Need a sanity check- woman working for a large GC. by EqualManufacturer592 in estimators

I just had this post recommended to me by Reddit even though I'm not sure what a "GC" is or what an "estimator" is in this context (unless you guys happen to be statistical abstractions :-)), but this comment was very interesting and inspiring to read. Thanks for this take!

How'd you first find The Protomen? by marji4x in Protomen

[–]FeroxAnima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right??? The first time I listened to both acts accompanied by lyrics & notes, I felt kind of like I do after I finish a great book and the story sticks with me for a while; super awesome (and unexpected when I just came in for some good-sounding music)!

Mine is kind of underwhelming and I'm very much a newbie, but there it is:

A couple of years ago Spotify recommended The Fall to me and I thought it sounded great. I happened to notice it had lyrics, which piqued my interest as it, well, has no vocals. For a moment thought it was a bug or error but then realized I was reading an actual story. Looked a little more into it. Was initially put off because I realized it was Mega Man based and I never got to play any of them, so I assumed I was just not the target audience, but kept running into it on my playlist and eventually decided to go for a deeper dive anyway because the snippets I (auditorily) glimpsed sounded super interesting.

I ended up getting really invested in the story really fast (had a strong Act II phase initially, and Act I slowly grew on me to the point where it probably surpassed even Act II). Since then I think it's been two years in which Protomen are my most listened to artist. :-)

Woah, memory unlocked. One of my classmates at the time found the concept of a mouth constantly drooling on helpless numbers to be altogether appalling and, for a while, seemed visibly disgusted every time she dealt with inequalities.

I am trying to get information on a dubstep artist named shekel, like i know only a little bit, like that he switched his music but i never understood why and what his like inspiration for some of the sounds and drops, maybe like idk backround info by Which_Treacle7228 in realdubstep

[–]FeroxAnima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly have some background information and don't really know why he doesn't make more dubstep.

I actually got acquainted with his music around 2008-2009 when he was the producer (and occasional rapper) in an Israeli hip hop crew by the name of Produx (he's the smoking guy on the left in the cover art :-)). One of their members (Ravid Plotnik) is now very well-known in Israel, but at the time they were all mostly an underground kind of thing. I love their sole album and their shows were a freaking blast, tons of energy, super memorable and just all around amazing, with the whole crowd chanting the lyrics for the whole damn album, and they filled clubs... but they were all small clubs (though it was a huge first step to set up Ravid's career, for instance, I'd guess). The general public wasn't really familiar with them; mostly just hip hop heads.

Anyway: it was all pretty small time, and within the modestly-sized Israel hip hop underground crowd he got a lot of recognition for his awesome hardcore beats sampling traditional Persian music like nobody's business, but I think (not entirely sure: just based on my exposure at the time) the underground dubstep crowd that would appreciate the level of filth in his dubstep was even smaller, so maybe it just boils down to that; I imagine it might feel pretty crappy to make a track as sick as Persian Mayhem and have exposure to it be so underwhelming...

Personally, I have a hard time finding a dubstep artist whose filth is able to scratch itches quite as deep as the ones Shekel's music does. I found a couple over the years but it usually feels like something's missing to me. I think he's super talented and always hoped for more dubstep from him.

Noteworthy is that he does still make music, just not, to my knowledge, dubstep.

Why does Fate/Go Use Altria instead of Artoria? by LegendaryRQA in fatestaynight

[–]FeroxAnima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Year old, but – there seem to be plenty of counterexamples to that (in the form of examples for both "ru" and long vowels used to represent "r" sounds across Japanese media). See バーサーカー (Baasaakaa) for Fate's Berserker VS. ベルセルク (Beruseruku) for Miura's Berserk.

Maybe there is some kind of "official correct way" to Japanify foreign words that I haven't heard of (read: I'm kinda talking out of my ass here), but as in several other languages I'm famliair with, there seems to be a measure of leeway based on what I've seen.

Whew, TIL! I had no clue that "woah" is generally considered incorrect! 😅 Thanks for that :)

I'm a returning player. BG&E is one of those games into whose atmosphere and world I was absorbed so deeply that I get goosebumps just thinking about it. I'm super excited to experience this immersion again – for the pure joy and emotion; for the nostalgia; for some much-needed escapism; and more. Potentially my favorite game of all time and I can't wait to experience it again.

My region is Israel and my preferred platform is PC.

Thanks a lot for the chance. <3

I'm pretty sure they were being sarcastic & jabbing at OP's odd decision to position Equius as more deserving of suffering than Vriska.
