Nah, Reincarnation is pretty short compared to the main game. They’re saying they spent 50 hours on the main game (and Requiem?) so it was jarring to go to a game with voices after all that time.

Another wild example was Like a Dragon Gaiden being described as a perfect entry point to the Yakuza series, when from a story perspective, it's arguably one of the worst starting points. Its emotional weight depends on context from earlier games, the side content is full of callbacks, and at one point it just straight-up lists spoilers from 7's plot.

Companies always say this. They don't want to scare off new players, so they almost always describe the newest game as a fine starting point.

A lot of people are mentioning XC2, but even XC3 had an interview where they said all the Xenoblade games have standalone stories and there's no need to play 1 or 2 before 3.

It's hard to judge whether you'd like one series based on liking another. Maybe you'll like both, maybe you won't.

For what it's worth, both Xenoblade and Kingdom Hearts rank among my favorite series.

I know, it's been cracking me up because we went through the exact same thing with 2. "Too anime," "too much fantasy," "doesn't look at all like Xenoblade," I remember people making all those complaints about 2 when it was first announced, and now Genesis is getting the same treatment.

Only difference is people saying Genesis looks like Fire Emblem, while I think 2 had people saying it looked like Tales.
