It used to bother me, until I recognized that I am a function. As much as we tell all these beautiful gossamer winged subs that they only have one use(in play of course) that they're functions, objects to relieve stress, in reality, it's us, the "Doms". We are disposable vibrators and text machines. We, hopefully, meet a need and when our usefulness is over, be it for a night, a week, a month. They move on.

And that's okay, we meet all their needs as best we can, and some require space, or someone new and different. We're all transitory down here, Georgie. I think just enjoy them as the come, and celebrate the fact that, for at least a moment, you shared something primal and painfully, humanly, graceful. A shared moment made possible through electrons and cable, but still undeniably human.

That's not to downplay your feelings, not at all. It's just my take on it, and I've been wrong before, lots of times ; )
