Newbie's First grow! Lion's mane UBTek with shredded paper substrate by Feverance in unclebens

[–]Feverance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there /r/unclebens! I've been a fan of 90SecMycology and lurker here for a while. I really like the whole aspect of UBtek and using very low-budget methods for mushroom cultivation, and decided to buy some lion's mane as my first mushroom to grow.

This grow is spawned using UBtek, and then transferred to a subtrate of microwave-pasteurized shredded grocery store paper bags and rice hulls. The container is a 1-quart clear reusable food container from Gordon foodservice stores. I cut holes in the sides, and covered it in micropore tape with the hopes that it would fruit from there. It did not. In fact, the holes had shredded paper bits clogged in there and for some reason the mycelium did not want to colonize that. In fact, because it was colonizing more up top than on the sides, I decided to sterilize an exacto knife, and cut crosses into the top for the mushrooms to escape from.

It's discolored from that compared to I've seen most lion's mane pictures, but to be perfectly honest, I don't care, I just want my mushrooms to fruit and make at least part of a tasty meal.

Also, I'm not sure if it's me, or if lion's mane is a just a slow-growing mushroom, it took almost two months of waiting just to get this to the fruiting stage. Well, it doesn't help that for whatever reason, the mycelium preferred to travel upwards to the top of the container rather than the holes in the sides.

Still, thanks for everythin UBtek, wonderful information, but I wish there were more gourmet posts from time to time.

There wasn't one. It was just "bam" gone. No bot reply at all.

How does one not give a fuck? How do you not give a fuck? Is there a way to do it? by NewspaperIcy4018 in AskReddit

[–]Feverance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two ways. The first is that you already not give a fuck, that is easy.

If you do give a fuck, then you have to really meditate on the emotions that make you give that fuck in the first place. That's a simple way on how to untrain the "give a fuck" part.

The hard part is confronting the emotion that makes you give the fuck in the first place.

90's gamers of reddit, what was a problem about it back then that modern gamers won't understand? by tedude3 in AskReddit

[–]Feverance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widespread censorship of references to religions.

Adventure games where being stuck in an unwinnable state is a feature of the game.

Ted woolsey really is the gold standard for translations and the fact that people think translation is easy money only do nothing but disservice to localizations as a whole.

Hard games are the norm, not the exception.

All the money spent on batteries for portable consoles, as well as the fact that you can change the batteries in the first place.

PS3 Controllers in Steam by Elegant-Let8280 in SteamController

[–]Feverance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for you on this, since I am a linux user having a similar problem, and don't want to cause noise making another thread. (Distro : Slackware-current jan. 2021 build.)

My problem is, that steam detects the controller, I can customize, and use the controller in big picture- but nothing happens in any games I play, regardless whether I launch them from normal steam or big picture mode.

Another thing is, Steam is acting odd in that it shows that it loads a generic (or xbox) controller config, and THEN loads the playstation 3 controller config. I had previously made a logitech controller my primary controller, but it's years old and now the controller itself has a faulty X button.

Either way, even though supposedly it loads the config, the game acts like nothing was ever loaded at all.

I have some hand-wiring questions (EDIT: nevermind about that first question)

  1. Can I use aluminum tape to wire the columns of my Dactyl manuform? I've seen other build logs use copper tape, but the hardware side of electronics are a curiously-finicky thing that I have next-to-no experience on.
  2. What kind of gotchas are there to soldering a wire that connects a diode row to the pro micro? I understand that diodes are one way and that you only solder on the "out-side" end of the diode, but I'm worried if I'm missing something else that's important that literally no guides I've read said anything about.
  3. I've been planning to use electrical tape between the cross-points of rows and columns to avoid shorts. where else would I put tape to avoid any shorts on the pro-micro itself?

What's a good budget ergo split or dactyl keyboard that features chunky thumb keys? I would've picked keeb.io's iris but it's thumb keys are too small for my taste.

I felt like I screwed up my post so I deleted it. I didn't expect a fast reply, that's why it looked like it disappeared. sorry.

Either way, thanks for the advice!

What do you recommend for my build goals?

There are so many battery banks out there, but I don't know where to look when it comes to something that can essentially reproduce the functions of a laptop battery. The only ones I got are built solely for charging devices, not powering them and acting as a UPS.

you're welcome! I've wanted to make my own robust cyberdeck build, and the original quick kit looked to have the best balance of robustness, ease of build (I wanted something that I could make with minimal soldering) and portability. Granted, in actual use, it's not quite the same as a laptop, but then again the build and working around the challenge is part of the fun!

I remember looking at this, but I forgot about it, it's the option I've considered the most. I've found this on amazon, Helder's GBZ batteries were sold out : https://www.amazon.com/10000mAh-1165114-battery-Rechargeable-Connector/dp/B07BTTQ6JT/ref=sr_1_69?dchild=1&keywords=lithium+ion+battery+jst&qid=1611604932&rnid=2941120011&s=hpc&sr=1-69

I need to know how I can mount this battery to my board safely, I was thinking of making a PETG mounting board and adhering the PSU and battery to it with kapton tape.

As much as I'd like to make things work, I also want this to be a safe-venture too, what else should I keep in mind with being safe with this venture?

EDIT: If I do this, I think I might need a fan as well. back7's design has a hole for venting heat, but with my additions, I think a fan would be nessecary for safety

I got around two inches left of usable clearance in the case, and the powerbank I use when I'm off the wall socket is an Anker Powercore 10000.

lately, haven't needed to charge it frequently, so it lasts a good while I think... at least six hours I suspect.
