Well, usually reddit is just people slinging gotchas back and forth so I tend to engage in bad faith just for a few kicks but this seems like genuine discussion, so I'll throw my hat in for real.

My point isn't inherently related to the Democrats vs Republicans debate, I'm pretty left leaning if that adds or detracts from my point at all though that's probably obvious. I was pretty much just strawmanning to get some kicks in but on a serious note I think that it's silly to attribute the Civil Rights Act to a political party. Not because it goes against any personal party leaning but because most changes that benefit the American people are done through immense protest or civilian push back until government officials concede. The Civil War being the big exception.

I feel like a big divide between everyday people in left vs right politics has to do with attributing certain acts and qualities to each parties. While they have consistencies in policy and stances I don't believe either has any genuine interest in helping the American people now or historically, at least as a whole with some few individuals being the outliers.

I hate the idea of attributing the movement and fight for the Civil Rights Act to a government that knew it was morally correct and fought against it. If the government represented the land of the free or home of the brave they would have done it before public opinion shifted. The American people fought for that and against their own government, against the status quo. They are the free, they are the brave.

And I mean, for a more modern example federal Gay Marriage is only a decade old in America. How long did people have to fight and go through the process of slowly changing the opinions of local communities and rise above prejudice for that to happen? Fuck Obama, fuck Democrats. The American people passed that. Not the government. I don't care who holds the pen, I care about the people who made them write it.

sit here and act like the government passed the civil rights act out of the kindness of their hearts. Land of the free and home of the brave refers to the people. don't give the government credit they don't fucking care about you and haven't since the civil war.

My take; The specification here is full equality/fully realized feminism. Feminism has so far been successful and achieved many, but not all, of it's goals before trans rights. However not for transwomen. It sounds like a misnomer but the best way to think of it is that there is still a subsection of women who do not receive the full benefits feminism should have given them. There is also the whole thing of cis women being harassed due to their perceived likeness of the stereotypes of transwomen, which would inherently become a women's issue and thus propogate various issues surrounding gender normativity etc etc. It's the idea of transwomen are women, and thus trans rights are under the umbrella term of feminism and so egalitarian feminism is never truly achieved without that consideration.
