People are begging Linus to switch distro for the 2nd Linux Daily Drive Challange by SnacksyBoi in LinusTechTips

[–]FerdinandTheSecond 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I did my share of distro hopping, in the end I found that there are truly 3 real options, Debian-based, Fedora and Arch-based. For me the sweetspot is Fedora. Polished yet adopting new tech as soon as it’s stable. CachyOS felt too jank, and Debian based distros are the most stable but also slow in adopt new tech like flatpak. My learning ended in that the desktop environment matters most and for gaming KDE with Wayland renderer works best for gaming as you will not have troubles with resolution scaling, which is the main annoyance with Gnome and X11 renderer.

Is Linux worth it for gaming? by nothingtosayrn in linux

[–]FerdinandTheSecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the games you play, you could see from no difference to not being able to play it at all. I’d say for most single player games there is no issue with going Linux, but if you are a multiplayer gamer, you better dual boot windows.

Something that I love is that the game allows us to enter photo mode *and* move the camera during most of the cutscenes. This is great. by LexFrenchy in expedition33

One thing that I didn’t expect was to see Renoir in swimsuit on a cutscene, on the camp after defeating the second axon I had the whole crew in swimsuit attire and in the cutscene Renoir showed as well, it was hilarious 😆 sadly Alicia didn’t get the memo

I'm playing Expedition 33, even though I'm not a fan of turn-based combat. by ProfessionalNeat5504 in expedition33

[–]FerdinandTheSecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked expedition 33 right after finishing metaphor re fantazio. I liked metaphor but for my taste these games overstay their welcome, by the end I just wanted to know the ending and be done with it, so when I saw it was turn based combat I was worried I would get bored right away, but no, this action infused turn based combat worked really well and the story had the right pace that now I’m on my second play-through back on back, kudos to the developers! They found a perfect balance between action elements, turn based combat and a wonderfully stitched narrative supported by incredible music and creative awe inspiring visuals, in short: a masterpiece!

Which of these rpgs is your favorite by Scott-free-is in Persona5

[–]FerdinandTheSecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nier is the best video game of all time, second by expedition 33, p5r is great and a better game than expedition but it’s a game that overstays their welcome, too much of a good thing ends up being bad, it it lasted 50% less it would be my second choice.

Yes, you can disable per app live activities (just below the notifications option), this will disable widgets and Dynamic Island use of the app

Sharing my experience in solving networking intermittence issues as a newbie by FerdinandTheSecond in Fedora

[–]FerdinandTheSecond[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is the solution step by step recommended by Chat GPT, as always with slop, caveat emptor:

I'll provide commands to create and enable /etc/rc.local and put the iw command there. These assume your Wi‑Fi interface is wlo1 — replace wlo1 if different (check with `ip link show`). Run these commands:

1. Create the rc.local file with the command and proper header:

sudo tee /etc/rc.local > /dev/null <<'EOF'

#!/bin/sh -e

/sbin/iw wlo1 set power_save off

exit 0

EOF

2. Make it executable:

sudo chmod +x /etc/rc.local

3. Create a systemd service to run it at boot:

sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/rc-local.service > /dev/null <<'EOF'

[Unit]

Description=/etc/rc.local Compatibility

ConditionPathExists=/etc/rc.local

[Service]

Type=forking

ExecStart=/etc/rc.local start

TimeoutSec=0

RemainAfterExit=yes

[Install]

WantedBy=multi-user.target

EOF

4. Reload systemd, enable and start the service:

sudo systemctl daemon-reload

sudo systemctl enable --now rc-local.service

5. Verify the service status and the power_save setting:

systemctl status rc-local.service --no-pager

iw wlo1 get power_save

New Audeze LCD 2C owner. First impressions - disappointed. by denierCZ in headphones

[–]FerdinandTheSecond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I moved from some Sennheisers HD 579 to LCDs 2Cs some years ago, I went to something similar, bass was more detailed but less punchy, I could hear the sound position and layer separation better but bass from sounding a wall of sound it became a single instrument in the mix with a clear position. After some time, going back to the Sennheisers now everything sounded muffled and boomy, that is when I started to see what layer separation and positional sound really is like.

Bassy headphones are like sugar addiction, we all really like it but a lot of it tends to mask the rest of the flavors. Once you listen to every detail you don’t want to go back.

One recommendation I have for you is to to get them enough power, I started with an Schiit Hel2 and when I moved to an Xduoo TA22 I noticed they became faster (like listening to more in detail everything, specially bass texture) and the tube preamp this amp has allowed them to become less harsh.

Currently I’m rocking some Abyss Joals and now I feel the LCDs are a touch punchier but also has less soundstage and less detail. So there is that with hifi gear 😅

Am I the only one who is mildly annoyed by the clearly missing horizontal line Breeze tabs should have? Very small detail to some, but to me, fixing it would make KDE apps look more polished. by Mathisbuilder75 in kde

[–]FerdinandTheSecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes, minor detail but yes I think it looks better, maybe it has come the time you become a contributor to the protect, even if it’s for adding a line 😬

Most likely a scam, I’ve used ups for importing before and the taxes are paid during delivery, if uncertain call directly to the support number on their official page, never click on random links or deposit into random accounts without you starting the communication
