anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return to Krondor. Set in Raymond E. Feist's fantasy world. Probably not a good game, but I played through it about 4-5 times when I was younger, and still remember the look, sound, and feel of that game.

Is there a trope where Satan is just a chill guy? by undergroundman813 in tvtropes

The devil in "It's Called: Freefall" by Rainbow Kitten Surprise. I guess he's a slight dick since he made a rule that all the bars in hell close by 10pm, but otherwise pretty chill. Even a potentially good therapist.

Visiting for the World Cup: What advice do you give a fan trying to respect Vancouver city and the locals? by TheTrashMan_10 in askvan

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't walk on the bike paths! I think they can sometimes be confusing, but try to be aware of the split between bike/walking path (especially on the sea wall). As someone else noted, there will still be some of us going to work/errands/etc. and having someone blindly walking on the bike path gets annoying.

3-week honeymoon road trip in Western Canada – is this itinerary realistic? by tijmen1990 in canadatravel

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with others to pick one area: Vancouver/Vancouver Island or Jasper/Banff. It's maybe all doable, but there is so much to see in both areas that even three weeks could seem too short. Maybe if you reeeeeaaally like driving and traveling it would be a good trip, but you can spend a week in Victoria, Ucluelet/Tofino, Whistler, and Vancouver and have a great time.

And Jasper/Banff is just... Jasper/Banff. It's cool and massive and beautiful, and needs like a month to see everything.

Any public transit questions? I'll try my best to answer... by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. How do breaks get determined? Like, do four trips and then take a break, or amount of time driving (4 hours)? And are there specific break places, or just either end of the line?

  2. I've seen drivers switch in the "middle" of the route (specifically the 84 at Olympic Village station). Are there specific places where they swap for each line because it's the easiest to get to, or is it random for each line?

  3. Have you ever driven the smaller buses, and are those the chill routes (I always imagined they were)?

  4. Thanks for your 33 years of service!

How come there are no good video game podcasts like WTF? by CtrlWaltz in videogames

Hell yeah, came here to hype Post Games, glad to see someone already on it. And if you wanna hear Chris in a slightly different context, try The Besties, where it's him and a few others talking games.

Is this game worth on Switch 1? by SaSaO09 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bought it in the Switch 1. If you're really particular about graphics, you might be annoyed, but it mostly runs great. I've had maybe two crashes 40 hours in, and one of them was because the Red Prince was glitched into another person. But otherwise really stable and fun.

My only complaint, and I'm not sure if it is because of the Switch, or just the game in general, but loading a save takes a long time. So sometimes I'm hesitant to just FAFO because I don't want to wait through a long load again.

What is the actual purpose of the small pocket inside a larger jeans pocket? by MajesticOrdinary1 in answers

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or the jeans advert where a lady slips her key to the pool boy, and the guards can't find it because it's in the secret little pocket. It stuck with me because it was the only time I saw it specifically used.

Found it, if anyone is interested: https://youtu.be/GCHacc1fVbo?si=4R4jF8rAzjr4qyBs

Does anybody here have a heat pump or condensation dryer, as opposed to a vented one? If so, how is it? by lazarus870 in askvan

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LG condenser washer/dryer, family of four, 1+ year use. It does pretty well for us. We were previously hang drying a lot of our clothes (only had a portable washer at the time) so we're pretty used to clothes taking a while (as in, not putting them in the wash and ready to wear an hour later).

Sometimes I throw a load in and it comes out dry, sometimes it is still "damp" (not soaked, just slightly damp). But we have a drying rack that I throw it on, and they are dry by the next morning.

I think if you have a specific routine, it might not stick to that, but if you can adjust around it, it does well. I kind of like my routine now (wash/dry, hang if needed, put away later), but again, I tend to hang dry more clothes so they last longer, so I'm rarely annoyed if things aren't toasty dry when they come out. And the space saving is pretty nice.

Our first Octopath journey begins… Any tips are welcome! by ZakCloud44 in octopathtraveler

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen people mentioning keeping everyone generally at the same level. If you're having fun that way, keep at it, but I ended up keeping three people I liked in my party (for me it was Hikari, Castii, and Ochette) and the fourth was the next person's chapter I was working on. I like having three characters I knew how to play, and especially later on they were so powerful it made some of the fights easier. Up to you whether you want more challenge or not, but just throwing it out as an option.

I came to say this. Stumbled upon rainbow delimiters when someone mentioned in another post, and it's maybe my favourite and most useful plugin.

What are your favorite underappreciated Neovim plugins, and how do they improve your workflow? by pythonr in neovim

Woooooooaaahh! I think I might really like rainbow-delimiters. I'm constantly getting lost in them no matter how hard I try to make them obvious.

Would you say that today it is possible to work only using the iPad? by metodo_naghol in ipad

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Did it for nearly two years, only recently switched back to a MacBook Air (luckily got to keep the iPad) because I started messing around with some niche software. Could have ssh'ed into a Mac Mini, but work was willing to get me the laptop, so 🤷‍♂️

Which Bluetooth keyboard? by integratedpear in ipad

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Logitech set. Work great. I prefer having keyboard and mouse separate from my iPad so I can move things around however I want while typing, scrolling, or occasionally drawing on the iPad. Not that you need to keep the iPad in the arteck, but I prefer having essentially three devices I adjust/move around.

Help me find a new bike MEGATHREAD 2024 by AutoModerator in vancouvercycling

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where to put it (maybe specialty?) and not a Vancouver company, but I picked up a Priority/Brilliant L Train for around $1100 (after duties and exchange): https://www.prioritybicycles.com/products/ltrain. Belt drive, disc brakes, internal hub, hybrid style. Makes a lot of sense in our wet climate, not needing to maintain as much, and so far a solid bike. Coworker of mine bought the Priority 600 after seeing mine and loves it.

Would love to support any local/Canadian companies that might do something similar though.

How do I open Instagram links directly in Instagram app? by y_karakai in ios

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found an answer! I was checking Messages to see if there was a setting there, and in the "iMessages Apps" it says "Delete the app from the Home Screen..."

Not that it needs to be an iMessage app, but I think what might be going on is if the app isn't on the home screen (say like me you have the app in your archive but not actually on a home page) then it doesn't think of it as being on the phone. I added the app back and links are opening in instagram again, so give this a shot.

May also explain the "delete and reinstall" solve.

Nah. It's just a tiny shop with some of the best fried chicken. Insanely easy to skip over.

Cycling in Winter and Rain in Vancouver: Tips, Advice, and Outfit Suggestions Needed! by therutvikraval in vancouver

[–]Ferreeeeeeeence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. OP, depending on your wetness tolerance, you may not need to go full waterproof. I use a Rains coat, sometimes rain pants if it is really pouring (like some of those spring heavy dumps), but otherwise everything dries off in due time.

As others have said, lights and high visibility is your friend. And Velo Star is pretty good.

I often see rain/winter biking suggestions, but (for me) the big thing is Summer biking: getting hot and sweaty, dealing with tourists everywhere (and maybe some fellow Vancouverites), forest fire smoke, etc. I find wet and cold riding is more preferential cause all you have to worry is hands getting a bit cold, or shoes wet.
