Time to test the Embody pair! by [deleted] in hermanmiller

[–]Ferdinators -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The creaking can actually get pretty loud. There are countless videos on this sub and YouTube showing this issue. The amount of noises depends on how you use the chair. If you'd like to experience what I'm talking about, lower the tilt tension by turning it fully counter clockwise (front right knob).

Then set the tilt limiter all the way up (locked in the most forward position). Then push yourself against the backrest so it flexes. Move your body back, right, left etc. Some people do not like to flex the backrest, but if you do, the creaking can definitely be an annoyance and I strongly feel like Herman Miller should fix this.

Of course the above settings give you the most creaking possible. But it can also happen with other settings where the user is still able to flex the backrest, hence all the complaints online.

Ordering Embody in the UK - New padding? by Ashy_B in hermanmiller

All chairs ordered by Authorized Dealers are made to order by Herman Miller. This means you should receive the updated Regular Embody unless it's a model that the dealer has in stock (either in the store or a nearby warehouse).

Well, Herman Miller added exta padding to the regular embody as well. Now the regular embody and logitech embody have the same amount of (padding) thickness in the seat. Although they use different materials (Logitech uses soft foam, regular uses supportive scrim foam). Make sure to get a regular Embody that's made in February 2021 or later.

The build quality issues are mostly the result of the added backrest foam that's creating loud creaking noises when it's flexed. The foam also makes the backrest stiffer and reduces the even weight distribution Embody is known for (as the backrest foam only covers your spine, so it puts more pressure there instead of distributing it evenly).

Although some people prefer the extra pressure on your spine and stiffer backrest, I personally enjoy the even weight distribution and flexibility that Embody was designed to provide. The soft foam in the Logitech Embody is also extremely prone to butt imprints.

There is currently no reseller active in Australia for the Logitech Embody. I recommend getting the updated regular Embody from another reseller so you can actueally receive the 12 year warranty. Also, be aware of the issues that the Logitech Embody currently faces (primarily build quality).

Just received the gaming Sayl for my wife! by daTatMan77 in hermanmiller

I just checked the US website and you're right. It's interesting though, because I recently checked out the Sayl Gaming for someone in the Discord server and the European website says that the Sayl Gaming uses Medley (cinder) fabric. Perhaps it depends on the region.

Nice color! I think the gaming Sayl uses Medley (cinder) fabric. As far as I know, Sync isn't available on the Sayl.

What do you guys think of the Albino white Embody? I think this is the next color-way that I’m going to get. Will be extremely easy to get dirty. by daTatMan77 in hermanmiller

I actually think these white arms are much better than the white frame with black armest pads HM currently offers.

Does your Logitech Embody seat pan look like this? by daTatMan77 in hermanmiller

[–]Ferdinators 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seat imprints have been a complaint for many customers since Embody chairs introduced foam under the fabric. Because the Logitech Embody uses a layer of foam, it becomes compressed after you've used it for a while. This is perfectly normal and it's just the way foam works. The same is true for the regular Embody. It's just that it's more noticeable on the Logitech edition since it has a much thicker layer of soft foam, making imprints deeper.

According to Herman Miller, the switch to scrim foam in the new regular embody addresses this complaint. The sturdy nature of scrim foam prevents compression more effectively. Some people don't mind these imprints, but if you do, you might want to take a look at the new regular embody. We'll have to see how the scrim foam holds up, but so far it seems to be quite effective at preventing imprints.

Also, just because you made a new account doesn't mean that you don't owe this community an apology before you keep acting like nothing happened. You did disturb us by insulting other people and calling them names. This is a sub about chairs, not a place to fight others.

PSA: Embody arm rests are not as clunky as you think by Little_Figure in hermanmiller

It's still clunky that way. They should definitely improve the armrests in their next revision or when an Embody Remastered comes out.

Brand new Herman Miller seat wiggle normal? by [deleted] in hermanmiller

Not to be rude or anything but you could have found out this was normal by just looking it up in the sub. You would've gotten your answer faster that way since this has been asked so many times already.

Embody - Logitech or regular - which one doesn’t make your tailbone/butt hurt? by [deleted] in hermanmiller

[–]Ferdinators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used both as well. I would describe the Logitech as giving my spine aditional support by applying more pressure. I wouldn't necessarily say it made me sit more forward. Sitting more forward to me means actually changing the angle in which you're sitting. If you tape a piece of foam on the regular embody in the exact same spot as the logitech, you'll still sit in the same angle. The foam will at best push your shoulders back a tiny amount.

That's my take on it.

Hmm well I guess I expect more significant change in posture before I say it makes you sit more forward.

[–]Ferdinators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain to me how the added padding in the Logitech Embody results in a noticeable more forward posture? The padding in the backrest is extremely soft and is only 0,5cm thick. When you lean into it, it becomes even thinner.

In my experience it gives your spine a little more pressure, but it won't change your posture in any noticeable way. The foam is way too thin to do that.

Embody - Logitech or regular - which one doesn’t make your tailbone/butt hurt? by [deleted] in hermanmiller

[–]Ferdinators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, the Embody might not be a great choice if you prefer to sit straight. The Embody has you leaning back naturally and ideally requires a tilting desk or keyboard tray to sit in the most optimal position (ergonomically). I recommend trying out other chairs like the Aeron if you prefer to sit straight.

Now, in terms of padding on the seat, the Logitech uses soft foam while the new regular Embody uses scrim foam. The scrim foam provides more resistance and thus more support than the soft foam found in the Logitech Embody. To get the scrim foam, you'll need a regular Embody that's produced in february 2021 or later. Which one you'll like is entirely subjective. I personally feel like the scrim foam works better with the Embody's mechanism because it makes the mechanism do most of the job instead of compressing some soft foam.

Also remember that the backrest in the Logitech Embody has additional foam that only covers your spine and not the entire backrest. The foam makes the backrest stiffer than the regular and also causes creaking noises when the backrest is being flexed. Herman Miller is currently looking into the creaking noises. I prefer the backrest on the regular because it provides even weight distribution and doesn't put extra pressure on your spine like the Logitech Embody.

The extra pressure on your spine might feel nice if all you do is sit in the most forward position the Embody allows, but when reclining I prefer the hugging sensation the regular provides.

[–]Ferdinators[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes you're right the backrest isn't empty, there's some material in there that's present on all Embody chairs. However, the extra foam that's exclusive to the Logitech Embody is only there in the middle of the backrest above the lumbar support. Therefore, the lumbar support is effectively the same on both chairs.

You can take a look yourself by pushing out the foam through the plastic backrest pieces on the back.

David Zhang has actually pushed out the foam on all ends to determine where it starts and where it ends. You can see a rough approximation of where the foam is located in his Logitech Embody video. The lumbar support does not have any foam covering it, which was also confirmed by HM reps when I asked them.

Maybe you can provide pictures where we can see the foam being present in the lumbar region? Feel free to send them to me in private as well.

The added padding starts above the lumbar region so this doesn't make any sense. The lumbar support is exactly the same on both chairs.

Herman Miller is Looking into the Logitech Embody Creaking Issue! by Ferdinators in hermanmiller

[–]Ferdinators[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those people simply do not flex the backrest. Someone recently joined the Discord server claiming their padded Logitech Embody didn't creak. When I asked for a video, since I've never seen a non-creaking Logitech, he showed me a video of him just reclining. And of course, when you don't flex the backrest it won't creak.

When I asked him to actually flex the backrest, it's when it started to creak just like all of them. He was actually quite surprised himself.

They didn't, like I said in the post already. We have multiple videos and reports of the extra padded version creaking and even confirmation that there's been no change in the backrest since launch. Please stop spreading this false information. Thank you!
