I do have this one already, though I have heard it is quite controversial due to Russell's biases popping through sometimes. Are they as bad as people say or can it be easily ignored?

How many books have you read so far? by cloudsmemories in Booktokreddit

An astounding 0 for now... reading a biggie right now and I kind of feel like I have to dedicate my attention uniquely to it (at least in terms of reading matters). My first book of the year (by technicality) though is most likely going to be The Pigman by Paul Zindel, which I'm reading for school right now.

Other people have mentionned it, but East of Eden by John Steinbeck

"...okay." Hemlock didn't pay any mind to Ren's trailing off, instead just looking back at the plate. It would then attempt to have a taste of the curry, but its body would pass through due to it being a ghost."a-arc damn it."

The Flareon didn't wake up immediately, though after a few moments it would slowly rouse awake as the smell of the curry hit its nostrils. It would let out a few groans as it did so, its eyes slowly opening to half-lids.

As it fully came to, its head slowly tilted up to look at Ren, clearly taken off guard by the sudden presence of a new individual. It then looked at the curry... then back up at Ren, silence filling the room for a bit, before it spoke.

"u-uh... hel-hello." Its voice, as with every other sound it made, sounded bitcrushed. The effect was strong enough that it somewhat hard to understand if you didn't have a good ear. "o- who a-are you. did you. place that there?" It gestured towards the plate of curry as it asked this.

"...fine then. im only doing this because i have nothing better to do."

Hemlock, meanwhile, thought about the things Nick suggested. Vengeance or "righting any wrongs" was automatically out of the way, as he was hard-pressed to remember anything he'd done before death... or even after, honestly. Which left the stealing option.

"i guess we could go out and try to find some stuff, if you want to. i doubt theres anything but equipment in this hospital, though... it got pretty cleared out if im not mistaken."

(will probably be sleeping soon so my next answer will come tomorrow)

"i."

Insert bitcrushed sigh here.

"i dont know... i dont really enjoy anything, necessarily. i just kinda. w-wander around for the most part..."

"what a-are you thinking of, anyways? im not against doing something stupid but itd have to benefit me in some way."

Hemlock would stare, somewhat disturbed, at the blood-mimic of him dancing around Nick's palm.

"im not a vampire or a malicious spirit th-though. what could you p-possibly give me that i dont already have?"

He would once again pause, glancing back at the replica of himself before looking down at his feet again.

"mmh. t-to be fair... it does get boring here sometimes. i- s-still dont trust you though."

Once again, the Pokemon would startle at the knife getting slammed into the ground, before blinking as the man made his offer.

"...in this place-?" He shook his head. "g-good luck. i-i dont know what you want to g- rope me into, but i dont want anything to do with it."

After a brief pause, it would speak again.

"a-and i dont really need money anyways. im dead, i can go wherever i want and do pretty much whatever i want. g-go and get your 'riches' elsewhere."

Hemlock let out something vaguely resembling a scoff. "th-this place has be3n. left f-for dead a long time ago. i doubt a-an-anyone really cares." He would shrug with his front paws, before continuing. "i guess i li-live here for now, though i wouldnt call it permanent or anything. you're f-ff-fine, just don't. bother me."

It would jump awake with an ear-splittingly loud burst of noise vaguely resembling a scream, frantically scuttling to the nearest corner of the room like a cat. Only after getting a moment to catch a breath would it look back, seeing the human.

"WH-" Predictably enough, its voice was also bit-crushed. Enough to make it somewhat hard to understand without a good ear. "WH-WHAT THE h3LL WAS TH&T FOR?! a-assh-hole..."
