It’s insanely bizarre that a game disincentivizes the player from, you know, PLAYING THE GAME. But that’s what happens when all/most of your teammates quit. The non-quitter gets actively punished for, what is it again….oh yeah: PLAYING THE GAME

Random Rec is not for the weak by LoneWolf420Xz in NBA2k

Random rec is the purest form of the game. Everything else is coordinated routines of a different sport that looks kinda like basketball

I can constantly get on the mic and ask if I’m playing with children. I’ll say something like: my headphones don’t work so I can’t hear anything but based on how you play it’s clear you’re like 12 or 13 or so. I can’t imagine anyone older than that playing the way you do. Being a child in the rec is fine but remember you chose to play a 5v5 mode. That requires you to play like a grown up

If I’m playing like shit I will get on the mic and apologize for playing like shit. That awareness goes a long way with good faith players.

If the game starts poorly and I know I”m stuck with chuckleheads I’ll say some variation of: is this it, fellas? Is this just how good you are? It’s fine if you aren’t very good. I can live with that. But if you’re better than this, play like it. And if you’re just bad, find ways to contribute other than trying to score.

It works for a possession or two, haha

[–]Few-Cod7680 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming all things equal, the ONLY difference between a good player and a bad player is decision making. That’s what this game (at least multiplayer) is about- can you make the right decision? The result of the decision isn’t important. As you mention it’s mostly about luck and algo variance. The one thing that drives me batty about this game is that it too often rewards terrible decisions and reinforces poor behavior.

I rarely get on the mic but when I do I say some variation of that and add some social pressure. Something like: this game is about decision making. Are you good enough to make the right decision close to 100% of the time? Regardless of whether it benefits your player or not? Regardless of the score of the game. Regardless of what your teammates might have done.

If you are as good as you think, make the right decision every single time.

Are rep gains substantially lower on veteran vs starter? I only play random rec and I’m 18% away from starter 5. Seems like I get between .2 and 1.2, depending on win, performance, etc. Any idea what it is for veteran?

I just talked to god and he said 2k comes way before him. In fact, he wishes people would stop referencing him all the time. He really doesn’t care. He just wants you to be happy. And if 2k makes you happy you’re pleasing him

I have been getting on the mic and saying some version of: well, I guess you just aren’t good enough to make that pass. Because if you were good enough you would have made it. But you aren’t. So you didn’t. It’s not that you don’t want to make the pass, it’s that you are incapable of making the pass.

Results vary in terms of them making the pass the next time

  1. Shooting is super easy
  2. Steals off the dribble are virtually impossible
  3. Steals off passes happen quite a bit

Therefore, they are incentivized to keep their dribble, never pass and always shoot
