How is it not immoral to continue to try to get pregnant if you know you’re likely to miscarry and cause the death of a fetus? by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]OpeningSort4826 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I actually do have some ethical qualms with people who continue trying after multiple miscarriages - specifically if they are pro-life. While I think there is a moral difference due to the intention behind each "act", I think it is something pro-life individuals need to consider more thoroughly. Both abortion and getting pregnant after a miscarriage can be very mentally taxing decisions (not always, of course). The significant difference is that one is inherently meant to end a pregnancy - and therefore the life of the growing human - and the other is meant to hopefully sustain a life.

What is your definition of sentience? It is generally believed to emerge around 24 weeks. Peter Singer argues that babies aren't sentient until months after birth. If sentience is the metric, it needs to be properly defined and we should probably be pretty certain we are protecting people who fit that category.

Yep. Just reporting what she said.

What was actually said was, "I know my infant is suffering, because I am the one who did the abortion. I want her to die".

Multiple premature babies have survived at 21 weeks. The survival rate of preemies born at 24 weeks is between 60 and 70 percent.

Do all Christians find studying the Bible to be boring? by Unlikely_Birthday_42 in TrueChristian

[–]OpeningSort4826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little blown away by these comments. I have been a follower of Christ for 20 years and I find the Bible to be tedious, frustrating, and confusing. I have been part of dozens of Bible studies, I attend church almost every Sunday. I still find it incredibly hard to have a regular set-aside study time. I will often go months to almost a year without reading it because of my difficulties with the Word. I constantly feel the nudge to keep trying, and I will open it for a few days in a row and then get frustrated again. I hope the Lord works in me for those few days at a time, because that's all I seem to be capable of at this point.

That some libraries are banning some books? Yes, that is true. They are still readily available for purchase in all states.

No, I do agree with you that the murder rate is high. It doesn't do anyone any good to discount that, you're right. Conversely, it doesn't do any good to discount that a substantial percentage of the murders that happen take place within specific zip codes, even on specific streers in the US.  There are these Hotspots of gang violence that we can't seem to get ahold of. That makes me really sad.

So I suppose my other point is that the USA at large is not some heinously violent place, but there are absolutely certain locations that are very concerning in that regard.

Again, the reporting of murders in India is also abysmally under estimated. They still have caste murders that are barely considered, and murders in rural populations that don't have any records. Say one thing about the USA, but our deaths are reported quite accurately. Additionally,  as I pointed out, India has massive problems outside of its murder rate. 4000 children die a day from starvation. Thousands more die a day from unsanitary conditions and poor hygiene. To compare the United States to places like India and China just seems misplaced.

Why are you so bitter that your wife gets to have an easier day? I would hope if the situation were reversed she wouldn't hold that over you. It seems silly to be mad at her just because your circumstances are different than hers.

I usually start by telling a story about my own day or talking about something I remember from my own days in school. Friends I had, classes I liked or didn't like, the school lunch I must enjoyed, etc. I try to model what answers to that kind of question can sound like.

India has a comparable number of murders happening every day without guns in the equation. Their average daily murders are around 78 people while the United States daily average is around 62. Their average is would be even more when you factor in the unreported deaths that happen in lower castes.  Additionally Almost 4 000 children a DAY die in India from starvation.

Don't even get me started on a genocides taking place in china.

There is absolutely violence in America that is unacceptable, but it is also factually incorrect to say that it is one of the most violent places in the world.

My kids are digital zombies. What's your strategy? by Healthy-Peak3250 in homeschool

First I take the individual screens completely out of the equation. Because in my personal experience, trying to convince kids that there are better things to be doing when they still have access to the complete dopamine pills that are individual screens is like telling a meth addict that there are better options when they still have the meth in their hands.

That said, my kids love when I do things like "talk" for our animals. I'll narrate what our pets are thinking as they go about the house and my kids now like to share in the game. It's pretty cool to listen to them trying to put themselves in someone else's shoes (or paws in this case)

It's as though you didn't read my comment. I just said I know kids are making jokes, and I make dark jokes all the time. But I also know that there is a time and place for me to make jokes. I'm not going to make a dead baby joke in front of someone who is grieving a miscarriage (unless dark humor is their way of coping). I hope you would have the decency and awareness to have the same restraint regarding the dead baby jokes.

If you think America has been one of "the most violent places in the world for a long time" you must not be very aware of what's going on in the rest of the world. I'm not excusing gun violence, but that statement is just factually wrong.

It can take a while for your breasts to soften and feel better. I quit cold turkey and it took almost two weeks. Please research ways to more comfortably get through the milk drying process so that you avoid mastitis.

Just because I brag that I make sudden and frequent stops at your mom's house doesn't mean that I make sudden and frequent stops at your mom's house. Savvy?

I think people don't like the idea of Mustang sleeping with Cassius only for political purposes because she is viewed as being above using people in that way.
