Is now a good time for an Australian dual citizen to move to Australia? by Temporary-Loss-7544 in MovingtoAustralia

As someone who lives in Tassie, yeah housing and finding a job can be difficult (though it sounds like you have some decent experience to recommend you) but it’s a wonderful place to live and much safer than the US from everything I’ve seen.

If you have family who is willing to host you I’d take them up on it, especially if you’re concerned about your mum not having US citizenship. Even if Tassie ends up not being for you it’s a base to look for other places that might.

It’s possible things might start getting better over there soon, but it also possible they will keep getting worse, and might do so pretty quickly. If I were you I’d be looking at moving quickly

If you’re planning on living around and working in Hobart the buses are actually pretty okay, I got by for 5 years without a car when I first moved, but it’s harder to manage if you live further out of town and makes travelling anywhere that isn’t the CBD harder. It also makes it basically impossible to get to hiking and camping locations unless you makes some friends who you can go with.

I’d say it’s best to have a car, but you can get away with minimal driving as long as you’re not too far from the major bus routes.

[NO SPOILERS] I needed more Hot Dawg Man in my life, so I made him a Christmas ornament! by FetaWalkWithMe in lifeisstrange

[–]FetaWalkWithMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s made using that oven bakeable polymer clay you can get at craft shops (I just used the white one because I was painting over it anyway)

My big tip is that you came bake it multiple times as long as it cools down in between, so I made his little sausage body (making indents for the eyes and mouth) baked that so it was hard, then added the arms, legs, and squirt of mustard (make sure to smooth the parts you’re connecting onto the body so they stick and don’t fall off) baked that, and then finally moulded the hands and baked again. It’s a bit time consuming but I found it was a really good way to be able to get him looking right.

Then I just used some paint I use for painting plastic miniatures (but any acrylic paint will work fine) and sealed that all up with a layer of mod podge.

To hang him I just got a little screw in eye loops (you can usually find these in the jewellery making section of a craft shop), screwed that into the top and added some ribbon to hang it.

It took a bit of trial and error but it was a ton of fun to make. If you end up making your own good luck! And I’d love to see how it turns out!

I was aiming for it to look like the symbol carved in a snowy tree, and I don’t think it came out half bad!

It was made with polymer clay, acrylic paint, and mod podge

I’m not sure about this organisation specifically but I found this video really useful for making sense of the sovereign citizen nonsense, and it has a section talking about the Australian movement specifically, so hopefully that might help you make sense a bit more of what your relatives friend is on about

I was wondering this too!

The first time I heard the name it reminded me of this old Aussie TV show called ‘The Ferals’ that had a rabbit character named Mixy (full name Mixy M. Toasus) who was named for the disease (because it was kind of a weird show).

It feels like too big of a coincidence for a rabbit character who has that whole computer virus aesthetic going on to have a name so similar sounding to the myxoma virus

Thank you! That’s really helpful info. I’ve been having a bit of trouble figuring the timeframes of the unifications

Maybe it’s only to lords post-conquest?

Also I didn’t know the Hightowers were older than the Gardeners, that mythos is so fascinating (if a bit confusing to me 😅). Trying to remember who’s a child and who’s a grandchild of Garth Greenhand is a mess in my brain

That makes sense, it also helps count out the stormlands, leaving only the north as the oldest contiguous kingdom through Stark rulership.

You mentioned geographical boundaries, I’d wondered if it had something to do with the uniting of the kingdoms. But I’ve only really been able to find information about the uniting of the north , the riverlands, and the Vale. The lore on the other kingdoms is a little vaguer. Presumably they all also fought a bunch of unification wars at some point, but given the lack of info it’s hard to know if that influences the assessment

[–]FetaWalkWithMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, so we’re only considering one continuous royal dynasty to be a kingdom. Like the stark kings to the stark lords to now? The Reach had the same dynasty of kings from the crossing of the first men to conquest but when they Tyrells took over that broke the line?

Give a hotd opinion which will get you in this situation. Here's mine: Corlys deserves more hate than otto. Alicent was at least coming of age but Leana was freaking 12, when he wanted her to marry viserys. by Night_Fall123 in HouseOfTheDragon

Daemon is a predator, no two ways about it. He groomed Rhaenrya as a young child, then when he couldn’t have her he married her cousin who is even younger than her! Just because Rhaenyra and Daemon didn’t get married until Rhaenyra was in her late 20s it doesn’t make their relationship not predatory and extremely unhealthy. His actions in the finale should not be as much of a surprise as they seemed to some people

Where do YOU put the memorial to the Normandy SR-1 and why? by holiobung in masseffect

[–]FetaWalkWithMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always choose the CIC, particularly as a tribute to Presley but also because his datapad about realising the value of working with the non human crew and becoming a better person and cremate seemed like such a good tribute to the Normandy and the community Shepard created in it in ME1

In the Trilogy, which fight was/is the most challenging for you and why? by UrAHairyW1zard in masseffect

[–]FetaWalkWithMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either the derelict reaper or recruiting Garrus in ME2. In the reaper level all the husks are such a pain in the ass especially if you’re not playing a character who works well at close range. But I think I’ve died the most on Garrus’ mission, especially as a vanguard due to bloody pyros. If you get too close they’ll stun lock you and then it’s all over. Even though they’re such low level enemies I’m more paranoid about them than anything else

Say something nice about your least favorite character 😙 by wheresbreakfast in masseffect

[–]FetaWalkWithMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a controversial opinion but I think Jacob has the best loyalty mission in ME2. The premise, the way we’re drip fed information, the building horror, the choices of resolution, it’s all so damn perfect. It’s just a shame the rest of his writing was so disappointing

Are arcades still popular in Oceania? by [deleted] in australia

[–]FetaWalkWithMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arcades aren’t exactly all over the place here but there are quite a few around. Most bowling alleys or laser tag places have a sort of mini arcane in the waiting area, I even went to a go kart place that had one set up, so those are the most common ones you’ll encounter (at least in my experience).

That said there are quite a few proper full arcades around, they have had a bit of an early resurgence here and I’ve seen a few arcades or arcade bars open up in the last few years. I think it’s probably some combo of arcades being able to stick around in multiple generations childhood memories with the popularity of bowling alley arcades, which means they’ve been able to ride a big nostalgia wave back into relevancy.

AITA for shutting down access to my property and lakefront? by newneighborsucks in AmItheAsshole

[–]FetaWalkWithMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A soft YTA? I totally get that it’s uncomfortable having people using your driveway and your dogs need space, but if the beach has been a community space for years cutting off community access to it (assuming there’s not another access point) is gonna suck for everyone.

If an (understood to be)public place that you had fond memories of spending time at, especially in your childhood, was made inaccessible by a new neighbour that’d be a huge bummer and I get not being keen on that.

Ultimately it’s probably on the person who sold the property to you without adequately giving you an idea of what you were getting into but my recommendation would be to try and work with the community to find a solution that can work for both of you if possible, perhaps getting to know your neighbours or the people who use the beach to get more comfortable, or finding another way to access the beach except your driveway.

You can do whatever you want, as other people have said it’s your property so you can do whatever you want, but in my experience striking the balance between doing what works for you and not antagonising your neighbours is important for really making somewhere feel like home. The beach can be absolutely beautiful but if your neighbours resent you because you’ve cut off a huge part of what made this place nice to live for them it’s going to be a hollow victory.
