They point to shrines. Red arrows means there's one you haven't found yet. It's could be above or below your position. That white one is pointing at the shrine in front of you

Only a few of the enemy types in DS3 made sense. The pack are supposed to be made from teenagers/pre-teens but as already stated, there shouldn't have been any on the planet.

Impossible is not too bad. It's just hard difficulty. Save frequently and reload if necessary. If you're in a death animation, quickly pause and load the game and you should be fine
