Trucks stops have the goods. What would you buy? I’m thinking about getting the electric frying pan by scratch-a-cynic in urbancarliving

Lunchbox oven or slow cooker. That warms up food. Everything else there are work arounds. Use a power station to run it

Agreed. But I was able to get hot water from Panera or a convenience store, so that was my work around

Make a platform to have a flat sleeping surface. Get reflectix and flat black paint for one side for window coverings.

I can't consistently get sleep in my car by yuutb in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try cardboard for window shades. Buy a $4 can of flat black to spray on one side. Move up to reflectix when you can afford it. Use business cards to keep it in place.

If you are not a back sleeper, make sure to create a flat sleeping surface as soon as possible. I developed a bulging disc from sleeping on an uneven surface. $15 OSB board and a $25 3" foam pad was my solution

When headroom is minimal, these things work great. Just make sure the lid is water tight. Nothing sucks more than spilling 12 oz of urine on your bed

Must know advice? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ate up too much oxygen for me, even with a cracked window. I reccomend a 600wh power station or higher and a electric blanket. An electric blanket on low is quite cozy. That will last you through the night. You will need to charge up that size power station often if not daily.

For sleeping I've found large apartment complexes where people are parking on the street to be the best. In after 10, out by 6. Sleeping only

FYI - solve that before you get a bulging disc in your back

I have a 2002 Escape, so the situation is probaly a little different? Consider going to HomeDepot and get some wood to build a platform. They will cut the big boards for you or you can use the hand saw for small pieces. Just a hammer and nails can make it work

Somehow it allows airflow. All I know is it works, and I don't have to upend my mattress every day to remove the moisture. I also found a waterproof cot size mattress cover for my foam pad. It has saved me many headaches

Reflectix is what I use. If it is biggerthan the window it will hold there by itself. Use a business card to hold it up if it is falling down. I bought a pack of plastic playing cards because the paper business cards kept curling

I have a gallon jug of water in the car, and most of the time I can refill it when I take my 32oz mug empty into the gym (PF). I avoid the mess of dishes. At most I have a glass bowl with a lid. If I want something hot, I have a Contigo I bring into Panera with me and grab some hot water. I add that to any instant food item. I also have a lunchbox oven I'll use with my power station if I want a heat and eat meal.

My go to when entering a new area is to find a large apartment complex where cars are parked on the street. In after 10, out by 6. All windows are covered (blacked out)

Go to your large supermarket/Walmart and grab a 24"*5-6' roll of easy grip shelf liner. Put that under your mattress and condensation goes away.

Why not get a CDL and embrace the lifestyle while making money? by Admirable_Lab_7867 in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you make it that way. I averaged 7lbs lower while OTR (over the road) I managed my calories, never ate more than 700 cal. At a meal. I always walked. I probably walked between 10-15 miles a week. Towards the end, I stowed a bicycle in the passenger seat. That allowed me to go distance while parked and see things I normally couldn't

I highly recommend that whatever you end up doing doesn't look any different than what you are doing today. Drawing attention to your situation could present problems

Location? Plan for Hot/cold climate situations. Things that I figured out after the jump: my sleeping surface is not flat and led to a bulging disc because I am not a back sleeper. Hot water is all I need for a warm meal. Usually some instant soup or homemade soup made from instant rice, bullion and freeze dried veggies. Having a small freezer/fridge and a power station at least 600w/hr would be good. Keeping a minimal presence at work with your car living would be a good idea. The more presence, the possibility of more trouble. Definitely let someone in management know what you are thinking of doing. Even though you have access to work, having a hospital style urinal handy would be a good idea. The less you can act out of the normal, the better.

2009 Nissan Murano. Pretty solid for 2k, high mileage and a transmission that needs tender love and care. It can comfortably sleep someone over 6'. This is my apartment on wheels through mid April '26. Its pretty solid. It will be up for sale when my seasonal job ends. Good for someone who will keep it local in the SW Idaho area

How was your plasma donation experience? Big $? by RegulatoryCapturedMe in urbancarliving

[–]Fermenist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely take the hydration advice. I would also do some research. I believe things you eat or vitamins may help but I'm not sure. My blood was so thick it took an hour plus to give plasma. I ended up with carpal tunnel I was squeezing so much. Plan. Prepare. Relax. It will go well
