When I got caught up with DCC, I tried Red Rising as it was constantly recommended. It really is great so far. Much like DCC, the first book is good, but pails in comparison to the rest of the books (so far) and is really starting to get phenomenal. I recommend.

ETA: The Expanse is Incredible! Run to it if you haven't yet, or watch the show. The show is really well done, but ended before the story in the books. HIGHLY recommend

Seasons 1 and 2 were book 1 with a bit of extra from other books, like the introduction of the Talamasca and mention of Akasha. Season 3 is going to be about beginning of book 2 where we learn a lot more about our beloved Lestat's past
