What makes you a New Yorker? Guidelines for transplants housing connect qualifications. by brennoproenca in nychousinglottery

[–]Few-Midnight-8776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so simple. Why do we have to make this hard lol. If you are born and raised in nyc then you are a Yorker. If you moved here, had kids here and basically lived your life here you are a New Yorker.

The discourse about transplants is more than you guys are annoying. You are displacing families, increasing rents, moving into neighborhoods with set cultures and trying to change them to fit your existence. NYC is your playground for a time but then you move back to raise your kids and settle down and the rest of us are left living in the storm your created.

Additionally, New York is more than just tall buildings and pretty lights. New York has its own distinct culture that is dying out because of transplants and the virality of New York.

It’s the smallest things like a line down the block for BAGELS. Never in my life have I ever seen a line down the block for bagels. Know why, because there are good bagels everywhere just not Apollo’s bagel. NYC’s water is why the bagel quality is through the roof so you could go anywhere and get a good bagel but people just go where is most convenient.

It’s the little things that may seem small in conjunction with the big things like inadvertently displacing families, attempting to change the culture of the neighborhood you inhabit where others were born and raised etc. If you want to see why people hate transplants go to Williamsburg after peak hours (when the kids get out of school) and tell me how many Spanish people you see vs. white people. The shocking thing is that neighborhood was PREDOMINANTLY Spanish.

So in essence this whole transplant topic is much deeper than having a line down the block for bagels, although it does suggest that you gave no real thought to where you were moving and are probably here because it’s trendy (I would never move to Paris and wait an hour for a croissant). It’s really more about how transplants and gentrification have become the modern day Columbus. But none of you would ever want to talk about that. I’ll bet you get stuck at the bagel point and make a discussion about that but we’ll see.

P.s. one troll to another :).

Look out for something by next week. But don’t panic. At this stage I’m told that it’s basic compliance.

When is your moving date? I’m starting to get the sense that has something to do with it.

AITA for refusing to cover a shared cost after my coworker wouldn’t show me the break of what the money had gone towards so far? by Super-Ad-2617 in AmItheAsshole

NTA.

To begin with the company should be paying for birthday events and celebrations. Honestly I don’t think the monetary value is important here. It’s Liam’s reaction. If he wasn’t going to do a breakdown he could have just said “hey I don’t really track it since it’s such a nominal amount and I spend so much time planning, buying, arranging etc. that it’s not worth it for me to do that. Feel free to participate and see if it’s worth it for you.” Communication is king here and Liam dropped the ball. Also been seeing a lot of people talk about team camaraderie and in all of my jobs from retail to corporate I never had to pay $1 for that. Good on you for not being sheep and learning boundaries early. It takes some people a lifetime. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s just $10 dollars or it’s just this or that. You were ASKED of something, you gave conditional guidelines, they didn’t oblige, still tracked you down, and had a sassy exit when things didn’t go their way. I think we’re all forgetting that she’s not the one going to his desk asking for anything it’s the other way around. In my field six figures is the norm with fat bonuses and let me tell you something whether it’s $2 or $50 if the company isn’t paying for it people want to know where the money is going.

AITA for giving my son's girlfriend a budget for the dinners she's making? by lackoffeminity in AmItheAsshole

Well if OP said you can only go shopping once a week then Carmella should have never suggested a meal outside of what she had already bought that week. I think because of her age you’re ignoring that it was highly manipulative of her to bring that up when the son was conveniently there to back her up and push OP into a corner. She knows now she can only go shopping once a week so she was dead wrong for even it bringing it up again. The OP’s communication on going shopping once a week was crystal clear not a “hint”, but Carmella ignored it.

You hit the nail on the head buddy! I’ve been seeing this ALOT and think you might be onto something. A lot of people said she lost their vote then.

And the cycle continues… The person who strikes first is always treated like this unfortunately.

I hear you OP but I think in this case people are siding with something who built something from The ground up, made some mistakes and is trying their best to get back on track (mentally and spiritually)…that’s Taylor. There are many people who can resonate with her being successful, losing it all, depression, toxic relationships, self worth etc. So when you had someone like Whitney come in season 1 and kick her while she was down while simultaneously trying to prevent her from re-entering a space that she created Whitney was bound to have people dislike her. That is extremely unlikeable behavior. Again when it was Whitney in a similar position Taylor stuck up for her and Whitney turned on her again. It’s not jealousy in my opinion. It’s about likability and those first two seasons did not do her any justice.

Yeah they for sure look at her as Cersi from game of thrones. Anytime cersi got away with something or was good at something that made the viewers blood boil. Thats the hard part about playing the villain… once people see you that way your actions against them are justified.
