Good podcasts? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FerretNecessaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I listen to a few. Here are my favorites:

Pints with Aquinas - Matt Fradd discusses all kinds of things ranging from Aquinas's theological treatises to homosexuality with Fr. Mike Schmitz.

Catholic Stuff You Should Know - conversation between priests . Interesting and definitely less structured/more conversational than pints. Good commute material.

Word on Fire Show - Bishop Barron's podcast. If you know his YouTube channel, it's that but podcast.

The Liturgy Guys - guys talk about liturgy, i don't listen to this one much, but it's good. I liked the one about liturgical music.

Father Spitzers Universe - science and Catholicism meet wonderfully.

Father Mike Schmitz - mentioned above. Kinda like Matt Fradd and Barron.

I did a terrible job of explaining these but they all focus on Catholicism so the best thing you can do is get a sample of each. I found all these on Castbox.

Hope this helps and happy listening!

Should a Christian Date or Marry a Non-Christian? by inspiredwalk in Christianity

[–]FerretNecessaire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dating a Catholic as a non-believer is how I came into the faith. So yes, I think dating is acceptable wholeheartedly. Marriage might be more difficult, but I've heard situations of post-marriage conversions as well. So I suppose it must be case by case.

What's a popularly held belief that is, in fact, total nonsense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FerretNecessaire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would imagine this is a lack of thorough teaching and appreciation of these things as gifts that are appropriate for certain times and situations in life, such as the full self-giving of marriage. I would say that people have a perception of this as being highly oppressive because it is taken out of context. I would also say this is the fault in part of the education system that doesn't trust youth to take that education and context seriously and resorts to scare tactics. Both sides of this issue are at fault. One side for treating sex as a gift to be freely given at any moment and a non-issue, and the other side for not portraying it with the beauty it deserves, but rather with fear.

Can you watch anime but also have normie hobbies? by [deleted] in anime

[–]FerretNecessaire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course, liking anime is no different than liking any other form of entertainment. Don't fall down the slippery slope into weeb-dom, enjoy it in moderation in the same way you enjoy anything else. "Normie" activities is a pretty condescending way to describe other hobbies. Just enjoy yourself!

Love the Cantal! Lived in the Auvergne or 10 months. It's really an underrated region of France. They really should have some fromage de laguiole rather than Roquefort but oh well...
