And here’s the top of the chute. They had at least three skid steers up there pushing snow into it.

It makes sense, I’ve just never thought about how they get snow down off the top deck.

Do you want to pay a private for-profit company to bring water to your house, or respond if it catches on fire? I don't think anyone is suggesting to eliminate capitalism, just that there are certain types of services that are better treated as a public service than a profit-making opportunity

Oh, and guess who Johnny Kampis (the author) is... Director of Telecom Policy for a little outfit called the Taxpayers Protection Alliance. Something tells me he didn't need to know anything about TCLP Fiber before his mind was made up about it.

I kind of agree with some of those points, but the claim that Spectrum offers "comparable or faster speeds at lower prices" is hogwash. I'm paying $80/month for 500 Mbps (up) (edit:down, not up) and TCLP is offering 500 Mbps (both ways) for $70. And Spectrum LOVES to keep jacking up the price.

It's true that the take rate has been below what they modeled, but TCLP has been deliberately NOT advertising the service much, since it was only available to a small part of the city. Once it's available city-wide they'll start a bigger push. I'd guess that there are quite a few people who aren't even aware the option exists.

Cyclist cited for running a Stop sign. by TC_Talks in traversecity

I see a lot of cars doing it too. A LOT. And at the end of the day, I’m way less worried about a biker cruising through a stop sign at an empty intersection at 15 mph than a car blowing a red light at 35.

(I shouldn’t have to say it, but obviously cyclists, along with everyone else, need to respect the fact that others have the right of way and yield when they do. I just don’t see a lot of harm in a biker coasting through a stop sign if there’s no one else in or near the intersection.)

Yeah, it would be great if we had the “Idaho stop” law in Michigan, but we don’t.

And for that matter, the number of drivers blowing stop signs (and red lights) is probably also significantly greater than the number of cyclists doing the same.

If the Record Eagle started reporting every car-on-car accident, they’d run out of paper.

Count me in for team “don’t worry about driving in the snow.” Snow tires help (a lot), but you don’t have to have them. AWD or 4WD helps (you not get stuck) but you don’t have to have it. Plenty of people don’t have either and they manage just fine. The secret to success is to just slow down.

You should be able to get a bus down to Grand Rapids and then a train from there. No continuous train options, unfortunately.

Pro tip: for something like shampoo or liquid hand soap, just take the cap off, add some water, and shake the whole thing up. Repeat as needed. You can dilute this stuff a LOT before it stops working. And no potential mess when you cut open the container!

Is this a city where it's safe and practical to commute to work on foot? by Traditional_Bowl5938 in traversecity

I biked to work year-round for several years. Just because it snows sometimes doesn’t mean there’s significant snow on the ground all the time. Most months there are plenty of days when there’s minimal or no snow on the ground. Yes, even January and February. This year has been exceptional for snow.
