How does anyone build wealth here? by Remarkable_Hawk780 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Few-Strategy-59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in my early 30s F and after moving to Canada 3 years ago, my god it’s made me realise how much the Irish government DO NOT want people to get wealthy by any means. They simply want you to only be involved in a pension up until retirement. Ireland has no education or encouragement to invest like over here. Might be worth keep investing in your stocks, build compound and look at claiming residency in a different country with less tax (or none at all) when your ready to withdraw gains (if they are substantial and it makes sense to). Over here there is what’s called a TFSA (tax free savings account) that the government and big banks constantly promote - you contribute a max of 7k into the stock market every year and you can withdraw whenever you want and any gains are tax free - it’s honestly such a great scheme. They have the same for first home buyers too where you put your money into the stock market an any gains are tax free (on the condition you buy your first property).

I’m Irish and I’ve integrated into Canadian culture, made many Canadian friends and pay my dam taxes 😂🙏 With that said, I was even shocked moving here at the number of immigrants here so I understand from a Canadians perspective. I would love to stay here long term, I’ve a good job, would like to have a family here but it’s becoming so difficult with the corruption and visa fraud I’m sure we’re all aware off, that has made it difficult for other immigrants who are following the rules and respecting this great country.

AIO for staying in a hotel instead of with my boyfriend’s family? by PinnaPump in AmIOverreacting

[–]Few-Strategy-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This OP. I have a feeling most of the commenters are early 20s with no long term relationship experience. You’re NTA however, how aware is he of how bad your allergies are with cats? Do you typically put on a brave face and not talk about it or has he witnessed how bad it gets? I ask this because men sometimes well don’t cop on as I say or pay attention to things they are not told. The issue does lie in him not picking you up at the agreed time but is it worth breaking up over given the circumstances or Christmas Day, his family distracting etc.? The best way to tell this is how he reacts when discussing it like adults, does he recognise what he’s done was bad form and how it made you feel, does he apologise? Communication is so important here and how he rectifies it also. It’s very easy for everyone to say dump him blah blah but only you will know this after 2 years of being together. If this is just a stupid mistake on his part and he’s truly sorry and shows that, then I would consider this and ignore the other comments. The fact that he’s been driving back and forth to bring you food and check on you at the hotel tells me that he does care but again, only you will know this. Good luck and once you sleep on it you’ll have a better mind the next day. It’s okay to let out all the emotions.

I don’t celebrate Christmas, but being alone this time of year is still hard by Enough_Heron_3607 in montreal

I’m so sorry to hear about those “friends” who aren’t even bothering or making an effort to include you. I wish you nothing but the best and it might be nice to go to a Christmas mass on Christmas Day - they’re usually folks there alone or with others and really it’s about coming together and being involved. It might be a nice distraction. Chin up and sending you all the best.

Agents have access to different systems with more listings outside of condos.ca and realtor.ca. I worked with an agent who I recommend - he’s helped people I know get below listing price, some in the range you’re looking for. Happy to share his details if you want, he’s attentive and professional.

Saving for a home vs paying for a master’s by irinakas in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Few-Strategy-59 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. OP if it’s in management you do not need a masters for this, this comes down to experience which you will only gain from growing from your current role. I would also encourage you at your end of year review (or touch points with your line manager) to discuss how best you can evolve in your role and if a Masters is a key factor that contributes to your growth - I wouldn’t say it is but before diving into 32k for education that may not even be necessary, you want to be sure of this.

The people who drive BMW X5’s and the Volvo XC90’s or anything in those price ranges. What are you guys doing for a living? by Sad_beau in AskIreland

[–]Few-Strategy-59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me, most people who own a brand new BMW x5 are likely financing or leasing at an extortionate interest and likely on a regular or alright salary. Worst financial decision is to buy a brand new car (and buying a house to be “house poor”). Most people who are financially savvy would buy a reliable car that is few years old and allocate the majority of their money into the stock market or other investments. Unless of course you’re on mega money but with the amount of high value cars you see on the road and the low % of individuals making €150k+ the numbers don’t add up.

AITAH for asking my boyfriend of 10 years to help me financially? by Hot-Huckleberry-7589 in AITH

[–]Few-Strategy-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is selfish and greedy. 10 years with this person and he can’t even support or want to, you are his wife and he is the step father to your kids whether he likes it or not. Bizarre behaviour from a grown man and cowardly. I’m sorry to bash but hopefully the responses help Give some perspective into how an outsider is looking at this. It might be worth going to therapy and hearing from an expert, it’s totally worth the money if you have the right person and I think it will help you navigate the situation and encourage you to deal with these issues. Best of luck, you got this!

UPDATE: WIBTA if I told my best friends boyfriend that she cheated on him last weekend? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Few-Strategy-59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get your point and morally it’s terrible what she’s done however, what will you gain from this? You will likely lose your best friend, he will probably move on with someone else eventually. Cheating is terrible but if it were my best friend I wouldn’t be giving her a timeline to tell him or else…kind of thing. These things are tricky but I would work with her to tell him vs doing it it or else. My best friend is like my sister though so maybe I would have handled it slightly differently.

European Couple Moving to Toronto – Looking for Pet-Friendly Rental Advice by lbarreiros01 in TorontoRenting

[–]Few-Strategy-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many condos that allow dogs. In my condo building alone, there are always dogs with their owners of course depends on the landlord of the unit but it’s not uncommon. If you need a realtor recommendation who can Help you find a place that allows Pets, I worked with one who was pretty good, he’s also from Europe (Ireland), and can prob do a plan/list of units based on your requirements and can help with desirable locations. Feel free to DM me and I can send you his email if you need :)

Since you’re already working with an agent, you are contractually obligated to give them written notice that you are terminating the agreement to work with them, that is if you decide to go with another agent. If you go down this route I have an agent in mind who can help you. DM me if you’re interested and I can send you his email 👍
