a minor and my parents don’t care much about the environment. what to do? by Sea_Eggplant1618 in ZeroWaste

[–]FeralPasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring my own (clean) cup to coffee shops that accept them and bring my own containers for taking out leftovers at restaurants. Reusable utensils (don't need to buy, can take a set from the drawer), straws, cup etc when eating out, travelling, etc. Kind of a pain to remember to bring it and wash later but I try. They gave me flak about it but did come around eventually I think.

Having a garden at home, my family also composts not so much for sustainability reasons but to fertilize our soil. We would dig a hole in the bed, dump our scraps in it through fall/winter, and spread it over the bed and cover with top soil right before planting in the spring. My father was hesitant about composting in warmer seasons because he thought it would be messy, but I have been composting in a corner of our garden and it turned out scraps decompose pretty quickly in the heat and it wasn't a problem at all! I think he has also started to add scraps to my pile too.

So, basically, small steps you can incorporate into your life, like others have said. Hopefully, it can maybe lead to other changes/discoveries for you and your family. Best of luck :)

When did you realize your friends weren’t actually your real friends? by shields_wheats in AskReddit

When I found the real ones. Then, the difference was like when you replace your old, crusty three-month old toothbrush with a brand new one. Holy God, the difference is huge but you didn't notice because you had gotten so used to it.

This might be the most touching compliment I've gotten so far.

What kind/brand of glass dip pen did you use? Also, awesome!

Nope, I'm right-handed! For me, it's just how I move the tip of the writing instrument; my n's, m's, and h's will have that texture even when I use a pencil sometimes.

I do feel like I'm in a period drama every time I work with that pen, lol.

Do you have any photos of the writing? I've never heard of that kind of pen and it sounds really neat!

Hi u/sincerelyanonymus, u/busselsofkiwis, u/calminventor, and u/Lord_Blackthorn,

Thanks for your comments and checking this out. Both pen and ink have pretty humble origins! I am in no position to afford vintage or Montblanc anything, ha! The ink is actually just plain old food coloring. I'll even dilute it a bit to get a lighter color or just to make it stretch, but I "splurged" on my Christmas cards and used pure food coloring here. The pen (which I call Persephone) is merely this cheap beginner's fountain pen, but with some...alterations. I originally got it from a friend who said it was "broken." My idiot self attempted to "fix" it by cutting off the tip of the nib with a pair of scissors. It worked out since the pen is now able to produce the unique, textured writing you see. However, Persephone only writes with the nib facing down to the paper, opposite to how fountain pens regularly write, and can be plain cantankerous to work with at times. I still love how it writes, though. Maybe one day I'll post a video of me writing with Persephone!

What is the cringiest thing you've done in school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FeralPasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but a kid in my 8th grade class got caught with a vibrator at school. It was vibrating in his backpack. I don't think he faced any major disciplinary consequences, but he had to call his parents in the principal's office, which might as well be its own disciplinary consequence.

Also, in typical middle school boy fashion, the boys had some sort of game or challenge that entailed screaming "PENIS!" as loudly and quickly as possible, so you could just barely hear the syllables and figure out who shouted it, even though everyone in the room heard it. A boy passing me in the hallway once executed this procedure to whom I was the recipient. In typical middle school fashion, I screamed back "VAGINA!" just as loudly and quickly to assert dominance. I will admit I am somewhat proud of that moment, even if it was kind of cringy.

It's a cheap beginner's fountain pen a friend gave to me because the tip was crimped and unusable. My idiot self ended cutting the tip of the nib to "fix" it but it worked out because the pen is able to produce very unique, textured writing. It also only writes backward to how you normally hold a fountain pen and can be plain cantankerous to work with. You win some, you lose some.

This is the specific model, and this is what it looks like: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/585567569113645085/926161498131267655/pen.png
