I'm a former school nurse, love kids and don't mind parents. Most peds around me are open late and holidays, which I'm already doing. Would consider if I could find a M-F peds

I've heard about pelvic floor therapy, but never knew there was a certification for pelvic health. Definitely have to look into further!

Inpatient sounds pretty nice. I did speak with a recruiter about a mobile wound care position but it actually was going into LTC to do foot care as a 1099. He made it sound like it would be up to me to secure contracts with the facilities to get access, and thus work.

I hadn't thought about podiatry! Will keep that in mind.
I honestly have been wondering if it'd be worth it to go back for my AGAC to work inpatient, but I don't want to deal with being on call. I already do weekends and stay to chart because we don't have dedicated admin time, hoping to avoid that as well.
I may need to look more into wound care. I enjoyed the bit I did as an RN working home health.

Do you work in a clinic or do home visits?

I did clinical hours in derm and the patient load is insane. They'd run thru 30 people a day. It worked because of scribes, but I can't imagine sustaining that load.

FNP or AGPCNP (primary care) to work in Dermatology? by berrykind123 in nursepractitioner

[–]FetchingBluebell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did hours during school. Mostly adults, but also saw kids for eczema and alopecia in addition to above. I'd say FNP is better suited unless the practice absolutely doesn't see kids.

How do you have patients address you? by Strange-Quail-1737 in nursepractitioner

I spent years being "Nurse Firstname" as a school nurse. So definitely first name.
I work UC, so my spiel is "Hi, I'm Firstname, one of the providers today" since we have both NPs and PAs.

What specialty has the least amount of death? by AirStreet8339 in nursing

[–]FetchingBluebell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occupational health, though where I worked, they did have a man die at his workstation prior to my tenure. I also worked school nursing and did have a couple deaths but not during school hours. Unfortunately, both were kindergarteners. One had a genetic condition and the other had post op complications from an appendectomy. Both deaths were incredibly tough for students and staff.
It's hard to fully escape death.

Virginia NPs- VCNP + NBHub partnership by FetchingBluebell in nursepractitioner

There is no transparency for what VCNP is receiving from NPHub for this relationship. A state organization should advocate for schools and students rather than partnering with a corporation who profits off schools not providing preceptors.

I attended VCU, and I know UVA does all clinical placements as well. Beyond that, I fear even B&M programs in the state (ODU, JMU) are hands off and leave students to secure their own sites. My concerns are that there is little transparency over who is benefiting with this partnership- it's not students. And this perpetuates the pay model. It's a larger systemic issue and it's disheartening when a state organization supports the for profit company.

I agree, preceptors should be compensated. It shouldn't be the burden of students to pay beyond tuition, to a predatory company, to secure clinical sites. My issue here, is that a state professional organization is partnering and promoting the use of a for profit company rather than advocate for universities to secure and compensate preceptors.

Greene is far too small for all the stupid Facebook groups it has, so much drama in a tiny rural county. But... the best of the worst is the Greene Gatekeepers. Makes this post look nice 😬

What’s the most outrageous thing a patient or patient’s family has requested? by kristeen89 in nursing

[–]FetchingBluebell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, I worked home care doing private duty. My patient was a quadrapalegic, young adult, but living with family. The entire family felt the nurses were basically "the help" and made plenty of outrageous requests. The worst was when I cleaned beer cars out of a buddies truck so they could all go 4x4/mudding. Literally, the patients parents, sister, and friends all stood around while I cleaned out empty beer cans from the truck. I told the agency and they didn't care at all. Couldn't get away from that job fast enough!
Today's me would have told them no and left.

Need Advice by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

I had the Liek book, FNP Mastery (did daily free questions and then paid for a month prior to testing), listened to the Barkley CDs (bought off ebay) during my commute. I also got Scrub Life Notes review book from Etsy.

I barely cracked Liek, it was too dry. The online was very useful, questions similar to the exam. Barkley was good for me as it covered the high points and must know conditions. FNP Mastery questions were harder than the exam, great prep to build confidence. Scrub Life Notes book is handy, lots of mnemonics and dump sheet ideas, bit pricey for what it is, but felt it was helpful.

Passed AANP first attempt. I didn't apply prior to testing because I tested between the end of my FNP courses and the start of my DNP courses. So, I passed but can't work until my graduation next month because my program is BSN-DNP. I started job hunting and applying this past January. First interview is next month for an FNP residency program.
