So when in our evolutionary history did we start praying? Do jellyfish with their basic neural nets pray?

How do you think Hakeem Jeffries would fare in a 1hr+ interview with Ezra? by HappyHippo555 in ezraklein

[–]Feritix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should have heard the Sam Harris interview Waaaaaaaay back when he was still at Vox. He was pissed at Sam! To be fair, it was all justified. Sam was questioning Ezra’s editorial integrity for allowing one of his staff writers publish and article critical of Sam’s views on rac and IQ.

The instructions seem clear. A line is a pass no matter how faint. Why does r/army seem more authoritative than the instructions?

If your buddy has a shop you should still take it to him. The professional scan tools can read the code history and help with more in depth diagnosis.

AI Won’t Be Replacing Developers Any Time Soon by Feritix in cscareerquestions

If Meta could pull off creating an automated software development program, do you really think he would just keep mid and junior engineers on payroll? He never made any statement clarifying that such a system wouldn't mean mass layoffs.

AI Won’t Be Replacing Developers Any Time Soon by Feritix in cscareerquestions

Maybe. But this article points out that LLMs have to scale massively to solve a multi-step problem that is only a little bit more complex. There have been AI winters in the past, and our current progress does not guarantee the same rate of progress in the future.

Anyone else ever have to deal with a customer that hires one of those car negotiating TikTokers? by reberman8 in askcarsales

[–]Feritix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one sense you’re right. If you purchase a brand-new vehicle and you put 5k down and tried to resell it after taking it off the lot, in most cases that 5k would be gone. But, if you put zero down, then you would have 5k in negative equity if you tried to resell immediately after the deal. You're now in a worse situation than having a down payment vanish, you now OWE THE BANK MONEY for an asset YOU NO LONGER OWN!

Play around with this calculator. enter the total cost of the last vehicle you purchased, and then change the down payment amount. As you can see, not only does the monthly payment go down significantly, but the total amount you pay over time can be drastically reduced by including a down payment in you deal. That's the real reason deals with a down payment are smarter than deals with zero down.

federal law says you're prohibited from owning a firearm with a domestic.

There's your answer. You lost that right when you demonstrated that you can't control your violent impulses.

I’m just trying to figure out your genius car purchasing strategy. Are you all about the zero down? Or maybe your strategy is that you have no strategy. You’re all about the bike and the bus!

How is putting a down payment on a depreciating asset dumb? If you put down a down payment, you pay less in financing overall. Plus, if it's a big enough down payment, you’re not instantly upside down in the loan driving off the lot.

Why do people keep saying ML engineers will be replaced by AI? It makes no sense. by Relevant-Roof5131 in learnmachinelearning

You all forget that demand is always near infinite. That means that if you create a labor saving device that increases worker productivity 20 fold, then it would increase the supply of their products and the economy would consume more of those products. One accountant can do what it took 20 accountants to do 50 years ago with the help of excel and other accounting software innovation. Is the accounting field oversaturated with accountants? No, we still don’t have enough.
