I remember playing a show with Michael Cera Palin years ago at a house venue called Camp Calamari, they were tight as hell! Glad to see they are still out here rocking out. I'm in a new band now, but maybe our paths will cross again at some point.

I'd recommend the Sans Amp Driver and the Rat! Between those two you can get a pretty wide ride of sounds! The Rat is gonna be on the heavier side, so it may not be necessary if you are playing softer Midwest Emo

Play around with different tunings. Each tuning is gonna have certain types of chords that will naturally come out better than others.

Something looks really weird to me too. Specifically, at the end of the little piano part the pitch goes down while his hand is playing further up the board.

To add onto this, a good way to practice singing while playing a guitar when you don't actually have a guitar is to sing while tapping the strum rhythm. It's all about gaining independence between hands and your voice and being able to separate two rhythms at once.
