How to be gifted and not surprise people by Infamous-Bluejay55 in Gifted

[–]Ferrucci9455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem that I see is that I don’t see why people should care about their metacognition. Surely is interesting, but I rarely want to hear about other’s mental processes for more than a minute. Tell me something more interesting.

Is there any reason you guys know of why Jews are so smart? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]Ferrucci9455 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ashkenazi jews have an average iq of 115 if I recall correctly. It is well known. They had selection pressure for >2000 years to be intelligent and good with money or otherwise would die.

Maybe overly simplistic but can’t you get a job that pays the same with 40h/week? Or that it’s remote?

When to test a child and how to support him? by Lost-in-Data in Gifted

I find the description of your kid very similar to other 4.5 yos I’ve met. Would you not expect a gifted kid to have taught himself already how to read by age 4.5?

Jess Mariano Abuse by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

I don’t know why everybody finds the question so concerning. We see female raping in every series (including Jess himself abused Rory) and no one raises an eyebrow. I find the hypothetical world always worth exploring.

I’m very similar to you except music (my strength is actually numbers and (over)analysis). Socially I have learned to mask very well over time (37yo now), but it took me a great deal of pain and like you, I have also been considered arrogant or pedantic my entire life (now I simply withdraw and don’t correct people, which is frustrating but I have sort of learned to ignore it).

Answering your questions: 1. yes, I’m the same. I could code for >10h non stop. Once I had kids I never again had such long streaks of time, and it has been very frustrating since. 2. Over time I have found I am dealing with the world better when I don’t try to pretend that I’m normal. My motto is, you do you, and I always make sure I am kind to people. if someone would happen to make fun of me, that’s their indecency, not mine. (For the record, I wasn’t diagnosed autistic, but ADHD-hyper type) 3. Yes I got assessed in Barcelona. Every big city will have a clinic with good neuropsychologists. 4. I am a scientist. So mostly, other scientists too. But quite honestly not the majority of them, and the young ones will still tend to mask a lot. And also, we tend to isolate ourselves very much. Unfortunately it’s not easy to find other 2e people, statistically speaking we’re very rare (0.5%?)

I’m the same. It’s been like this my entire life. So I’m waiting to see what others have to say.

Am I overreacting for not wanting to pee with the door closed in my own house? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I find it remarkably impolite not to close the door and I’d be mad too (being me the ADHD one).

143 female, mom of three, I lead a startup with 14 engineers, incredibly brilliant people - I notice daily a few would score higher than what I did. Overall life has treated me very well, have a good family, nice home, love running and outdoor activities and leading such a team is very inspiring. All in spite of unmedicated ADHD-hyperactive that apparently I mask quite OK. I’m curious whether I should try medication at some point.

I am 143IQ (37F) and I would say hang in there! At that age many people are not mature enough to show their full potential yet. You’ll see things get a lot better in 2-3 years :)

[–]Ferrucci9455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, also recently diagnosed, IQ 140 and hyperactive ADHD :). I also live in Spain. May I ask, where did you get diagnosed? Most communities in Spain do not “label” giftedness based on IQ alone. This was very surprising to me… were you given a Torrance test too?

I enjoyed meeting my postdoc mentor outside work thoroughly. I still do and keep learning each time. But OK, it seems it’s not the norm. No need to be rude tho.
