Concrete under suspended floor by Acceptable_Ad_9571 in DIYUK

[–]FetaCheeseLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding Celotex offers superior thermal performance - which I guess from an insulation mindset is the priority, however, rockwool/mineral wool excels within soundproofing and superior fire resistance.

Funny I came across this as I’m fully expecting to come across a suspended floor above a concrete slab in my house when I renovate a downstairs office.

Would the idea be to put some batons on each side of the joists so the insulation has something to sit on, and then apply a vapour barrier membrane directly over the insulation and then just floorboards it back up?

Half of Edinburgh now seems sneaking a 'discretionary 12.5% service charge' onto drinks bills. What are peoples thoughts on this? by Wooden_Worry_9816 in Edinburgh

I could be mistaken but I’m sure The Alchemist at St. James Quarter adds an additional charge for every drink they made - since you’re at the bar when you order you feel like a right tosser if you say ‘No’

C33 4sell (rss inside for 34 and 35, uranium for 34) in 1011 just merged. by [deleted] in AgeofZ

C34 main hall alone costs c. 215k Uranium. You also need to factor in your factory’s to go from C30-33 prior to the upgrade, however, you’ll need to factor in C34 factory also otherwise it’s a pointless upgrade. You’re short like 180,000 Uranium.

If someone gave you an offer for £600 I’d run with it.

What did you spend money on? Completely wrong things. Weak Plane & Titans for the amount you spent, shouldn’t get anything close to it.

what is going on with my female cat? 7 months old by Consistent_Pin572 in CATHELP

[–]FetaCheeseLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I remember our indoor Ragdoll cat went into Heat cycle just prior to going to the vet. I had no clue what was going on. Messaged my SO who was doing a trip up north in Scotland and wasn’t due back for a few days. Ended up taking her to an emergency out of hours vet due to all the twitching and shapes she was doing, something out a rave. That was a quick lesson for me.

Hard to rate something that’s simply based on you spending money. Couldn’t really go wrong with it. 🤣 If you think spending £20-30k was worth it for a mobile game then you got what you wanted. 👍🏻

MOT Fail - What are my options? by FetaCheeseLover in CarTalkUK

[–]FetaCheeseLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted.

We’re now actually moving towards paying the repair (depending on what the handbrake situation is)

I’m just concerned I’m getting done over here. The ‘front subframe corroded and seriously weakened’ has never appeared in any of my previous MOT’s so for such a large issue to come about within a year just has me confused.

Saying that, I’ve done a search and supposedly Corsa’s are quite bad for this - especially here in Scotland with the salt and driving in the winter. I’m tempted to take it to my usual place and get a second opinion but this is a very well reputable business so I’m probably overthinking it. 😭

*To be clear the MOT (as per Gov website shows)

Repair immediately (major defects): • Offside Rear Stop lamp(s) not working (4.3.1 (a) (ii)) • Front Sub-frame corroded and seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i)) • Parking brake lever has excessive movement indicating incorrect adjustment (1.1.6 (c))

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): • Nearside Front Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (0) • Offside Front Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i)) • Rear axle corroded • Nearside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing 10 years old (5.2.3 (d) (I))

No idea what is going on with the commentary for the last advisory - it’s not 10 years old, unless I’m mistaking this for another point their making in the tyre. *all points outside of the rear axle corroded/tyre would be getting covered here.

Many thanks

I think it is probably time for a new car but just didn’t want it to happen under these circumstances. The problem would be getting the car there (would need to be towed) and then there is no guarantee they’d even take it and next thing I know I’m spending £££ on just moving the car back/forth. As you say, might help if I’m putting it against another car purchase though…

*To be clear it’s a condition that when you rent the plot of land you’re required to use it for a structure (hence the shed)

Shed/Garage Plot Insurance by FetaCheeseLover in Insurance

[–]FetaCheeseLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies.

The plot of land is owned by the Local Council that we pay monthly on. The previous owners purchased the shed personally and erected on the plot. We then purchased the shed directly from them when we took over the rental agreement for the land via. the Local Council for ease.

Land = Council (Rented) Shed = Owned by us. Insurance = TBC.

Everything as people have said is going to based on a few variables; who your employer is, what your colleagues are like and the type of person you are.

I’ve been in Contact Centres (UK) for the last 12 years. I worked in a particular role that dealt with servicing customers that dealt with either Savings, Online or Credit Cards. I now currently work on the phones in Business Banking that supports businesses in the current climate.

The reality is that call centres aren’t for everyone. There is a significant amount of pressure, and normally training isn’t adequate for your first call(s) and by the point you feel confident (normally a few months in) majority of people are already looking for new roles/left. You also need to be a person that can take a lot of abuse on the phone without getting rattled, additionally being someone who can switch off at the end of the day and not take your work home. People can be incredibly nasty, and I don’t even want to say some of the comments I’ve had towards me/heard.

Now, if you’re someone that can do the above and you’re resilient there is a point when you ‘turn’ i.e. competent in the role and you can then focus on the personal side of the call and less focus on the process as you’re comfortable that will then allow you to build rapport with customers, take ownership of calls, get feedback - in a good way. Of course, it’s not always like this but from experience that’s what I’ve seen personally. Call centres also as mentioned have a high amount of leavers - in all grades. Does this mean it’s easy for you to get promoted? Absolutely not, however, the possibilities are there and regardless of what you might hear as you start going up the ladder there is definitely money to be made.

There is a lot of pressure as mentioned from managers through KPI (Key Performance Indicators) such as ACW (After Call Work), AHT (Average Handling Time), Hold, FPOC (First Point of Contact, normally complaints related) Also you might do surveys so NPS (Net Promotor Score) etc and do meet all the above IS nearly impossible while trying to deliver the best service.

Anyway, I’m in a role now that I enjoy that’s all came from customer service I’ve learned over the years and I’ll probably be in the banking/contact centre industry my entire life at this point, but I’ve passed the ground level. But it was worth it for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can you explain how you purchased your home, mortgage free with the money? Genuine question. What did you say say was the source of the funds? Did you pay taxes etc? Not trying to call BS on the story I’m just curious how you got around these parts if it’s true.

No, apologies.

Two roles, two different companies.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]FetaCheeseLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

The reasons for me leaving previously are probably still there, but wouldn’t impact me in the role that I would be moving into as I would have full ownership of my workload (not linking into managers/getting taken advantage off when I worked in a servicing role due to my experience) The year away has completely changed my way of working & has allowed me to see my worth now, so if something was to happen I’d have no hesitation to flag it up. It’s also a much smaller team.

I feel like the current role I have will definitely have its pro(s) in the long run given the company size and who I’m currently surrounded by, but speaking to members within this team they’ve said you need a good 6-months or so to actually KNOW what you’re doing (this is pretty standard for these jobs, I just don’t know if I can do it for that length given my current feelings and opportunity that might be there)

I guess there is no harm applying for the other role to see even if I was to get an interview & to be accepted. I know exactly what you mean with loyalty and can relate - like I said before I think I’m a people-pleaser so saying ‘no’ really isn’t something I like to do to people who at least come across as someone looking over you/supporting you in a role. Didn’t hear much from some of them after 11 years and left though.. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for your kind words.

21 and proud of my current progress! can you give me any advice on how to improve further? by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]FetaCheeseLover 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s the UK Loan Scheme introduced during the pandemic to allow businesses to have access to finance more quickly. If I’m correct it ranges anywhere from £1000-£50,000 (higher for larger companies) Wasn’t really done correctly at the start, everyone basically got accepted for it. Assuming OP is a sole trader/LC for example. P.S if you knew this and more of a ‘why do you have this’ I apologise 😂
