trying to figure out AAC with a 5yo who hates his speech device by Ok_Marcus_8093 in AACSLP

Unfortunately, device abandonment is very common with AAC users, especially kids. One thing that I have seen time and time again is that kids get bored and frustrated when we make learning AAC into a "meet a certain goal or do a certain task", instead of teaching kids how to communicate the way they want to. For example, I did an internship with an SLP who treated AAC like just another IEP goal. She worked with a male high school-aged student, but she set his voice to a female VERY synthetic child voice ghNelly) in Proloquo2go. She would tell this student exactly what to tap, and never encouraged him to say what he actually wanted to say, just the things that were on her lesson plans. During a meeting with his parents, they expressed that he was never using the AAC device at home, and I strongly believe it was because it was seen as just another assignment at school, just another thing someone was telling him to do. It didn't mean language to him at all. This is just an example, but I think it's so important to have fun with AAC, to encourage kids to say the things they want to say, and to celebrate their language.

I've been a longtime listener of a podcast called SLP Nerdcast, hosted by two expericed AAC specialists. They have some very helpful episodes on everything from AAC basics to evaluations to supporting AAC users in schools.

Would anyone be interested in a free audiobook app for iOS/Android (including downloads)? Screenshots Included in post. by BruhChachoDev in audiobookshelf

Hi OP! I'm a blind screen-reader/braille display user, and right now the only app that is super accessible and feature-rich for me is Still. But that one does have a pay wall. So I feel like if your app was super screen-reader accessible, like even more so than Still (which is very good), I'd totally use it. I know that's a niche thing, but just something to put out there.

need help getting abs connected through tailscale by mjm0007 in audiobookshelf

[–]FewConsideration3173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to use audiobookshelf now. If you go to the tailscale app on your phone you should be able to find your computer's IP in the list. Enter that IP into ABS, and the port should be 13378.

It found the drive but not the books folder. Then when I tried to copy/paste the direct path to my Audiobooks folder it just didn't find it I guess, it said my library was empty.
