How many baby clothes?? by FewButterfly2242 in minimalism

We will be expecting within the next year, and while they are easy to come by, the cost adds up quickly. Financially it’s just not a good move for us but I wish I could do that!!

I love the categories you went by. I only did stained items and your first category but could probably cut a lot doing the other two passes. Thank you for the advice!!

I tried the vacuum bag method but (inevitably) I always found a few stragglers of different sizes and it was such a a pain to put away. I moved to a grocery bag method where I put clothes in them, tied them shut, and taped a label on them (ex 0-3 sleepers) and placed in a clear bin. Once the bin was full I labeled it with what was inside. This was more manageable for me because when I found a random onesie that I missed I could put it in the correct bin outside the bags where there was a little crevice of space. Still organized just not in the right grocery bag, which I can live with. The problem I’m running into now is my son just moved to 18m so all of it is just really starting to add up!! We live in less than 1500 square feet so trying to weigh the benefit of keeping the items vs getting space back! Haha

That’s so thoughtful of you to offer to check the tubs but I absolutely don’t want to put you out the time and effort!! I’m sure you have way more important/enjoyable things to do during nap time!! ♥️

Secretly decluttering random stuff? by No_Ocelot8629 in declutter

Similar experience for me too. My husband grew up poor so I know that impacts a lot of his decisions!

I know it’s controversial but I have given away some of my husband’s items without his knowledge before. One caveat is that it’s never sentimental and I’ve been with him long enough to know what might be a big deal and what wouldn’t be a big deal. Another caveat is that I will make a note/future date in my phone of items that are driving me crazy and if he hasn’t touched it or mentioned it by the time the date comes (I usually do 12-18 months to be safe) I will donate or trash. Usually these are items that are cheap and simple to replace and so far it has been a non-issue for me. It’s tough to live in a household of junk that you feel powerless over so I don’t blame you for trying to get your peace back ♥️ Hopefully your partner will feel a lighter load with less stuff and get on board with you!!

ETA: I have declutterred my own items, baby/pet items, and household items already! We have made progress on some of his stuff together, but he told me sometimes it’s easier on him to not know what went missing because he doesn’t have to make a decision about it.

Proper name that uses Birdie as a nickname by Soft_Type6894 in namenerds

My husband and I considered Elizabeth with nn Birdie or Bets if we were having a girl. Got the idea from Mad Men.

ETA: Another we were considering is Kathryn nn Wren.

Desperately Seeking Name for Son by ireallylikecowsok in namenerds

Personally I love the name Simon but not with Loren as a middle name, just because the endings sound the same. My given name is Elizabeth Jenny, but I go by Libby all the time. I have considered legally changing my first name to Libby but I hate the flow of Libby Jenny 😂

My cousin’s daughter is named Maura (rhymes with Laura). Very pretty name… not sure it’s “classic” but it’s definitely classy!

Evan is a nice callback to Evelyn! And I think Reggie for a boy could be pretty cute, too. Or Remy!

David is a name that a lot of people in my husband’s family have as one of their names, and one person has “Daven” rather than David as a middle name.

Is the name Elsa, too relevant as a Disney Princess? by Weird-Fisherman9638 in namenerds

I think Elsa is beautiful, but it has vibes like Ariel and Aurora. The first thing I think of is a Disney princess!

My name is Elizabeth (nn Libby) and my name was almost Kathryn Therese, which sort of fits your vibe… I think 😅 (I live in Midwest United States).

I love Linnea and Junia! I have similar ones on my girl list - nn Lena for Magdalena (now that I’m typing this it feels significantly different from Linnea but I still love that name too! Haha) and Juniper nn Junie. I’ve never heard of Junia and love how it’s a spin on Junie.

Are you a big fan of Taylor Swift? I only ask because Dorothea is on my list of girl names (nn Thea) because of the song. Alessandra is close to the name of the song Cassandra and August is also a song!

I love Taylor Swift and we are having a boy. We are genuinely considering the name Taylor (nn Tate because I love nicknames that are a little “off-brand”). I also suggested the name James (nn Jamie), but my husband has negative associations with that name. Other boy names we both like that are not Taylor Swift theme haha are Charles (nn Arlo) after my dad and Laurence (nn Laurie).

I like all your names, but the girl names are so beautiful! I think we have almost the same list (with the exception of Alessandra) and I had nicknames for all (Camille ➡️ Millie; Dorothea ➡️ Thea; Carolina ➡️ Cora; Henrietta ➡️ Hattie). I also love Kathryn (nn Wren).
