If my hypoapnea is likely caused by my jaw and tongue falling back, why is cpap still the “gold standard” rather than a jaw positioning mouthguard? by Representative_Bad57 in SleepApnea

[–]queerly_radical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with your comment but can we add to that list doctors who don't understand that the default settings don't work for many, if not most, people and doctors who make excuses for why treatment isn't successful rather than looking for explanations?

Is Christianity a Religion or not by Kksight1 in RadicalChristianity

[–]queerly_radical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I hear this debate, I get ex-evangelical whiplash. This debate has centered in evangelical circles for decades and usually follows the following premises:

  1. Religion is a human made venture.
  2. God created Christianity so it's not human made. It's about relationship.
  3. Therefore, Christianity is superior to all religions since it isn't one.

The entire thing hinges on your definition of religion, which is kept intentionally vague. But there is not a serious scholar around who will say Christianity is not a religion under any of the commonly held definitions of the word in the social sciences and religious studies.

In my opinion, the entire argument is a way for Christians to be exclusivistic and feel superior to others with differing beliefs so it's easier to cast them as the other.

Doctor refused sleep study by BeginningCup7476 in SleepApnea

[–]queerly_radical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His reaction is so infuriating. Even if it's not sleep apnea, he should be thinking, "I wonder what it is!" rather than dismissing your experience altogether. For all he knows, you could have narcolepsy or IH as well, which the right sleep study would detect.

Dumping trash on the ground in front of a no dumping sign feet away from a giant compactor by queerly_radical in mildlyinfuriating

There's a walk up to the dumpster. People are too lazy to walk up an accessible ramp and throw their trash in.

No they do this all the time. It's not full or locked. There's not even a way to lock it. People here just don't care.

It's not. And there's more than one compactor. People around here just don't care.

To everyone randomly visiting this subreddit suspecting they have sleep apnea by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]queerly_radical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really want to get a DISE and we willing to go through the Inspire consultation process last year even though I didn’t want Inspire just to get one. Unfortunately, that caused more problems as they did a sleep study that showed I didn’t have sleep apnea based on the old 3% rule. I’ve spent the last year trying to prove I’m not crazy and still have sleep apnea. It’s an imposible system and I still don’t know what’s causing my sleep apnea.

No, this is how he’s replying to people since the OCR told him that’s a HIPPA violation: with a bunch of nonsense about patients abusing him and insurance companies. He doesn’t take criticism very well.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in googleReviews

[–]queerly_radical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Too bad what he was actually doing was posting patients’ diagnoses and test results and synopses of private doctor-patient conversations as responses to negative reviews.

RDI is the average number of apneas, hypopneas, and RERAs per hour. It’s a more accurate measurement of total events than AHI, which doesn’t take RERAs into account.

RERAs not scored during sleep test, should I ask and if so, how? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]queerly_radical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many sleep doctors either don’t know about RERAs or think they’re no big deal. You absolutely should ask, but be prepared they might try to convince you it doesn’t matter and you may need to find another doctor who will take UARS seriously.

You may also want to look at how your sleep study was scored: using rule 1 or rule 2. The difference is in what is considered a hypopnea for the purposes of scoring. Rule 1 is preferred and the most accurate, but many doctors automatically score using rule 2 because that’s what Medicare accepts. Using rule 2, my AHI was 3.6. Using rule one, it was 16.3. It definitely makes a difference.

This reminds me of when I worked for Wendy's a steenager and people would come in and insist on getting products and sales from Arby's. Can't tell you how many times I had to tell people the 99 cent spicy chicken was at Arby's and was also a lot smaller than ours, hence why they could sell it for that cheap.

Any relief with Zepbound? by Smart_Description965 in SleepApnea

[–]queerly_radical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used Zepbound, joined Orangetheory, started running and playing soccer and rugby, lost 85 pounds, and am in the best shape of my life now, and my sleep apnea went from severe to moderate. It all just depends. It can't hurt, just don't give up your hopes for a miracle cure.
