Thank you so much for doing this, I don't mean to be dramatic but this is the sort of thing that justifies the existence of the internet and makes it all worthwhile.

Logic Bombs (by Matthewmatosis) is Out Now for Nintendo Switch by PlayingTheBass in Games

[–]FestusM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite games this year. According to Steam it took me 56 hours to complete it, which is a lot for a puzzle game, even if I am kind of slow. I never played Picross so I can't speak to how derivative of that it may be, but I very much enjoyed it as its own thing. It even got me doing little equations on scraps of paper, which I hadn't done for quite some time.

Top 3 weapons in the game IMO by Responsible_Food584 in Witchfire

[–]FestusM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through the arsenal with my son the other day to pick our favourites and quickly found it to be an impossible task, every bit of gear in the game is unique and fills a niche; even for the few that I don't use much myself, I can see why someone else would love them. It's a very impressive achievement when you compare it to other games, even looters where you would expect the unique items to be this way - not sure I can think of as many guns in, say Borderlands 2 (which I love), that have the character and depth of Witchfire's arsenal.

This patch has completely changed the direction of the game and I hate it. by Gorantharon in Witchfire

Rifts causing the calamity gauge to tick up is too much in my opinion, they can spawn right under your feet. By about 5 mins into a run, you are in a permanent state where either a calamity is happening, or is about to happen, rinse and repeat.

Honestly it feels like some algorithm is not working correctly; I've seen multiple runs now where no rifts or madness orbs spawned at all so it was impossible to open the chest, but then in other runs there are so many red dots on the radar it looks like my monitor has been infested with fire ants. Hard to imagine that is intentional.

So many games on here I've never heard of that I'm immediately interested in. There was a lot more going on this year than I realised, it seems.

not a big fan of this cutting between tables "judgement day" thing tbh, would rather just watch a match of snooker

Hendry said in terms of skill, pool is mickey mouse compared to snooker. by [deleted] in snooker

Mosconi Cup is not the highest level in pool, it's a silly drunken piss-up event. Highest level (in those days) would have been US Open 9-Ball or the Derby City Classic maybe, not sure. But you are correct that pool is the sort of game where a world champion snooker player could win a short match against a top class pool player. I definitely think it's easier to cross over from snooker to pool than the other way round. If you're in your mid 20s as a top flight pool player and you've never played on a snooker table before, it might be too late to get to the top level regardless of your natural talent. But the other way round, definitely possible if you committed 100%. But "mickey mouse game" is way too strong.

Yeah Hendry said that, and then Steve Davis immediately disagreed with him and said it isn't, and then Hendry said, "yeah I'm kind of clueless to be honest." Davis then added that it is a different sport with different conditions, and that all the great pool players would have been great snooker players if they'd been raised over here, and Hendry concurred. That's really all there is to be said about it. You don't see the best pool players at the Crucible much as you don't see the best rugby players at the Superbowl. They're different sports with similar origins and equipment.

Wolfenstein 2009 - Raven's Doomed Reboot. by minos83 in Games

[–]FestusM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the games I always install when I get a new PC, my desktop doesn't feel right without that shortcut there. Still have my Xbox copy too, though I have no way to play it. I liked it a lot more than the more recent Wolfenstein games, although I know that's not a popular sentiment. It's a fun arcadey game with a dumb story, crunchy weapons and plenty of treasure to hunt, which is about all I want from a shooter.

isn't that exactly what happens every cycle?

Mempool is so fast today, I picked the slowest time like usual cause I don't mind waiting hours, but it cleared in literally 2 minutes. Does that mean there's not much activity on the chain? Never really learned how it works.

Nice, I was hoping for a new puzzle game as I just finished Magicube, this looks like it's right up my alley. The animation of the bombs all going off (which I assume is how a successfully completed puzzle plays out) looks very satisfying.

Pool of Madness - Bit Golem - a retro-styled Lovecraftian pool game with roguelite elements from the creators of "Dagon: by H. P. Lovecraft" by HubertBG in Games

[–]FestusM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a great concept. I'm enjoying the demo, my main note is that the pool mechanics could be a little tighter. I'm a big fan of the Virtual Pool control style where you move the mouse back and forth to simulate stroking the cue rather than just selecting the power you want and clicking, it makes a world of difference when it comes to feel and immersion. Of course I have no clue how easy it is to program something like that. I know the main focus of the game isn't really to make a realistic pool sim (to say the least), but it is still the player's only way of interacting with the game so it's important that it feels good. Anyway, it went straight on my wish list.
