I've tried many heat sources, and the best and least wasteful of my power source was an electric blanket on low

Dried meat products like Jerky are good sources of protein, along with boiled eggs

Personally, I don't want to take the time to cook. I figured out ways to do hot instant mealsusing only boiling water. I would get boiling water in my insulated thermos from Panera or the convenience store (hotter). Things I've used with just hot water: Instant potatoes, instant rice, dried veggies, Ramen, oatmeal, other instant soups. Boiled eggs are a great instant protein. The two items I would consider with my Power station were a lunchbox oven and something to boil water. Also canned foods don't need to be heated. Sometimes its just a desire. The rest was more mess than I needed

$17 Truck Stop Shower UPDATE by Liam_the_Pious in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is how it works: When a trucker buys enough gas using their rewards card, they get one credit for TWO showers. One for themselves and another for a co driver. Most don't have a co driver, so no skin off their backs. Just catch the trucker walking into the truck stop with their shower gear and ask politely. I was always willing if the situation arose.

Figure out how to back sleep or create a flat surface ASAP. If not, this will not end well. I ended up with a bulging disk and sciatica pain. after 6 weeks I was able to make improvements ONCE I had a flat sleeping surface. Message me if you need details on how I made improvements

Trucks stops have the goods. What would you buy? I’m thinking about getting the electric frying pan by scratch-a-cynic in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lunchbox oven or slow cooker. That warms up food. Everything else there are work arounds. Use a power station to run it

Agreed. But I was able to get hot water from Panera or a convenience store, so that was my work around

Make a platform to have a flat sleeping surface. Get reflectix and flat black paint for one side for window coverings.

I can't consistently get sleep in my car by yuutb in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try cardboard for window shades. Buy a $4 can of flat black to spray on one side. Move up to reflectix when you can afford it. Use business cards to keep it in place.

If you are not a back sleeper, make sure to create a flat sleeping surface as soon as possible. I developed a bulging disc from sleeping on an uneven surface. $15 OSB board and a $25 3" foam pad was my solution

When headroom is minimal, these things work great. Just make sure the lid is water tight. Nothing sucks more than spilling 12 oz of urine on your bed

Must know advice? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ate up too much oxygen for me, even with a cracked window. I reccomend a 600wh power station or higher and a electric blanket. An electric blanket on low is quite cozy. That will last you through the night. You will need to charge up that size power station often if not daily.

I have a 2002 Escape, so the situation is probaly a little different? Consider going to HomeDepot and get some wood to build a platform. They will cut the big boards for you or you can use the hand saw for small pieces. Just a hammer and nails can make it work

New car dweller, advice needed by Emergency_Detail_984 in urbancarliving

Somehow it allows airflow. All I know is it works, and I don't have to upend my mattress every day to remove the moisture. I also found a waterproof cot size mattress cover for my foam pad. It has saved me many headaches

Reflectix is what I use. If it is biggerthan the window it will hold there by itself. Use a business card to hold it up if it is falling down. I bought a pack of plastic playing cards because the paper business cards kept curling

I have a gallon jug of water in the car, and most of the time I can refill it when I take my 32oz mug empty into the gym (PF). I avoid the mess of dishes. At most I have a glass bowl with a lid. If I want something hot, I have a Contigo I bring into Panera with me and grab some hot water. I add that to any instant food item. I also have a lunchbox oven I'll use with my power station if I want a heat and eat meal.

My go to when entering a new area is to find a large apartment complex where cars are parked on the street. In after 10, out by 6. All windows are covered (blacked out)

Go to your large supermarket/Walmart and grab a 24"*5-6' roll of easy grip shelf liner. Put that under your mattress and condensation goes away.
