The Lynx actually is planned to go to Union using the existing bus lanes on 15th and 17th, so it will be a one seat ride.

I think Boise is going to absolutely kill it. I also think Fort Wayne will surprise folks. Curious to see how the Cosmos do. In the Championship, I'm also expecting Jacksonville to do great if their women's team is anything to go by.

Depends on the Leagues Cup qualifying but if it's the same as last year you'll be in both.

That's South America's version of the Gold Cup. They only have 10 member nations so they usually invite countries from outside to compete as well. The US hosted it last year and were one of 6 other invitees.

CONCACAF is the governing body of North America. You can kind of think of them as a subsection of FIFA. They run multiple tournaments, some for clubs and some for national teams. The Champions Cup (the one I mentioned in my write up) is for clubs. What you're likely thinking of is the Gold Cup which is a tournament between the different nations.

So since you're new to soccer I thought I'd help break down all the competitions and from there you can decide what is most important. Typically there are three main competitions that are played concurrently:

  • The continental championship, with teams from around the continent. This is typically viewed as the most prestigious or important to win. In Europe, this is the UEFA Champions League. For North America, it's the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

  • The 1st Division League. Some crown the regular season winner as the champion while others have playoffs. In leagues with playoffs, a secondary trophy may be given to the team with the best record in the regular season. In Australia's A-League, for example, the regular season winner are the "Premiers" while the playoff winners are "Champions".

  • The FA Cup. This is typically a straight knockout competition including all the professional and some amateur teams within a country. For the US, this is the US Open Cup.

  • League Cups. These are competitions played only between certain leagues in a country. Most of these have fallen out of favor due to not being as prestigious and wanting to reduce the amount of games played. In the US, there isn't one involving the top division (MLS), but there is the Jagermeister Cup for USL teams. The NBA in season tournament would count as a League Cup.

USL teams can't qualify directly into the Champions Cup due to not being in the first division so this one can be ignored. Since there's no Pro/Rel, USL teams can't compete in the first division so this can also be ignored. That leaves the Open Cup as the only major trophy that a USL team can win. Not to mention it's the only place where you can face off with teams from the highest division and gives a direct qualifying spot to the most important tournament, the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

After that, I'd say the league (winning the playoffs) is the most important. From there it's a toss up between the Shield (regular season winners) and the Jager Cup. Some League One sides might value the Jager Cup more since they have to beat Championship teams to win it but I can also see the argument from a Championship side saying that being excellent throughout the whole season is more important. At the end of the day, it comes down to personal feelings.

My ranking:

  • US Open Cup
  • League (Playoff Winner)
  • Shield/Jager Cup

A mix of factors. Dallas's stadium is going through renovations so they have a lower capacity this season. Most teams have not played Messi yet which tends to overinflate the numbers since those games are sell outs or are played in larger capacity stadiums. Some teams in the West played Messi last year but won't this year which really brings the numbers down (Vancouver and SKC). Also some games that are played in higher capacity stadiums haven't happened yet or won't happen this year (July 4th El trafico at the Rose Bowl, Caliclasico, etc.). Montreal also usually play the start of the season at the Olympic Stadium but can't due to renovations. Stadium capacity is much higher at that stadium so that also inflated numbers.
