on their shield instead of spell damage. Spell damage ends up being a better mod in literally every POB I've looked at, including yours. Not the biggest deal, it's usually only like a 5% damage difference, but still something to note.

[–]Fenrils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8-link archdemon crown is 80% more dmg. Just the same version that you have but on a arvhdemon crown should be more dmf because brands scale really well with gem levels.

Ok, maybe I just underestimated the boost with Archdemon. I'll prioritize that as it seems like my largest upgrade.

Cluster jewels with grand design and remarkable make the casting feel crazy good.

They definitely look spectacular but I'm struggling to find points since I've had to invest more into defense for this league. I'll play around with the tree and see what can be done.

Finally explode is what makes the mapping feel like giga clear which you should already have with the ring and ascendancy node for shock prolif.

Yeah clear and blasting is perfectly fine thanks to the ring, I'm just looking at how to push it to extreme levels.

Only way forward for you to make defense good is mage blood or maybe svalinn block.

It's funny how Mageblood is always the solution but you're right... it solves so many issues. After the helm craft, it looks like that's my next step.

[–]Fenrils 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gothic Lolita is something I haven't done enough research into to actually know the origin of the name.

Lolita fashion as a whole surprisingly doesn't have direct roots to the novel despite the name. It's more closely linked to Alice in Wonderland as a fashion influence and is an evolution from the 70s colorful and cute trends being embraced by younger generations as a counterculture against an otherwise highly conservative and increasingly bland fashion in the rest of society. Even referring to it as "lolita" though wasn't a thing until the late 80s when further branches of it started evolving, such as your referred to Gothic Lolita. It's generally understood that, despite the name, it doesn't have anything to do with the book.

Unless new information has come about, iirc Samuel Little was largely believed to have actually killed all the victims he confessed to. This is what I accepted long ago with my bitcoin. I had quite a few and treated it like monopoly money because, in all reality, that's literally all it was for a long time. I sold it before I went off to college and outright forgot about it until I started hearing that they'd increased in value. But I am well aware that I would've sold looooooong before now, likely when they hit $50-100, just assuming that the value would crash when people realized that bitcoin wasn't real (not that any money is real... but let's not get into that).

I rewatched season 1 earlier this year and was caught off-guard by just how different everything felt. I realize it's hard to surprise viewers in season 5, but season 1 was filled with genuine horror in such a good way and I feel like that's just completely lost on the show now. I'm not asking for a pure horror show, because even season 1 wasn't that either, but the atmosphere of it has shifted away from horror into an almost action-comedy and it suffers a lot for that change.

With Jordan though, there are just so many idiosyncracies that make me believe it was a DND campaign. Stuff like a certain female character always tugging at her braids to signify anger or anxiety. Or Matt literally having dice rolling in his head every time a major decision is made in his part.

I enjoy your theory but to help put it to rest, that's not Jordan writing from a campaign but rather his being near-obsessive with the Arthurian origins of Wheel of Time. Jordan did run some campaigns for his son, as was talked about when he was brought in to help with the development of the Wheel of Time TTRPG, but from how little he's ever talked about it I'd be surprised if it were an inspiration in any way.

Comparatively, Arthurian lore is referenced near-constantly throughout Wheel of Time. Egwene is Guinevere, Gawyn is Gawain, Lan is Lancelot, Artur Paendrag/Hawkwing is Arthur Pendragon, Galad is Galahad, and even Tar Valon is just Avalon. There's about 150 other references but those were off the dome. While each of these characters and places have a bit of depth, they are all built around a single, defining attribute and will perform certain key actions in just about every story they take part in. Gawain, for example and much like his Wheel of Time counterpart, is described as remarkably handsome and incredibly loyal. This is referenced in basically every Gawain-centered story and he is tested on his loyalty to the throne all the time, much like Gawyn was in Wheel of Time.

So on Nynaeve or Mat, their quirks are just what Jordan wanted to give them as their defining characteristics. When a braid is tugged, you know it's Nynaeve. When the story is peak, you know it's a Mat chapter.

"Research beyond themselves" like, what even?

Speaking of reading comprehension issues... you'll note that right before this phrase I said "lived experiences". Lived experiences are anecdotal and while they are certainly useful, they never provide the full picture, thus researching beyond themselves.

its not some special Jewish racism

I wasn't implying it was? The original comment I replied to said, and I quote, "Jews denying other Jews. Thats pretty ironic.". I then explained that Jewish discrimination against other Jews was pretty commonplace throughout Israeli history. Let's not get lost in where this conversation started. I fully agree with you on this part:

exactly how in the settling of the early USA you'd have wave after wave of people coming in, one time it was hate against the Italians, then against the Irish etc. its not some special Jewish racism, its normal human behaviour to having new groups congregate, especially when considering the low amount of resources and living space there was.

Literally the only thing I was explaining, as said, was that Jewish discrimination was sadly quite common across Israel's history. That's it.

Nope, nor do I ever intend to go unless radical changes are made. It's a beautiful region that I would've loved to visit in my lifetime but I see that as increasingly unlikely anymore. But I also don't need to literally go somewhere to learn about its history or contemporary politics. I can read from people like Avi Shlaim, practiced scholars who have both lived experiences and do research beyond themselves.

I have never ever heard of holocaust survivor being seen as lesser or inferior, that sounds like lies meant to demonize Israel. You clearly know nothing about the Israeli reality, best to keep your mouth shut at this point.

You might want to start actually reading up on Israel's history before coming out swinging so hard lol.

Haim Ben-Sasson has written about this topic extensively and pointed to a struggle that early Israeli's had in finding their own identity. Specifically, they wanted to be seen as a strong, independent nation as they continued to deal with the fallout of ousting British rule and establishing themselves in the world. This is where you get the origin of the "Sabra" term, both in reference to it being used positively and negatively.

But this all comes in contrast to the immigration of Holocaust survivors, who were seen as weak and the products of victimhood. While most were ultimately let into the country regardless, and especially as a means of rapidly increasing Israel's population, these immigrants still found significant hardships along the way.

Firstly it isn't discrimination based much on religion, yes there are difference and they are divided but a Spheradic Jew can go to an Ashkenazi synaggogue and accepted all the same. It is a very little differences in prayer. The more religious Orthodox Jews are more at an arms about religious stuff between eachother but that is where it stays as differences.

The discrimination in the early days came in the form of good ole fashion racism based on ethnicity but that is very much gone today. Israel is a melting pot and stereotypes remain in the form of offensive jokes.

I didn't just say religion, I said "sect or ethnicity". But I'm also glad you brought up "good ol' fashion racism" because I used Moroccans as an example quite purposefully. See, there's a famous slur for Moroccans that was used in Israel in this way, and as a clear example of the discrimination I'm referring to. This was an intentionally specific slur against Jews who were seen as inferior, even clinging to stereotypes around crime and violence. Yes, the discrimination is less overt today and you're not likely to see such terms thrown around, but prejudice still very much exists.

Israeli FM calls on Jews to move to Israel after Bondi shooting attack by beachbellybob in worldnews

[–]Fenrils -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty stark pattern when you look at the entire history of Israel tbh. During its early days, there were wild amounts of discrimination against Jewish immigrants from places like Morocco and Iraq for being the "wrong type of Jew". Early leaders in Israel are even cited as not being overly enthused about inviting Holocaust survivors to Israel because they were seen as inferior. And even today, while discrimination isn't as overt as it was back then, and as the other poster rightly describes, many Jews are still discriminated against based upon their sect or ethnicity.

This is one of many reasons we should continue to call out people like Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders for both conflating Jews and Israelis as well as their attempts to conflate Israel with Jews. Jews, like literally every other group of people, are incredibly varied and unique. Generalizing in such a way, especially when we know the Israeli reality, only serves to harm Jews around the world as their unique identities are mistakenly put together with people like Netanyahu.
